England In India - October 2011/12

Are Shastri and Gavaskar indulging in some fraudulent activities? Everytime they talk about a wicket falling, IT FALLS! Just when Shastri talked about the next batsman to come in if either of Dravid or Rahane falls, Dravid got out (precisely a ball later). Same way, Gavaskar just said that even if Tiwary gets out next ball, it shouldn't be held against him. And Tiwary was OUT NEXT BALL!!!!

Now you may be on to something...:spy

The thing is that if you get a whole week of bad weather at a given ground, they still might manage to play a Twenty20 due to D/L. If you subject Test matches to those conditions, you get draws. Why would you do that to the Test series for the sake of one dayers?

Sorry but that was a pointless game, they made sure they got a game and kept their ????? but it was not a LOI so it begs the question, what was the point? It constitutes a result but in no way, shape or form resembled a proper 50 OVERS match.

I said somewhere else, maybe in this thread, perhaps they need to put the ODIs before the Tests when it's summer and not SEPTEMBER. Is it a case of putting the cart before the donkeys? :D

India probably should have won, but England do seem to be better at the long and shortest versions of the game. I wonder if it is because they are capable of attacking, but not great at sustaining attacking cricket so get away with it in T20Is and it doesn't matter in Tests. And any failings with bowling is not exposed so much over 20-23 overs, over 10 overs I think India would have made more of our lesser bowlers.

What do you mean by lesser bowlers, the Ravi/Patels? Or do you mean that they are lesser than this Indian attack? Which has looked all tour as about as threatening as a British earthquake?

More of a T20, but still counts and we batted superbly. Bowling wasn't too bad, Dernbach was disappointing, but Bresnan came back well and Samit's only over was a bit naff, everything else was okay. Jimmy should have had another over or two.

Just saw the presentation of yesterday's match and Cook's confirmed in not naming a replacement for the injured Eoin Morgan. Surprising that he has so much confidence on Belowpara, inspite of his countless failures. A really useful bowler though.

The Indian team hasn't been this disgraced and embarrassed in years. A question to all the Indian fans, how is the media back home taking this??

There have no major reactions here, and I believe essentially, because the Anna-movement kept them busy enough to not worry about it. But now that the movement is no longer active, if India gets whitewashed in the ODI series, we can expect some furore.

How can you possibally blame Dhoni for failure of the tour? Like seriously, this has been problem from Indian fans that they always blame their captain when something bad happens. Did you see How Varun Aaron got smashed in last practice match? He was horrible and at the same time Vinay did bowl in T20 and also in 1st India which initially got washed out and he bowled well. His line and length was accurate most of the time. I know he didn't perform well today but that does not mean we blame Dhoni. Before giving to part timers, he gave overs to all our main 4 bowlers and they all were hit for more than 10 an over. And than he started giving it to part timers. He was changing field after almost every 2 balls but the pitch was heaven for batsman and our poor bowling has cost us the match. Dhoni has done nothing wrong.

When Dhoni gets all praise when India wins (even though he might not have contributed much to that victory), its but natural that he gets the blame for defeat. And here, his selection, usage of his bowlers and field placings beg lots of questions to be asked. Why Vinay Kumar? We all know Dhoni loves RP Singh. In this situation, RP would have been a better bet than Vinay Kumar or even Munaf Patel. Considering Vinay and Munaf, RP has a lot more pace and variation (being a left armer). More than RP, Varun Aaron would have been an even better bet with his pace and bounce. Is it a rule that someone who has stayed in the benches for a longer time gets first go (ie. Vinay vs Aaron)?

Dhoni's field placements were pretty shoddy most of the time. The pitch was good for batting but Dhoni's field placings was repeatedly criticised by the commentators for giving batsmen easy chances (I am no expert of field placings and I am basing this more on what I hear).

You seem to place a great deal of faith in Varun Aaron. Just because hes "quick" doesnt mean he will guarantee success. The English batsmen have faced quicker bowlers in the County, so I doubt hes going to make any sort of mark

yeah but I think he'll be better than vINAY

Vinay is medium pace but he has been very effective in IPL and also in some domestic tournaments. On the other side Varun Aaron does not have much experiance in IPL or even in Domestic cricket. Yes Varun is fast and would love to see him making debut because he is the future but Vinay has been taking wickets regularly in Domestic and that is why he is getting all this chance to show his ability to restrict batsman with his stump to stump line. But he did not bowl well enough in last game so I am guessing RP Singh or Varun might get a chance in next game in place of him, even though RP Singh looked totally out of form in Test but did do well in those practice matches.

I hope India can come back but if they want to come back in the series, they must need to improve their bowling and try to bat second.

I was just reading back from the beginning and I am so glad that England whitewashed India. It brought some overconfident and arrogant Indian fans down to Earth.

This. Right now, Vinay or Praveen or Munaf are being too easy to play off. Varun with his pace will cause some increased attention among English batsmen. Not bad trying him out.

Like this comment "Why cant there be different teams that may play differrent formats?", I shouldn't need to say anymore.

What Nasser said was not complimentary, but nor was it meant to be offensive to the degree some are interpreting it. I'm guessing the average Indian has said less complimentary things about the Indian team during this tour than Nasser, maybe not called them "donkeys" but I'm guessing it's ok for the goose but not the gander (outsider)

Who is this Aaron guy? I highly doubt he is express pace. Look how much they hype up Ishant but I have seen him play countless times and he does touch 89-90 every now and then but his average pace is about 84, I wouldn't call that express. Plus his line and length is atrocious as times. Pace and skill are a requirement for a good fast bowler.
