I agree with Geoffrey Boycott there about the low and slow pitch. Prabir Mukherjee (the curator; old and unscrewed head guy) got into this tiff with Dhoni over the pitch and has prepared a low and slow pitch where batting will be very easy and where bowlers have to toil for wickets. One of today's wickets was a gift from Sehwag-Gambhir. If that didnt happen, India would have gone into lunch on no loss..... Dhoni wanted a turning pitch where the toss doesn't play a major role and where both teams have an equal chance. Mumbai offered that, England won despite losing the toss. And Dhoni inspite of losing that match asked again for a similar pitch.
In this issue, all respects to Dhoni for sticking to his stance of wanting a turning pitch. Prabir Mukherjee should just shove it up his a--. It seems he does this with Ganguly too when Ganguly was captain. BCCI should just throw this guy out... Here, actually Srinivasan should show his love for Dhoni's words and should get this Prabir guy chucked out.
Since when do batsman like it low and slow? They like it coming onto the bat and with nice and even bounce.
Indian batsmen have grown playing on slow, low wickets here; thats the type of wickets prepared here in the domestic FC games. No wonder the Indian batters would prefer batting on these tracks and those having some bounce on it.
That has to do with spin bowling. ICC has said a good test wicket starts with a little bit in it for the bowlers dry out becomes for batting on day 2 and 3 and start to crack and break up and bringing the turners into the match for day 4 and 5. They should start fining countries for starting on the day 4 of that criteria.
Considering that its Dhoni batting out there right now, I can't say that we will cross 300 here. I dont see the logic behind sending Zaheer Khan ahead of Ishant Sharma. Ishant is a much better bat than Zaheer (in his current form). Ishant has helped India win a test match with his bat once before (that Mohali test in 2008 where Laxman and Ishant took India to an unlikely victory). Zaheer these days just takes wild swipes at the ball.
If India can reach 350+, it would be decent. 400 and above would be good. But I expect them to be rolled out for 290 odd.
Again its foolish scheduling by the BCCI to start a test match in the middle of the week. Had it been on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you would have had that vintage Eden Gardens crowd. Unfortunately, this being a working day I don`t expect any more than 20k fans at the stadium.
The Indian tale has been another weak factor in the team, if they reach 400 and over we might have a match on our hands anything less they would be in with a huge 1st inns deficit.
