Does the future of English football involve the English?

As I said earlier,I believe that a country's league structure plays a cruicial role in their national team.Managers, tactics etc play a role as well, but the league structure plays a long term role imo.Thats why I believe teams like Italy,France,Germany etc are always in the hunt in major national competitions because not only their national team, but their youth, under 21's etc are always playing league games for their clubs on a regular basis.

I don't think that Chelsea are buying the title myself. Then again, they could probably clear the debt of a couple of third world countries. Roman Abramovich genuinely seems to enjoy the matches, and the team are really good at what they do.

This is going a little off topic but Chelsea have the advantage that they pretty much can get their first choice player, most other clubs have to settle for a second or third choice buy.

Nah, it was more thier national diving team having a bigger influence than their league structure.

they shouldnt have went through against australia, blatant dive

and the league structure, a corrupt league structure with match fixing? not an ideal setting to say the least

basically i think its important that english youngsters are brought through, and time (and money) should be spent on trying to bring english youngsters through, but if they aren't good enough, thereis nothing wrong with going abroad for talent

I doubt it because there league system was totally screwed with matchfixing. More down the technically brilliant player who have played well together.

The reason England will have a poor team is down to poor coaching and a woeful youth setup in England. If the Fa pull thier finger out and improve it, we may have a chance.

Personally I don't agree with limits on players. If you start heading down that route then you are limiting the market, and in turn will reduce the quality of football on show.

If everyone has to have for example 5 English players in their team, the best 5-15 would be spread out between the top four clubs, and the rest would all be average players. As was mentioned, if the players are good enough they will make it. To be honest it won't happen as it goes against just about every thing the EU and most of the employment laws stand for.

As Whitey says, if the coaching and youth setup was better then more players would make the grade, but it's no good trying to encourage mediocrity.

Actually a lot of good young English players are in the lower teams. Take Ashley Young, Gareth Bale (Real Madrid are posied to make a 7Mn bid for him, as reported!), Theo Walcott (another 7 Mn move!) to name a few. And there are other good players in the top flight like Agbonlahor, Luke Moore, Tom Huddlestone, Liam Rosenior, Micah Richards. These players are not getting their due recognition. The big 4 (as they claim!) are ready to look at talent like Fran Merida, Denilson, Obi Mikel, Goran Slavkovski rather than these youngsters. And if they forge a good name they buy them out for obscenely high sums. 18 Mn pounds for Micah Richards and 7 Mn for Bale, come on I say! Its high time the clubs start looking at youngsters from England rather than some unknown GonZalo or Fernando. And any one heard of Antonio Barragan? :p

Bale is being linked with Liverpool too (but then isnt just about everyone at the moment).
