Pura Cup ? Game 2
Southern Redbacks Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
9th November 2006

Jason Arnberger and Michael Klinger set out to put the result beyond doubt at the Adelaide over and they went a long way towards doing it with a solid opening stand as Arnberger went onto score 49 whilst Klinger was the first to go for 27. Moss departed for 11 which forced your truly to put the pads on incase either Hodgey or Hus got out with just 7 runs to get. However the pair knocked off the runs easily for the bushrangers outright win and full points away from home.

Victoria Bushrangers Win By 7 Wickets

The Victorians are now just 3 days away from there next match at the MCG against the red hot Tasmanians who have been the suprise packet of the Domestic season so far. The up side for the Victorians is that theyw ill have a day extra to recover after wrapping this one up quickly today.

With the Pura Cup game against South Australia wrapping up early the team has today to venture around South Australia before the flight leaves for Melbourne tonight. Our next game is against a spirited Tasmanian Tigers side on Tuesday, which will probably prove to be our toughest match of the season so far in the ING Cup.

It was decided that the boys would head down to the local course in Adelaide for what would be called the Bushrangers 18 hole challenge to pass the time in a city that has nothing and also to see if we could win some money off eachother. The winner of which would be referred to as ?God? for the rest of the day and pocket the wagered amount of money, which was $50 each to play. The day was played out in good spirits until Mick Klinger lost his driver in the water trap having just played into the bunker on he 12th. The rest of the day took a turn for the worst as the cheater in all of us surfaced and we resorted to any method possible to make teammates miss shots.

Adam Crosthwaite chips onto the 16th green whilst Slatter (right) tries to put him off by insulting his mother

At the end of the day the boys laughed off the round all except for Dav Hussey who won and ensured we all pay him and call him ?the athlete? for the rest of the day which was a subtle way to rub in the fact that he was also scoring runs on the field whistle others were struggling.

Hus and his textbook swing on the way to victory in the Bushrangers 18 hole challenge

We found ourselves back at the hotel in the afternoon packing our bags for what was luckily the end of our stay in Adelaide I hope I don?t have to return here for a while because it does nothing for me. Unless I stop making runs and change my name to Matthew Elliott I will never come back to Adelaide for more then a cricket match.

The team has arrived at Adelaide airport for the flight back home tonight. It is likely to be a quiet flight back to civilization as the boys sleep off today game of golf.

Our next game against the Tasmanian Tigers will be tough as they feature names like past great Michael Bevan, Jamie Cox who for some reason never played for Australia, Travis Birt who is near the top of the most runs for the year and let?s not forget a strong bowling line-up featuring Wright and Hilfenhaus who has impressed is his short career so far. I can?t help but think that if I don?t get a big score soon I will be overlooked in the future.

Shipperd has been watching over
Slatter and wants him to aim for Australia A

During the flight Greg Shipperd came over and sat next to me and said ? I have heard that an Australia A tour to somewhere in the sub continent has been planned after the domestic season has finished. This would be a golden opportunity for you get your name out there as the future of Australian cricket. But it won?t happen by itself. You have to start spending a lot of time at the crease. I know you can do it Slats.?

We touched down in Melbourne before I knew it and we now just have one day to get ready for our next match back home at the MCG.

With no other domestic games being played between the Victorian and Tasmania game it puts the home team at a disadvantage having to front up just 2 days after beating the Redbacks. The standings in the ING Cup so far look like this. It would appear that the Bushrangers and Tigers are very evenly matched for this game and it should be a cracker.

Not to many surprises about the in form batsman of the ING Cup with Jaques and other class batsman up the top however the wickets column brings a few mysteries as Michael Bevan is the leading wicket taker and infact most of the front line bowlers in the competition aren?t even in the top 10!

Today the side to play against Tasmania at the G was announced and it looks like this:

Klinger, Moss, Hodge, Rummans, Hussey, Slatter, White, Pilon, Denton, Lewis, Wise

Crossy was dropped on form

A few changes in the Bushrangers team as Adam Crosthwaite was pulled aside yesterday and told of the news that he was dropped because of poor form. Also missing out will be Shane Harwood who has a thigh strain and general soreness after an overload of cricket that has seen us have just 5 days rest between 3 games. Graeme Rummans is the other inclusion to the batting line-up which is a questionable decision having been picked in front of Nick Jewell who ever since injuring himself at the start of the season cant seem to get back in the side.

ING Cup ? Game 3
Victorian Bushrangers Vs Tasmania Tigers
The MCG, Melbourne
14th November 2006

A close contest awaits today at The MCG. It is an important game for both teams as the winning will go 2-1 and have there season very much alive and the loser will sit in second last place ahead of South Australia at 1-2 on the ING Cups standings. As we all know it?s only the top two teams that have a chance of winning this prestigious award and to do that a good start to the season is crucial.

The Pitch Report

This track will provide abit for everyone. The ball may move around in the early overs with these overcast sky's above us but it wont be impossible to bat on once the batsman get themselves in. The winning captain will have a lot to ponder on whether they bat or bowl first. It?s hard to know what a good total will be out here we?ll have to wait and see how the batsman start off.

The Coin Toss

Jamie Cox has won the toss

Jamie Cox ? ?We?ll have a bowl because I reckon it will do abit early on. It cant really hurt to much bowling first like it can batting as you can always adjust in your run chase where as if you bat and lose quick wickets your in a lot of trouble so we?ll see how our opening bowlers go and hopefully they can create some inroads.?

Cameron White
- ?I don?t mind batting first at all I think it?s always good to have runs on the board in one day games. This is a crucial game for both sides and we?ve got a few fresh faces in the side that hopefully lead us in the right direction. We?re looking forward to today?s game a lot having won out last 2 away from home.?

Tasmania Tigers Line-up

The tigers are in with a real chance today having just won the toss and having the bowling power to make serious impact on this game. Hilfenhaus will be the man to look out for early as well as Griffith and Wright and then the spin of Doherty. Birt, Cox, Bevan, Di Venuto and Dighton will also provide attacking batting when the run chase is on.

Victorian Bushrangers Line-up

The Victorians have looked like good things in both forms of the game so far this season. They are in for a big test here at home today having to bat first on a pitch no one can really predict. A long batting order will work in their favour and the 4 seamers in the side will help when it comes time to defend their total.

Could you interview Crosthwaite you know, his reaction at being dropped?

Klinger and Moss set out for the Victorians to prove that bating wasn?t as hard as it was made out to be at the toss. A comfortable partnership dealt with the new ball and went past the 50 in good time until a communication breakdown lead to the run out of Klinger for 35. From then on the Bushrangers lost Hodge and Rummans both for 4 to send the dressing room into a state of silence. As if that weren?t bad enough the rock of the innings Jon Moss then got castled for 59 to ensure the collapse was on.

Jon Moss knew the sky was the limit but he couldn't capitolise

I made my way out of the dressing room just in time and thought to myself that 30 minutes ago the team was cruising and now the run rate is well down. This is my chance to prove to the critics that I can stand up when the chips are down and make a few runs.

Moss 59(75)
Hussey 0(1)*

Walking out of a well lighten dressing room and onto the dark and gloomy MCG is an eye opener and it usually takes a while to adjust to the conditions before a batsman can feel comfortable. A big opportunity is on offer today after the top order has failed and it is up to the rest to get the team through the 50 overs and rack up a defendable total.

Unusually Dave Hussey was out there waiting for me just like he has been in every domestic innings I have played and he offered me the words ?This is your day Slats. The whole team has faith in you but this is about showing everyone else what you can do.? I took a middle and leg guard and prepared to face my first ball from Ben Hilfenhaus who has come of age since the short time he has been at Tassie.

I began a solid start with a few quick single and pushes down the gorund. As long as I try to play mot of my shots off the front foot I will be fine as the ball is tending to keep low.

I was confident that there weren?t going to be to many worried faces in our dressing room as Dave Hussey has been batting like a freak lately and will usually get us out of this kind of situation with his eyes closed. That was until he came charging down the wicket and skied a Xavier Doherty spinner that just held up off the pitch and was to be caught by Kremerskothen. Now we are in trouble with Cameron White in and the run rate well below par. T?s pretty obvious that a big innings is needed from me now.

Even the umpires try to influence games these days and there is no doubt in my mind that this umpire took the trip down to the TAB before the game and put a few bucks on Tassie to beat Victoria because he has given an absolute shocker. The Bushrangers skipper Cameron White was hit above knee roll on the jump and was given out LBW to reduce Victoria to 6 down at home.

Slatter has tried his best to keep the score moving along as he takes the leading role with Nathan Pilon who is on debut. At this rate the Bushrangers will only reach a score of 200 so the importance of this partnership sticking together for at leased another 10 overs is vital. Slatter is just looking like settling into a good rhythm now and needs to keep scoring at a run a ball or over.

In the back of my mind is that Tasmania have still only used 4 bowlers and will need to bring in a part timer to finish off so that will be a chance for me and Nath to get the scoring going in the closing overs. We are aiming at around 220, which we think will be defendable on this slow and low pitch.

Victorian Bushrangers 6/140
Run Rate 4.00

35 overs

Slatter 9(15)*
Pilon 7(11)*

Wright 1/48
