England In India - October 2011/12

(Dhoni deserves blame for that, he still does not want to try Aaron).
.

Do you want to be next captain? I think only that will stop you posting ???? like this.

Dhoni tried his level best IMO but our bowling apart from spinners is not that enjoyable. Munaf was pathetic today. Don't even know what to say anymore about India's performance in this series.

Good to see Jadeja getting Man of the match. He deserved it.

I can't see England winning the upcoming India tour if they continue playing spin like this.

Guess that's one of the toughest batting conditions England have experienced all tour - Spin, Spin, Spin!. Trott could do a lot better at #4, Bell at #3 is what I'd favor, but oh well. All in all, just a little bit annoyed with the way England handled the spinners, was just dreadful! Can't even imagine the winter tour of India if they're to continue playing spin like this. Cook's captaincy record for England now reads 8-2.

Oh I would love to be the next captain if they give me the chance.:p:lol Even Ganguly who has been in that spot as captain of India, it doesnt stop him from blaming Dhoni for doing certain things in a different way than what he has done. Its your opinion that Dhoni was not wrong.

Can't understand why Dhoni doesnt want to try Aaron. By the time he brings in Aaron, everybody would be gasping for breath to see if Aaron comes in and literally sweeps the world of its feet, and when he doesnt do it, all those India detractors and neutrals will say "what was all the hype about Aaron" and the selectors will dump him to the trash bin. Happy that they gave Rahane a chance, but it was more because of the continuous falling to injuries by our batsmen that gave Rahane a chance this series and he took it. Do we want a similar injury spree for Aaron also to get his chance?

Ah just saw it on ICC website,If India lose next match,They'll slip down tO 5th place.can't remember a team slipping down that low in a rush after winning the WC

I think they deserve it. They played poorly throughout the series. It would be a wake up call for them about how to prepare for your biggest series of the year.

India have lost 7 points from their rating this year and keep in mind that they never ranked 1st. Now, the sides ranked 2-5 are within 10 points of each other. The difference between these teams is not significant compared to their individual capacity to field a weaker or more experimental side, which they'd be a bit silly not to be doing at the moment. Any side that hits a losing streak will probably bottom out as the chance increases that they might play a higher ranked side and start to gain rating again. India could certainly drop to 5th, but they could also get back to 2nd next series.

Yeah they have a good chance to improve it as England will also go to india. The real test will be in Australia That series will be now next difficult journey.I know india perform better there but still Like they are playing right now i don't think India will Thrash Australia. But still will be a tight series

Assumed by the comments at cricinfo,Atm almost every nation is eager to beat England at their Home.Saw some Indians,Pakistanis and Sri Lankans fans talking like this as England coming to play them

india are short but Cook needs to work on tightening the noose. He let India go after the first 20 or so overs.

England do that, worry about who to bowl next and getting through 50 overs rather than turning the screw and not having to bowl 50 overs :mad Anderson should have been rested a few overs then come back, b*llocks to the death overs. And how many times is he not going to bowl out his overs!?!?!?!

England lack the killer instinct, that or they were told to make the game last longer, or they just don't have any brains whatsoever.

As for D/L, TMS were defending it but "better than what we've had before" is no justification of it's failings. Was it seven overs less to get 17 more runs?!!? And didn't they lose THREE power play overs as well, not that I imagine they were unhappy about that. Thing I hate most about D/L is evident when commentators pull out their copy and start quoting where England "need to be" should it rain as a "good guide as to how England are doing. That should not be issued, teams should not have a 'pacemaker' (in effect) to follow.

Aggers was also waffling about how D/L produces "fair games", how can he tell they are fair? Close doesn't mean fair, by my reckoning England could have won easily had the target been fair or we could both be wrong and the target might have been unfair on India. As it happens England nearly lost seven overs with no runs reduction, 17 is scoreable off one or two overs on a good day, it would be rare indeed to not score more than that off seven

They want a rain rule, you consider overs lost the middle overs and work out how many runs the chasing side would score on average if they didn't lose a wicket. 3.0-3.5 runs per over wouldn't have been unreasonable over those seven overs, 21-25 runs off the target. Truth is they should make sure of equal overs per side, FAR too often we get one side batting 50 or near enough and the chasing side chasing for under 33 overs. We've even had abandoned matches where one side bats 50 overs and the other a dozen or less. They must know if there is rain forecast, roughly when and how much. Doesn't take much rain to knock overs off matches, why do they PERSIST in trying to play 50 overs a side when it isn't likely to - unless it is faith in D/L which for me ruins games more than the rain should

Yeah D/L still gets me, but there are few other alternatives that the ICC is willing to try because D/L has now become as much a part of the ODI game as a customary ball change at 34 overs.

I have to say, Bopara rode to the rescue once again and everyone seems to be ignoring him. If it wasn't for his cool head and steady batting, England could have been in serious trouble. Plus he was the second highest run scorer in the England innings, scored only slightly slower than Kieswetter but looked a lot better doing it. As they say, class is permanent, and I know Bopara's time at the top is limited as Morgan will make a come back after the injury, the problem is I think Bopara is a better ODI asset than Trott (might sound blasphemous to some).

I'm not shocked at all by India's performance and why I should be? Will England be any good without their main bowlers (Anderson and Broad), their in form batsmen (Trott, Bell and Cook)? India are without their 3 excellent ODI batsman (Sachin, Sehwag and Gambhir) and most importantly without their most important bowler on whom they depend a lot (Zaheer). India is bound to play badly when most of their good players are injured. Do agree with the fact that they give a lot of importance to IPL but the fact at the end of the day is - we're WITHOUT our main players and the young Indian players have got the chance to play for their country. One cannot expect a young team to perform like world champions. Also, I'm talking about ODI's at the moment and not about tests. We were disastrous in test matches but in ODI's on this series we simply don't have a team on which we can have our hopes high on. In test matches too we were without Sehwag, who has been just too good with the bat for us in the top order along with Gambhir, who was on the tour but mostly injured. We were also without our main bowler, Zaheer. So, it can be said that we have been unlucky but that doesn't take away the fact that we've indeed played badly because we cannot depend on two to three cricketers to win us matches i.e. in test matches. In ODI's we're without 8 main players which can be disastrous for any team.

Your point is that the Indian team isn't playing well and the Australian tour will be difficult for us which it wont be, according to me. It's the fact, Australian team isn't at their best. The last 2 to 3 years have been very very poor for them. A few good performances on one tour (I'm talking about current Sri Lanka tour) does not mean that they are back in form. The point I'm making is that IF we go on the Australian tour with a full strengthened squad (Zaheer, Sehwag, Gambhir and Tendulkar playing) then I don't see the Australian tour as a danger for us.

We've been unlucky on this England tour, maybe not so much in tests as we had few of our good players playing but very much in ODI's. We've lost about how many players, 8(?) if I'm not wrong. Losing 8 players on a tour is such a exception, isn't it? :p This England tour is just a bonus for young lads to showcase their talents and show the selectors that hey I'm here and I deserve a place in the Indian squad on consistent basis and mostly all the young batsman who have been called on this tour have impressed but sadly not the bowlers.

Agreed with every single point but for these :p

In test matches too we were without Sehwag, who has been just too good with the bat for us

He's merely a flat track bully and England showed where he really stands as a test player in challenging conditions.

I wouldn't readily admit this if I were you. Australia are pretty much on the top of their game ATM against Sri Lanka, and I'm pretty sure they'll see even a full strength Indian side off with ease. Mind you, they really are a quality side now, something India isn't anymore.

LOL gotta feel for India, absolutely found out in every facet of the game. Such a poor side when they're taken out of their comfort zone. I just hope our groundsmen have the balls to produce decent wickets in the australian summer.

I actually feel sad for Sehwag. :p That guy came straight away into the Indian side in the 3rd test when we were already 2-0 down. Now, imagine a player who knows that he isn't considered a great player overseas but he needs to perform for his team but at the same time he's playing his first match of the tour. He needs to get settled according to the conditions but the problem is, the thing he is wondering about is, can he get his team off to a good start because till the third test match we had not go off to a good start. Isn't like we got off to one in the next 4 innings anyway. :p Plus the fact that Sehwag is someone who wants to take on the bowlers from ball one but he wasn't able to do so in the innings he played because the Indian team was always in pressure of performing as they were already 2-0 down and on the verge of losing the series. I feel that this tour wasn't a great one to judge Sehwag's form overseas.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, just one series isn't really enough to judge a team. Australian team at the moment isn't too good to be frank. Their opener Hugher, he's just way too overrated. Marsh played well in the current Australian innings but just one inning isn't enough to judge him. Clarke is a remarkable player and so is Hussey, they both are someone who India needs to watch out for, I admit this but then on other hand, a player like Ponting is struggling with his form. Not on this tour of Sri Lanka though but in the last few series he has played, he has struggled to make runs. Their bowling attack is full of young players and none of their bowlers is really experienced, same like India. They're struggling to find some decent spinners but the good thing is, the young pace bowlers they've got are nice and CAN be good in future but none of them according to me at the moment are someone who I can say is - oh my god this lad knows to bowl and will take the Indian batting apart. This was actually the case with English bowlers, frankly we knew how good they are even before the England tour had started we all knew that the English bowlers will be a big danger for us but I don't see the same with the Australian bowlers. Apart from Bollinger, who I rate very highly, the rest aren't good enough. Harris has been good in few matches but in few he has been very disappointing. The rest, Peter George, Siddle and all of the young players haven't really impressed me massively.

It was. I remember someone saying Sehwag in his 'first' match of the tour against Northamptonshire, got out for 8 to a guy who was no more than a player being experimented (trialed) by the Northants. That's a real shame tbh. :p

In Aussie conditions, one rarely needs a quality bowler of spin. Plus, everyone here knows the trio of Johnson, Harris & Copeland are much better on paper to the Indian trio of Zak (doubtful), Praveen & Ishant at least on Australian soil. ;)

I have to say, Bopara rode to the rescue once again and everyone seems to be ignoring him.

While you seem to be overrating him. :p

I would back Australia to beat India on the basis of the form as well as the Aussies being home. Its true that the ODIs dont reflect Indias best performances, they certainly have been without a number of their first choice players, despite most of them showcasing poor form in the TEST, are always handful in the ODIs.

In TESTs though India was very very poor team and were rightly fount out by the English.
