Dinesh Karthik & Virat Kohli

@ Leggie: Yeah that might be the batting lineup most likely for our World Cup (since its just a year remaining, we might not see anymore new faces like Pandey, Pujara, Rahane, etc in the lineup). If one of these guys lose form, it will be Dravid who will be our backup (he should actually be a regular but they will use him as backup). Yuvi, Raina and Sehwag can manage 5th bowler duties (thats why the long bowling spells these days for Yuvi:laugh).

I'm quite sick of Raina tbh. He seems to be too much of a floater, perhaps even somewhat of a specialist fielder. He came good on the ridiculously flat tracks they had during the Asia cup against some minnow bowling and is doing it again with the 51 or so he got in the last match.

I may sound biased but I think Karthik would be a better option for our middle order. Good fielder too and can give Dhoni a rest with the gloves (So he can try and bowl a few of those medium pacers!;))

Dude, Karthik is nowhere near as good as Raina. He's proven that time and again.

I think Kohli will take Jadeja place in the side, hence the the batting line-up will look something like this in the World Cup IMO:

1) Virender Sehwag
2) Sachin Tendulkar
3) Gautam Gambhir
4) MS Dhoni C+
5) Yuvraj Singh
6) Virat Kohli
7) Suresh Raina

... Bowlers.

Nice line-up. But baba, the problem is that Rav provides us an incredible spinning option. He is a better bowler than Yuvi who can take care of the 6th bowler's job, in place of say, Viru Sehwag. Sach has stopped bowling and Kohli cannot bowl. Raina has a long way to go if he wants to match Jaddu's bowling.

So I say, No.7 = Rav.

Anyways Raina's talent would be wasted at No.7.

India needs a Dilshan. Someone who is an aggressive batter, handly bowler, awesome fielder and a decent keeper as well. If KKD works on his bowling a bit, Rav could be out of favor.

As for Dhoni, yes, who wouldn't like to him bowl at 130ks, which makes him a faster bowler than Stuart Clark :laugh

:dohRaina is much better than Karthik. Look at his record since the asia cup , it is pretty impressive and Raina is a better fielder then Karthik

@ Rohit: Raina cant even be compared as a fielder to both Karthik and Dhoni (if Dhoni fields with Karthik keeping). Raina is India's best fielder now. And with our fielding hitting pathetic levels, we need to retain our best fielders who contribute well enough with the bat. And so far, Raina has been contributing with the bat. Maybe he will work on that short pitched stuff, but so far he has been doing so fine. And with the WC in the subcontinent, Raina has no danger of being upstaged unless we have an exceptional batsman and an equally good fielder coming up.

In fact its time to groom Saha as the backup keeper.

I don't see Saha have anywhere near the versatility that Karthik offers. Karthik can bat in literally every slot, can play an aggressive innings and a calm one too. He's proven his mettle in the games highest form and offers much in the field as well. Why drop him as reserve keeper? Makes no sense to me.

He's really not as good as you're making him out to be. Every time I've seen Karthik keep behind the stumps, he's made obvious mistakes and I swear he tries to make catches and stumpings seem harder than they actually are. So what if he can bat just about in every slot? At International level, most players should and are able to do that. Also what has he proved his mettle in? He's played 6 matches opening and averages 28, nothing to boast about. He's played 4 matches at No.3 and averages an awesome 4.5. His averages lower down are decent but are greatly helped by Not outs.

Also his OD record is nothing to boast about, an average of 28 from 79 innings is actually quite crap. I'd much rather have Saha, he's got a better record (so far). An average of 43 from 29 innings.

Stop bumming off him.

Because he has under-performed in most of the games he has played? Isn't that sense enough for you? He might have bags of potential, but he has failed to utilize it thus far, and so, he needs to be dropped; simple as that.

And as for Saha, whatever you wrote there to describe Karthik, all of them fit with Saha as well. Can bat in every slot, can play a controlled innings, and an aggressive one too as per requirement, and is a terrific keeper. Why should he be denied a chance then? Why should we continue with an underperformer then, when we have such a jewel in our domestic circuit? Makes no sense to me.

With Karthik, the case of "show off" is a lot more. Making things harder for himself and the team. He might be athletic and a great diver and all that, but when the work to be done is easy, do it the easy way. He doesnt have patience. When a stumping chance, he is so eager to whip the stumps off that he doesnt think that he has to get good control of the ball in his hands before going for the whip. In that sense, Dhoni is far better. Simple, uncomplicated but he is effective.

Karthik needs lot of work before he can make a case again.

Kohli is a great player in making and would fit in when Tendular retires(:crying)

Lol, Today's match has proven the OP totally wrong. Great performances from both Karthik and Kohli.

Good one for Karthik today. Hope he keeps these performances up.
