Thanks MWaugh and Gilchrist now that you say that Pilon probably wont ever play a game. Ever. Cricket 60 the Redbacks might have those names but the Victorians have names like Slatter. Enough said.
Pura Cup ? Game 2
Southern Rebacks Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
9th November 2006
Early wickets were the key for the Bushrangers and through Lewis and a handy run out that cost former Victorian Matthew Elliott his wicket the visiting side took the advantage early. Edges proved easy to get as Cosgrove and Deitz both gave catching practice before Cameron White turned to Slatter and said ?The decks a seamers paradise for ya Slats warm up mate.?
Slatter used to like nothing more then
watch Elliott make tons at the G but ever since
he threw away his career by moving to South Australia
i cant stand the *******

When the ball was thrown to Slats for his 3rd first class spell the Victorian?s had the edge over the Redbacks who had 4 batsman sitting in the shed and a slow run rate. The words from Cameron White?s mouth to his young gun where ?Ok Slats I think it?s time for your first wicket now. We?ve beat around the bush to long and now it?s time for you to deliver. The pitch will give you a bit so I?ll give you 4 slips.?
Darren Lehmann has been made to eat his words now after he said the wicket would flatten out at the toss but he couldn?t have been to much more wrong. With Lewis taking his second wicket in the over between the SACA?s are now well and truly behind the 8 ball.
Slatter?s maiden first class wicket was Cameron Borgas, which will live in his memory for as long as he lives. Even if he never takes another wicket in his life no one can take this achievement away from the youngster.
After 4 overs of line and length Slatter?s yet to concede a run off the bat and as a result is getting full support from his team but what will it be like when Slats has to bat on this pitch or even worse in the last innings?
After 6 successful overs Whitey decided that?s enough I guess he wanted to clean up the tail himself and add to his season wicket tally. Despite the sippers efforts to lower his average Mick Lewis stepped in and capped off with 5 for 32 in a brilliant spell of fast bowling. Mick is in my opinion a champion at first class level but just doesn?t have what it takes at international level where the pressure is always on.
We?ll see how hard or how easy the pitch is playing now as the Victorians come out after Tea on day 1 to start there reply to the modest Redbacks total. Will Slatter be required tonight or will the Victorian top order break the game open at such an early stage.

When Michael Klinger and Jason Arnberger took the field for the Victorians the visitors had the upper hand having already dismissed the Redbacks for a low first innings total. However it is no time to celebrate with an up and down pitch and slow outfield set to favour the Redbacks much like it did when Victoria had the ball. No heroics for Arnberger being out for 7 but then the top order stood strong with partnerships between Klinger (29), Moss (36) and Hodge (74) all helping before the fourth wicket fell and it was time for Slatter to join Hussey yet again for his shift at work.
Dave Hussey is continuing his career best form at the moment with an unbeaten 63 on the board so far. Will this season make the Australian selectors take notice of the youngest Hussey? Victoria has a lead and only 4 wickets down now it?s time for Slatter t make his mark on this game that has been one sided to this point. Can a quick wicket here get the Redbacks back into the game by triggering a collapse?

When Brad Hodge finally got out and left Dave Hussey alone in the middle it was my turn to try and make the most of the situation. After picking up my helmet and gloves I walked to the door where Whitey gave me some final words of advice ?Don?t be home before tea Slats?.
I?ve always tried to get out to the middle quickly throughout my career as it helps to settle you down. If you get out there quickly you can take a little bit longer to get ready for your first ball rather then just strolling out there and having the fieldsman waiting for you, which makes you fell under fire without even starting. Hus gave me the warning ?It?s doing a bit so take your time getting in just like everyone else.?
I made up my mind to play straighter then usual, as the pitch wasn?t doing to many favors to batsman. I decided off side shots were going to be limited to really bad balls and I would just try and keep it in the V early on.
I should have lended my theory to Dav Hussey as it didn?t take him long to get out cover driving off the back foot. Cullen got the edge and Manou?s sharp piece of wicket keeping took care of the youngest Hussey. Looks like it?s really on me to score a few now being the last specialist batsman in.
