Victoria Bushrangers Depart Melbourne Airport
Thursday 12th October 2006

After a solid training session yesterday it?s time for us to board the plane for the longest plane trip in Domestic Cricket??.. Perth. The selectors and coach Greg Shipperd have picked a squad of 14 to make the trip which will allow us to pick an XI that are best suited to the conditions for tomorrows game.

The boys have been really positive about going into this game and the genuine belief is that we can come break out losing streak at the WACA and come back to Melbourne with the 4 points if we bat well on what is a slower then usual WACA pitch these days. Im feeling confident that I will be selected for this match which would mean Lloyd Mash would be the batsman to miss out should Nick Jewell be selected to bat at number 3. This would probably leave Andrew McDonald to carry the drinks if we decide to go into the match with the 3 pace bowlers, Cameron White and the two part timers Jon Moss and myself.

Finally we touched down in Perth after the long 4 hour flight and we?re rushed onto the coach to take us to the team hotel where we will spend the night before tomorrow?s game that will see me return to Domestic Cricket after what has been a long 12 months.

The squad for the Ford Ranger Cup Match against the Western Warriors is:

White (C), Crosthwaite (WK), Denton, Hussey, Klinger, Mash, Harwood, Jewell, Hodge, Lewis, McDonald, Moss, Wise, Slatter

we will spend the night before tomorrow?s game that will see me return to Domestic Cricket after what has been a long 12 months.

No need for net practice mate and yes the 1000 posts is a nice addition to add to the resume. Just to let everyone know im planning on having an Australia summer going as well but i can't be stuffed simulating a whole Champions Trophy so i just wont let any of the usual ODI players play in the Domestic league. The first Australian International series will be the Ashes on the.

Good to hear we will be watching the Ashes in this thread as well :D.

Also nice to see you selected against the Warriors :)

Good luck!

the Ashes in this thread, i dont wanna spoil anything but i reckon australia will win the first 3 tests and the other 2 they do some experimenting with Slats and others :)

Victorian Bushrangers Vs Western Australia Warriors
The WACA - 14th October 2006

Preview Match-ups

-------------------------------------------------
(VC) Jon Moss Vs Justin Langer (C)
-------------------------------------------------

The Australian Test match opening batsman returns to the domestic scene with the Australia ODI team in India for the Champions Trophy. He?ll be keen to score a few runs and get himself in form for the Ashes, which aren?t to far off. Jon Moss is an incredibly versatile cricketer with the ability to score quickly and hold up and end with the ball although the contest goes to the world-class batsman Langer.

Western Warriors: 1
Victorian Bushrangers: 0

-------------------------------------------------
Michael Klinger Vs Chris Rogers (VC)
-------------------------------------------------

The usual captain of the Warriors side Chris Rogers has been amassing runs for years and this year is expected to be no different. Klinger impressed with the bat last season but is not yet in the same class as the veteran Rogers.

Western Warriors: 2
Victorian Bushrangers: 0

-------------------------------------------------
Brad Hodge Vs Shaun Marsh
-------------------------------------------------

Hodge has drawn motivation from his axing from the Australian test side of late and is expected to start this season with a bang. He?s a talented right hand batsman who posses scoring shots all around the wicket and could spell trouble for the Warriors today if not removed early. Shaun Marsh has been there or there about for the last few seasons without actually delivering a mountain of runs that he is capable of scoring. This may be the last chance for Marsh to prove himself although this battle goes to Hodge on sheer weight of runs scored.

Western Warriors: 2
Victorian Bushrangers: 1

-------------------------------------------------
Dave Hussey Vs Marcus North
-------------------------------------------------

Both of these men like to score quickly and can cause problems for any bowling attack in Australia. They will both play key roles in their team?s success in the middle order this season as they will look to up the ante in the later overs as the need for a higher run rate arises. This is a very tough one to split with a lot depending on the game situation when they come out to bat so for not it?s a draw.

Western Warriors: 2.5
Victorian Bushrangers: 1.5

-------------------------------------------------
Luke Ronchi (WK) Vs Adam Crosthwaite (WK)
-------------------------------------------------

The battle of the keepers in this one is a tough contest with two very capable glove men. Ronchi has excelled very quickly to be the number one keeper in the WA team likewise with Crosthwaite who battled poor form last year and was dropped on a handful of occasions form the 4-day team. This contest goes to Ronchi because of his superior ability with the bat.

Western Warriors: 3.5
Victorian Bushrangers: 1.5

-------------------------------------------------
Cameron White (C) Vs Sean Ervine
-------------------------------------------------

The former Zimbabwe international does battle with the Victorian captain in the contest of the all rounders. Ervine will bowl in the middle overs and also add some hitting power to the middle order where as White will attack with his leg spin and can hold the bat as well as any other. The skipper wins this contest.

Western Warriors: 3.5
Victorian Bushrangers: 2.5

-------------------------------------------------
Mick Lewis Vs Brett Dorey
-------------------------------------------------

The final battle is that of the pace bowlers. Mick Lewis has been the spearhead for Victoria for years where as Dorey has just immerged in the last few seasons although he seems to have a bright future ahead. Two different types of bowlers with Lewis skidding on as opposed to Dorey whose height helps extract pace and bounce. Dorey wins this battle because he is potentially more dangerous.

Western Warriors: 4.5
Victorian Bushrangers: 2.5

So there you have it Western Australia are expected to take it out on paper and extend the Bushrangers drought of not being able to win at the WACA. Some interesting cricket is set to take place when the two teams do battle with a good start to the season crucial in such an even competition. Will it be the Warriors at home or the Bushrangers in an upset?

WOW the good old camparison between players is back :)
Looking forward to the first game back for Slats and hope he starts off with a good match.
Great stuff Short_Leg keep it goin mate :clap

You said the skipper wins, but I'm pretty sure you gave the points to Ervine anyway, yet more of your dislike for White? :p

As before, good story mate, nice effort.

Nice comparison of the players. Always loved that :)

I'd hate to say it but I think the Warriors will win because on paper they beat the Bushies by 2 points. Anyway good luck and play well :D
