England In India - October 2011/12

Jadeja have improved a lot. Hope he prove his talent,
Raina is an effective batsmen and a part-time bowler who can take a quick wicket,
Virat Kohli is better than him in batting, Kohli is the best young batsman of India now.
Dhoni played an incredible innings today.
Ashwin and Yadav are well in ball, Ashwin is a good tail-ender now,
Praveen Kumar picked Kieswetter's wicket today as a bowling spearhead. Combinations with young guns are working for India now.

At the same time, his technique allows him to be a much better ODI player than someone like Alistair Cook (maybe not the best example since he's starting to score runs quickly in ODIs). In his conditions, he's amazing.

Can call him a specialist. You don't have to pick him when conditions are tough. So what ? Why does someone NEED to be good in all conditions ?

Yes. I think we might be moving towards an era where we have a specialist for specific conditions. Raina is a no-brainer pick for subcontinental conditions. He is a monster in these conditions. On slower wickets, he can cause serious damage. That in itself makes me a certainty in the ODI/T20 setup. But for wickets that have help for the faster bowlers, if India can have a backup batsman (a solid one) and rotate between him and Raina, we can do really well.

Can anyone seriously justify the selection of Vinay Kumar in Indian team. Amount of chances he's getting is baffling. Why Abu Nechim is not getting even a single chance? He a better bowler and a faster bowler. Consistently bowl around 140K.

Yeah that's what I don't like, all flash and no substance. Which as someone who has always grown up to value Test Cricket as the pinacle of the game, means that Raina is nothing but a hotshot with nothing but himself and the glory to think about. It's a shame, but I guess in a few years I will be a dying breed of cricket fan, left with only a couple of underground youtube videos provided by the fugitive Robelinda.

We'll all meet up in a dingy motel and watch 8 hours of Boycott grinding his way to 10. Meanwhile India will be celebrating the 100000000 sixth hit in the new 5 over cricket league with a nationwide firework display. Bowlers will actually be nothing but machines firing down length ball after length ball. It'll be called Cricketball.

@AngryPixel: How I wish I was!:D Dude, Raina is not that bad. He is not suited for tests and we know it. But he is an a very good ODI player.

Why go so far to Abu Nechim? We have Aaron sitting in the side not getting a game for the 6th consecutive time. Abu Nechim is a prospect surely for the future. Liked the way he bowled. But lets get this straight. Not all 140+ bowlers are good enough to be in the Indian side. Higher pace is always not equal to consistency. We need to see how skillful the bowler uses his pace along with his line and length.

bowling 140 doesn't mean that u will bowl well.. see what happened to england bowlers.

Vinay Kumar bowled well today and he was bowling 135-140 when it was required.

And about Abu Nechim he need to prove himself more in Domestic cricket.

A Team can't debut 2-3 players in same match because you don't know how they will go.

Varun Aaron will surely get his chance in Mohali or Mumbai pitch where There is more bounce and pace.

Come on Jeremy. you are just overreacting :p You are giving a opinion on a player based on how he plays in test matches. It the ODI series mate and he owns the ODI format. No matter how bad he's in Test, he will be a beast in ODIs.
But i dont think he'll get a chance in the next test series as Pujara and Yuvraj both will be fit by then.

Well Nechim showed in CLT20 that he's got control. He doesnt drift down the leg side as much as Vinay does.

Am I though? I firmly believe that if someone has the kind of hitting power and eye for ball that Raina clearly posseses than there is no reason he shouldn't be able to play Test Cricket, he clearly doesn't try, and that bugs me.

But you are right, I'll let it go now, maybe I'll live longer if I do. Might even get to see the birth of Cricketball haha

Regards pace bowlers. Against an England team with Cook and Trott at the top of the order and possibly even Bell, you're probably better off with a bunch of 130-135 bowlers on a slow pitch. They all score quicker off quicker bowlers as they are all timers rather than smashers.

in last 21 ODI matches in india,

India won - 18
lost - 2
Tied - 1

Both loses have been against SA...
