What is Domestic Premier League?
The Domestic Premier League (DPL) is a professional league for 50 overs cricket championship run and managed by Prats. It is initiated by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The reason for this league is to make International teams aware of the domestic talent they have and domestic players will get a fair chance to display their abilities. It is currently contested by five teams namely Deadly Tornadoes, Samurai Blazers, Extreme Dragons, Silent Sonics, Razzle Dazzlers which are not based on particular nation or region but are randomly named teams, consisting of DOMESTIC players from around the world, except the Associate Nations which have refused to join the league due to their hectic cricket schedule.
Player Eligibility
ICC has clearly mentioned the criteria for stating a player as DOMESTIC player. The player from any major (Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan) nations who has not played a SINGLE INTERNATIONAL game or has played LESS THAN or EQUAL TO 30 international matches (ODIs + TESTS + T20Is). The first season of the league will be held in England as England Cricket Board (ECB) has given permission to ICC for the same.
Player Selection Process & Restrictions
The players selection method in quite simple, clear and not at all time consuming. The team players will be selected by Draft which would consist of eight rounds. In each round, team needs to sign two players. International Cricket Council (ICC) has has not given approval for Trading Window so Trading system would not be here. The team composition, managers selection and lineup rules are :
- Minimum and Maximum squad strength of 15 players plus one coach.
- No more than 4 domestic players from one nation in the squad is allowed and minimum of 1 domestic player from each of the major countries.
- Each player from the squad must play at-least a single game in the tournament.
- No specific 'Players list' has been decided. Therefore, the team managers need to put in some effort for finding good players.
- Since, managers have got some work to do for players selection, ICC is looking for some experienced and active managers. No first-come first-serve system.
- The maximum time allotted for posting lineups is 24. After that, ICC will go with random lineup.
- 'Injured players' list will be posted after every round. The players playing 'hard innings' are more prone to injuries.
- Not only OD but FC performances of domestic players will be considered, which will widen the player selection process.
- Retired players are allowed.
- No more than 4 domestic players from one nation in the squad is allowed and minimum of 1 domestic player from each of the major countries.
