England In India - October 2011/12

But I was reading in the newspapers that the Mumbai track will assist spin. So they might go with a 2+2. Also chasing will be difficult it seems with the dew factor.

With This New Powerplay rule, i don't think any team will play without 3 pace bowlers.

So Aaron finallay gets a game. Would have rested Parthiv for Manoj Tiwary too.

Hope Rahul Sharma gets a game. Not sure about Aravind as he has to wait for a while..

2 back to back wickets. First Cook and then Craig. Cook looked baffled but that ball was bowled at 104.5 KPH from Ashwin and would have taken Cook by surprise for sure.

Anyways good comeback from India, mind you Craig looked dangerous :p

Lol how much will England struggle against spin? and what more they drop Swann the NO 1 ODI Spinner on this spinning track? :lol

He is no more no1 in ODI's has struggled throughout the last Indian series in England too.

Jadeja's ball to get rid of Bairstow was simply beautiful. Great flight, pitched on middle and leg, takes the outside of off...excellent left arm bowling.

This has got nothing to do with whether England care about ODI cricket or not, their skill on subcontinent pitches is lacking. Then again, I guess we always knew that.

If wickets at 18 with an economy rate below 4.5 is struggling, I'll take 5 struggling bowlers please.

England's problem isn't so much ability, or not caring, it's a lack of knowledge. The team we pick just isn't suited to playing ODI cricket in India and the likes. We get turning pitches, yet we play just one specialist spinner. We have middle order batsmen who are used to batting in the top 3 or 4 at County level, so don't know how to rebuild an innings and lead into a slog. For me, we have players who could do very well over in India, we just don't make the right decisions to play those players. Or I should add, some are unavailable too.

Well, Aaron's pace has been predictable. He's nippy, he touches 90 mph, but not utterly rapid. Umesh Yadav impressed me with his pace, I reckon he's quicker than Aaron.

Who would you rather play instead of the current batting line up ? Maybe one or two changes, perhaps Bell in for Kieswetter. I don't think England HAVE much better than Trott, Pietersen, Cook, Bopara and Patel.

Davies
Kieswetter
Trott
Pietersen/Bopara
Morgan
Buttler

I'd prefer that, personally.

Cook has been one of the best ODI batsmen for England this year and you wanna drop him ?! Morgan would've played if not for injury. So...what I'm trying to say is, I don't think there have been too many batting selection blunders for England. This, I feel, is pretty much their best batting line up bar Morgan for injury.

England are just missing the like of Eoin Morgan & Stuart Broad. I dont think they would have done anything better then this.

England have done superbly well to defend out the spinners in 2nd & 3rd ODI but again those were not turning tracks. Here back in Mumbai where its a turning track they struggled.

They need to stop criticizing Trott and let him bat through the innings his 98 helped England reach 299 it was scored of 116 deliveries that is 19.2 overs almost getting 5 runs an over. Personally for me Bring Bell in for Kieswetter and let Pietersen open with Cook.

Code:
42.6
Aaron to Meaker, no run, 140.6 kph, swings in towards leg stump and takes the pad
42.5
Aaron to Meaker, no run, 141.1 kph, gets bat on ball as he pushes back to the bowler
42.4
Aaron to Meaker, no run, 142.2 kph, this time he tries to pull a delivery from outside off through square leg and doesn't connect
42.3
Aaron to Meaker, no run, 145.7 kph, beaten! Pace and swing from Aaron as Meaker has a flat-footed poke outside off stump
42.2
Aaron to Meaker, no run, 144.1 kph, is greeted by a terrific yorker and Meaker only just manages to keep it out as he jabbed down. The ball then almost spun back towards leg stump
England's debutant, Stuart Meaker, makes his way in at No. 10. His success for Surrey has come in four-day cricket. And with the ball.
42.1
Aaron to Borthwick, OUT, 143.3 kph, gone! A cracking delivery and Aaron gets his first ODI wicket as he takes out Borthwick's off stump. It may have kept a fraction low but the batsman was caught on the back foot
SG Borthwick b Aaron 3 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 42.85

What an over!! Great over comes to end

Yes

That's what I said.

If I ever see the lineup that I suggested, I'll come and remind you that you were wrong and I was right. :)

My England lineup would be

Alastair Cook - Cool & Slow
Kevin Pietersen Bhaiyaa!! :p - Aggressive
Jonathan Trott - Cool & Calm
Ian Bell - Good player of Spin & can play aggressive inning later on
Eoin Morgan - When available
JM Bairstow - Aggressive wicket keeping talent
Tim Bresnan
Graeme Swann
Stuart Broad
James Anderson/Jade Dernbach/Graham Onions
James Anderson/Jade Dernbach/Graham Onions

Finn must be annoyed with Meaker batting ahead of him. :D

Bresnan showing that he's a more than capable Number 7 too. Take note Andy Flower and co.

I feel the pain...but personally I think the job starts with the first 4 bowlers and when I look through the scorecards, the England lads aren't doing the job. When was the last time England had anyone 3 for less than 50? Back vs SL when Anderson was in the team and the conditions were juicy. Edit: The India ODI at The Oval (3rd?) they did too, but they certainly haven't been regularly striking at the top. Get Raina and Dhoni in early and there might be a change.

Getting a good start is all well and good, but from let's say 50/3 after 12 overs you still need to maintain some pressure in the next 18 overs and England don't do that. They'd trundle through at 4.5 per over, set up 131/4 or 5 by the 30th over and double that is a decent total compared to what was 50/3 looking at 200-240 all out

BBC reckon England might be in the game as totals of 300 are rare in the *****wanke stadium. BUT England only have four bowlers so their batting needs to compensate - especially with no Swann and two inexperienced bowlers in the mix. I'm a little surprised Cook decided to bat first, but I think we'd have lost or will lose either way

Can't believe the Trott debate lives on, he scored two less runs than KP off 13 less balls.
