Don Bradman Cricket 14 - first impressions thread

Just received my PS3 copy... very much excited :cheers:D thanks Ross

Just scored my first run from an overthrow. Blocked one, and the bowler ran down and picked it up, turned and threw at the non-strikers end and missed the stumps so I ran a single while long on had to field it.

----------

Bugger. Same thing happened again and this time runout by the long off fielder with a direct hit. Highest score with an individual batsman by miles too, set on 84 and eyeing up a first century. Damn this game! Haha.

After usually electing to bowl first and chase, I decided to bat first in an online T10 game.. and was rewarded with my biggest score by a mile, 193/3. Warner made 73 off 28, Finch 62 off 17, and Watson 47 off 13. Opponent was gracious enough not to quit while I was batting, but gave up after being 43/8 after 6 overs.

Hi Ross :)

Firstly a Big thanks to you for making the "most realistic" Cricket game ever... I never played a cricket for more than two hours and I was playing this game for 8 hours non-stop yesterday, hooked to it,,

Gameplay is King and you proved it, my only request please make a sequel, we will definitely support you ....:thumbs

ok this is probably the best place (I'm assuming) to post suggestions for changes, etc? so here goes:

1. correct the lazy batsman issue (cancel run, batsman will stroll lazily back to the crease as non-striker and will usually get run out)
2. please please do something about being out of your crease after a bowl is bowled...I watched 12 balls in a row (from the non strikers end) where the bowler bowls, ball is blocked, bowler picks up and throws down my stumps at the non striker end...12 times, I'm back behind the crease each time, and he doesn't miss the stumps. Its annoying and totally unrealistic. How many times have we seen this IRL??
3. I dunno, maybe its just me, but why does a leg glance result in the batsman moving a foot to the right?? I've been bowled so many times because a ball was heading for leg stump, I try and leg glance (LAS - back, RAS - down/left) and my player moves a foot to the right such that I'm to the right of the off stump!
4. There is a problem in the animation where if you block a ball and THEN press cancel run, your player will actually jump OUT of his crease (to be run out). Thats a bit silly unfortunately.

Are you sure this is happening after you installed the first patch on ps3? After the patch, I see that the non-striker is staying in his crease itself unless you press the run button.

Scratch thhat.....they still go out of their crease

yep. Remember this only occurs (for me it seems) when:

1. I'm the non-striker
2. I call for a run
3. I realise the run isn't going to happen and hit cancel after running 5m
4. My batsman then returns to the crease WALKING and no matter what I do (hitting R2 or Triangle) he WILL NOT slide his bat or dive or run back to the crease.

If I'm at the middle of the crease, he will return and will spring/extend/dive, but not just 5m out of the crease. I keep doing it time and again, and this is post patch in career mode.

Bowling in career in Pro difficulty is a piece of cake... I average under 10 in both FC and OD formats... What is like bowling in Veteran or Legend difficulty? Will the averages be more realistic in it? Say for a great bowler 23 or so?

Played 2 career games on legend mode

Took 1-85 in first class game and 1-32 in 50 over game

It's tough but made worse by my fast bowler bowling 70mph after 4 overs

The more of this game i play the more it seems to become an error riddled mess. Quality fundamentals ruined by horrendous ai and frustrating glitches.not sure if i have the patience to wait for later patches

Getting pretty proficient at hitting the ball through square leg and point now. Just a little quick flick of the RAS seems to do the trick most of the time. Lovely feeling.:)

I've been playing the career mode as a batting allrounder. After scratching around and making a few single digit scores, I slowly started to break into double figures. I just scored my 1st career 50! So, so stoked, it feels like a real accomplishment! Love this game!

How do you hit the ball through point? Do share some tips. I can't hit square off the wkt on the off side at all even if AI leaves a huge gap in that region.

Early in my innings point/third man is the only real gap. I have got the square/late cut down now but sadly it's really affected my legside play, missing easy hooks/legside glances :(

Satisfying though i got a T20 50 by smashing through point/third man, they plugged the gap by moving long off, i started driving there, they blocked that with mid on, i got my fours there... Into the 40s before they blocked off my easy boundaries completely, got to 50 off like 20 balls, sadly out shortly after for 51.
