An early morning wake up call was sent to my bedroom as im appearing on Triple M?s the Cage which is a breakfast radio show. Looks like another opportunity not just to let the cricketing world know about me but also the good people of the general public.

The Cage: It?s our privilege to welcome Victorian Bushranger Jesse Slatter to the show. How are you Slats?

Slatter: Yeah great guys it?s good to be on the show

The Cage: Has the feeling sunk in from the Gabba yet?

Slatter: Yeah well we?ve got the points don?t we and that?s all that matters

The Cage: Talk us through what you were thinking when Cameron White gave you the ball for those final overs

Slatter: I guess I wasn?t really sure why he did it at first. We went into the game a pace bowler short and I reckon he had no other option he just wanted me to think I was the best man for the job.

The Cage: (Laughs) Well you defiantly proved you were in the end.

Slatter: One day crickets a bit like that. Sometimes it?s just your day you know?

The Cage: That?s right Slats. Now talk us through that last over

Slatter: Ok well after getting a wicket first ball I was thinking we would just cruise home and looking back I probably underestimated Mitch Johnson?s ability with the bat. He hit a few nice shots to the boundary, which made me start to worry. After he missed that full toss I bowled second last ball I knew we were going to win and in the end Whitey had the ball over the bails and we?d won by a run.

The Cage: It was a great match Slats and one that had everything is this the sort of thing we should get used to seeing from you throughout your career and if it is how far can you go?

Slatter: I wouldn?t go making any bold statements just yet I?ve still only played a handful of games but I?d defiantly like to play for Australia one day.

The Cage: Directing our attention away from the domestic competition now. What?s your take on the current state of international cricket. Are the Australian?s as far in front as everyone thinks or is the gap narrowing?

Slatter: That?s a tough one?. I think that at home Australia are as close to unbeatable as you will get but as you say the gap is narrowing and the next breed of Australian cricketers will need to come through. I reckon our domestic talent is sufficient enough to keep Australia at the top of world cricket for years to come.

The Cage: What about technology in the game. Is it being taken to far these day?s after all everybody?s human and even umpires make mistakes.

Slatter: You can always argue that we need more technology in the game and it?s a valid point but at the end of the day I think you need to leave it up to the umpires on the park. Technology will always have its place in the game but for the main part it?s umpires that control what happens on field.

The Cage: And just one final question Slats. For all the other young kid?s out there aspiring to play for their state what?s your secret for reaching domestic cricket so early in your career.

Slatter: There?s no secret boys it?s just a lot of hard work. There?s no short cut to the top and if you put in the time you will get the results in the end.

The Cage: Well Slats we hope to be seeing your name up in lights in the future good luck with your season and all the best.

Slatter: Thanks a lot guys thanks for having me on the show.

great interview and i love the layout and presentation.
hopefully my career story can live up to this fantastic one :)
keep it up

This afternoon the team headed down to the local pool here in Adelaide where we unfortunately ran into Dizzy Gillespie who was leading his own recovery session down by the pool. The Australian squad is close to being announced and it is doubtful that Dizzy will face up against us in the Pura Cup match but Shaun Tait is tipped to. Diz was keen to let us know how much talent was in the Redbacks side but we quickly dismissed his comments as idiotic and biased. No way are the Redbacks a chance to win anything this season in my view.

The session from our point of view was very important as the boys are still getting over a few niggles from the ING Cup game that finished just the other day. Fronting up for the 4 day game will be a big challenge for the team but one im sure we can get over with the help of a few ice baths after stumps.

A great ground but a terrible state in my opinion

The boys are looking forward to a good nights sleep tonight and then at the ground tomorrow bright and early for the match tomorrow, which should be a good game for us. Hopefully my first class scalp is on offer but more importantly some runs with the bat.

The Australian squad has been named for the 3 test series against the Sri Lankans and it looks like this.

This means that the ING Cup game between WA and Queensland is the last opportunity for the international players to have a hit before the squad joins together for the test series. The results look like this.

Going into Victoria?s match against South Australia the standings and stats look like this.

Pura Cup ? Game 2
Southern Rebacks Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
9th November 2006

It?s game on again in the Pura Cup this time between South Australia and Victoria Bushrangers. The home team will need to play very well to knock off the impressive looking Bushrangers in this game that will last 4 day?s. The plus for the Rebacks is that their opponents have just come off the back of an ING Cup game and will still be recovering.

Pitch Report

There has been a bit of rain around the last few days but we are gifted with clear skies today. The pitch has suffered as a result of being under covers and has a lot of green covering it. The seam bowlers will have something to work with throughout this match. It?s up to the captain to choose whether he wants to bowl and use to conditions or bat and weather the storm early on. We shouldn?t see to many big scores in this match that may see some rain around about day 3.

Weather Report

Day 1 - Fine, Hot
Day 2 ? Fine, Warm
Day 3 ? Overcast, Warm
Day 4 ? Fine, Warm

Coin Toss

Cameron White calls heads and win?s the toss

Cameron White ? ?Were going to bowl first mate. It looks like there?s some moisture around and we?ll be looking to cash in early and hopefully score a few runs when the pitch flattens out a bit.?

Darren Lehmann ? ?We were going to bat first so we wasted our time coming out here. The boys obviously have a good knowledge of tis ground and we have played here enough to know it usually flattens out pretty quickly. It looks worst then it should play so we are looking forward to getting out there and playing some good cricket.?

Southern Redbacks Line-up

A mistery why they aren?t performing as a team. With names like Lehamnn, Elliott, Deitz and Cosgrove in the batting order you would expert runs to come but they look like having a shocker of a season. The bowling stocks are based around slinger Shaun Tait and talented off spinner Dan Cullen. The smart money would be against them here.

Victorian Bushrangers Line-up

The Bushies have chosen to go with a select group of players so far this season having only 13 players being selected in both forms of the game. In form players in the top order should prove to much for the Redbacks as they also have a class bowling line-up with plenty of options to throw the ball to.

Do you have a lack of faith in Slats Cricket 60?

The inside word is that if Crosthwaite doesn't perform here he's out but dont say i told you. Why are you so keen to see him play?

I like to see a NSW player kick out a Victorian.

So Victoria are a one man team now? :)

I have faith in Slats but the SA batting and bowling line-ups are strong. I'm wondering if the Vics will be able to overcome names like Blewett, Rofe, Tait and Lehmann and Cosgrove.
