First they said game will be here 2013 second he said he let us end of nov when we will have game wake up son
He never lied. This is exactly what Ross thought would happen. He had every reason to believe it would release in 2013. Maybe there is something else to take out of this, but they aren't liars. I also can't understand the bit in bold.

Lee's point was more about managing expectations and he's spot on. Both AC13 and Big Ant have left a lot to be desired on that front. When folks have been led to believe the game will definitely be out in 2013 and mid december you come out and state the release has been pushed back to 2014 you are bound to get some criticism.

I think there's been some expectation management going on since the start of the month. Both by Ross and the more sensible voices in this thread.
I would be surprised if anyone was surprised by the not 2013 announcement.

i think the only thing ross should have done differently, was never to have made the statement of "no chance out game will be next year, none, nil, nada." i am guessing that came out because he was expecting ashes 13 to be cancelled, but until that had been confirmed the statement was overly bullish, maybe even reckless.

whether it was due to retailers, or was always their strategy, it's been clear since october that the plan seemed to be a december release, waiting to see if ashes would move in november. that raised the possibility of ashes releasing. now nobody could have imagined what a shambles that ended upbeing, but ross did expect it to "kill the market", and simply if that released a 2013 release became very unlikely for DBC. i'm not here to rehash old arguments, say i told you so or even be "right for the wrong reasons", but it was fairly clear to all but the most blinkered - who have suddenly 180'd and are now apparently the sensible voices (come off it). i still expected to see DBC in 2013 however, simply because i didn't expect ashes to release, but there was obviously a chance it might not make 2013.

fair play to Ross, we've seen a lot of DBC in the press etc. recently and it's clear he tried to get it out in 2013. not being based in Aus i'm particularly impressed that he is going for a simultaneous worldwide release when it seems he could have released in Aus/NZ at least now. i think the nets is a great gesture, and just hope my PC is up to it.

bottom line, it's disappointing we won't see it for a while. one would think feb/march. but it's gonna be a good game, i'm fairly confident of that. and if the delay increases the profitability and increases the likelihood of (and raises the quality of) a sequel, it'll end up being a positive.

I can't wait for the Nets beta to be pre-packaged on the streets of Delhi into DVD's emblazoned with terrible "Sachin Tendulkar Net Practice 2014" photoshop...

Please post them when you find them.

the position has changed. it's changed several times. to be fair, most if not all times ross has been very quick not only explain that it has changed, but why.

may not make the changes less frustrating, but it does mean they're not lies.

lies are stuff like "we have had a good week bug-fixing and have put the technology problems behind us" or "we have all that and more" or "i've not slept with your mum".

Yeah, lets be clear as English allows on this... Nobody has lied.

For some reason I laughed more than would be normal at that last bit.

I really can't remember if this is true, but I think Ross mentioned many months ago now that the game would likely make a loss, but it was something they were prepared for, for the first iteration, as they looked to build a franchise. If correct, does this still hold true?

Not gonna happen. If they are willing to pirate a game to save money, no way in hell they pay for nets. Plus they will need to buy a controller :D

Hang on a minute. Didn't that petition mean that Ross would implement keyboard support to stop him being a racist seahorse?

At least on this side of the forum anyway...

Spot on! There's a difference in mismanaging expectations and outright lying.

yes, i think that's what he said.

he also said - or at least agreed my speculation - that the first one also acts almost like advertising for the next ones, building reputation etc. so the marketing budget etc. is proportionately higher for the first than the others.

with the exception of the "no chance" comment, i am not sure he particularly mismanaged expectations either. i think everyone here at different times have read into things he's said whatever we wanted to.

a single post will lead to some of us thinking the game is out next week, others thinking it's delayed for 3 months. i've been as guilty of that as anyone. in those circumstances he can't really win.

Before we get too far, Ross wasn't "lying" either... Unless it's a 79c wet dream...

I'm wondering whether this pushes back DBC15 into 2015 and so on. Will be interesting to see what the knock on effect is on subsequent iterations. Maybe we won't see similarities to FIFA etc. and subsequent titles will contain the year of release as opposed to being pre-dated.

They might do it every two years like EA did it. There is probably less demand for an annual cricket game. Big Ant also released RLL2 two years after RLL.

Honestly speaking I am bit disappointed for not getting my hands on DBC this year. But still it is understandable how much pressure Ross and Co. are in. Thanks for the nets which will keep our fingers warm :p and we will be patiently waiting for the game.

if Aus v SA wasn't in feb/march, i'd be highly concerned that it would mean a longer delay, like this time next year for another hit at christmas plus pre-world cup. but it think the Aus v SA will keep cricket having a good profile in those markets. inevitably you're gonna lose some casual interest in england, but actually if we get the stuffing we look like getting, a team rebuilding possibly without pietersen, prior, anderson and swann will probably keep english cricket in the news throughout the west indies tour.

inevitably around late nov this year was always going to be the best time, now it's about next best / least-bad.

but i really have had enough of playing game-dev tycoon and second-guessing dates. i just want nets!
