Pura Cup ? Game 2
Southern Redbacks Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
9th November 2006

A dodgy deck tormented Slatter and his ability to play his strokes at Adelaide with the Victorians already in front. The young gun played and missed a number of times and who knows on another day he may have got an edge on one. Continuing to fight on Slatter used his powerful drive to full affect and has managed double figures at the Adelaide Oval but home many more can he get away with?

Meanwhile his skipper Cameron White is using his experience on green decks to make batting look easy. If the Redbacks are to stand a chance in this match they need one of these two batsmen to get out now. Only a major collapse would stop Victoria now as surely any lead over 100 would mean game over as long as the weather stays as it?s best.

Slatter hasn?t looked comfortable on this seamers pitch in Adelaide so far. The belief in the Redbacks camp is that it will only take one half decent ball to get rid of the inexperienced Victorian and that half decent ball came from Mark Cleary. A good length ball pitching just outside off darted back into Slats who was on the front foot attempting to drive. Slatter has his heart in his mouth as the umpire ponders his decision??.................

A lucky break for Slatter but how long can he keep scratching around like this?

Despite narrowly escaping a close LBW shout Slatter has soldiered on against a firing Redbacks attack. With the young Victorian now starting to play a few shots the Redbacks will start to worry as the lead drifts away from them. They desperately needs a few wickets in a row now.

In the end everyone gets out and after Slatter had looked like overcoming his demons Cleary finally got his man. A short of a length ball just left Slatter enough to catch the outside edge and one of the best catches of Matthew Elliott?s life followed. Just when you think you?ve gotten lucky and your in for a big day the odds catch up with you.

After Slatter departed Darren Lehmann brought himself on and cleaned up the tail within a hand full of overs. Picking up 3 for himself as the tail crumbled and Adam Crosthwaite again managed a low score. If it weren?t for his keeping he would fins himself in the Victorian 2nd XI pretty quickly. No the less the Redbacks have to salvage something from this innings but still have a massive task ahead of them. Can they get back in this match through there top order on a seamers wicket?

Victorian Bushrangers lead by 104 runs

Sounds good mate i reckon Slats is still trying to find his feet at first class level at the moment but there will be better days ahead.

Thanks Left Hander it has been a good seamers wicket so we'll see how we go with the ball. Cheers

The South Australians began there long road back through Deitz (21) and Elliott (43) who combined for a 60 runs partnership before Harwood made the breakthrough followed by Cosgrove (8) and Ferguson (6) out early which has the home team in real trouble. The departure of Matty Elliott had the celebrations started as Mossy knocked his castle over and the team (me) gave him a huge send off.

On ya way ya dickhead wish you were still a Victorian now don?t ya. Tell ya story walking you idiot I?ll waive goodbye to ya on the victory plane back to Melbourne, A real state. Enjoy your stay in the basement of Domestic cricket mate.

Deep down Matty Elliott regrets leaving Victorian...You can tell

After Whitey and the boys restrained me and told me not to go that over the top again as it looked bad for the team I assured them that I was ok and nothing a few wickets couldn?t fix. Whitey must have taken the hint as he uttered the words ?Alright Slats now?s your chance. Your on next.?

Southern Redbacks 5/136
11:04pm - Day 3

45 overs

Borgas 12(34)*
Manou 14(33)*

Lewis 0/35

Moss 1/20
Wise 3/30
White 0/10
Hodge 0/0

Southern Redbacks lead by 32 runs

He's the next Bradman guys :p :D

Brilliant presentation. Seems I underestimated the Vics. Slats will pick up 3 wickets in his new spell.

Southern Rebacks Vs Victorian Bushrangers

Slatter takes the ball with what he is now calling his ?bunny? Cameron Borgas. That?s right if you get him out once he becomes the bunny. The game is headed in a clear path now and only some heroics from Borgas and Manou would chance the outcome of this match with so much time to play with. The bad news for the South Australian?s is that there is no sign of rain any time soon.

Slatter takes his second wicket at first class level with a bit of assistance from the pitch. How long will it be now before the Victorians are on a plane home with a convincing win in Adelaide?

With 5 overs in the bank Whitey decided that it was time for a change to knock over the final 4 wickets. Jon Moss did some of the dirty work picking up 4 wickets in the end but it was Allan Wise who did most of the damage ripping apart the middle order and leaving the Redbacks with little chance.

Victorian Bushrangers require 102 runs to win

The Bushrangers need just over 100 runs to win that shouldn?t require Slatter to bat. It would take some unbelievable bowling never seen before from Tait and co to stop the Victorians from taking the points here but that doesn?t look likely. The Bushrangers reply isn?t far away with a day and 2 sessions still to play.
