England In India - October 2011/12

Note England haven't lost a series in over two years either and are World Twenty20 Champions as well.

Well the rankings don't show them as number 1 but according to you they are flawed. If Twenty20 championship is your main point then we won it before England and plus we won the 2011 world cup which means we are still better contenders for number 1 position.

This was your post, it seems.

Haari posted about 2-0 win or something. I think that got on your nerves. His personal opinion. I don't want to talk about that. You brought in the 'away' thing. This is their 'home' series. So, no need to talk or base your arguments on 'how they performed away recently' Also, those were all (most maybe) ODIs. I mean, I think this was just the discussion about Test series just yet.

Doesn't matter if they are tests or ODIs. My important point was their performance on away pitches and how they cope with the picthes that they are not used to. My arguement started out as an attack to the overconfident that started with all the blabbering about how poor india is batting and how good Somerset is batting. I showed them why because they are batting on home pitch as India is batting on away pitch which they are not used to. This is where my "away" point came in.

Haven't lost test series in probably last 2 years and won the world cup 2011. This is enough to prove us number 1 but you jokers don't get it.

Well, if we take previous 2 years into consideration and leave Bangladesh as an opposition, both the teams have played 19 matches each and have won 9. England have lost 4 and India have lost 3 drawing 6 and 7 respectively. India played WI and NZ during this period, which are supposedly weaker 'test' teams. India managed only 1 win each against those two where you would expect them to do better. From my perspective, England are ahead on this.

well even if we have played weaker teams we still played them on their suitable picthes. Bangladesh is a weak team but WI aren't that weak. Their bowling attack can be vicious with their bowlers clocking mostly around 88 to 90 mph. They might be weak at batting but their bowling cannot be under estimated. But as the rankings show, we are not just ahead but we ARE the number 1 side.

I think NZ was a home series for us.

Also, we have won just one series away during this period, WI series if we leave BNG. We've drawn with SA and SL away from home.

England have won Ashes away from home (comprehensively) while managed a draw against SA away from home. Again, leaving out BNG.

Exactly, leave the noobs and just enjoy this series. Its cricket all together.look what is at stake this series..

A team will finally lose a series after few good years,No 1 ranking in test cricket some great cricketers playing their last series in England from India's point of view.

Can we not discuss and insult each other and just enjoy this series in healthy competetion

Note that India has not lost a series in nearly 3 years not 2 and they have also won 2011 WC and they have also won the very first T20 WC.

Second one is a good picture as Zaheer getting his bunny. But no words for the third picture. Nothing as good as seeing Broad getting hit for six 6s.

Don't forget that England during their last 2 years time period have played WI, Bangladesh and Pakistan which are counted as weaker sides currently. So I would never put England ahead on this, the are favorites just because they are playing at their home.

I said, 'without' BNG. India too has played BNG. They (Eng) haven't played against WI. In last two years, I mean. I'd never term Pak as 'weak', they're unpredictable.

On a serious point

Somerset v Indians, Taunton: Strauss shines as Somerset dominate in draw | Somerset v Indians, Taunton, 3rd day Report | Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

"It was no surprise that the home side didn't enforce the follow-on after India were bowled out and the Somerset opening pair again made comfortable progress. Zaheer Khan didn't take the field - and neither did Sachin Tendulkar - but the team manager insisted he was purely resting which seemed an odd decision after a wicketless first innings where Zaheer looked in far from peak form. And if he didn't want to show himself to Strauss again, that suggests the pressure has shifted.

The remaining India bowlers went through the motions and the pattern was similar to the first innings. Munaf Patel was steady but unthreatening while Sreesanth was expensive. Strauss dominated the scoring, although not quite in the fashion of the opening day as Suppiah rode on the confidence of his first-innings hundred."

I find it very odd Khan didn't take the field especially if as implied he bowled poorly in the first innings, just seems very odd to rest him especially after he didn't even play in the West Indies series.

Can't you guys just wait for another 3 days and see yourself which team is better? :facepalm

That would mean, this forum will be shut as we won't discuss anything. Also, I don't think one match or series will decide which team is better. Both the teams are equally good. This though is a test for Indian batsmen.

Yeah, that is strange. First inns might very well be the case of 'warming up'. He could have bowled in the 2nd inns to get some rhythm going before Lord's.

Warming up might not be proper. Maybe, as it was after some time he was taking the field.

What are you talking about? I am not coming up with those team by my own. England played WI 2 times in 2009 back to back. They lost one series and right after that, they won one against them. Here is your proof.

Personally, I will be gutted if England don't win this Test Match series but, if they do indeed fail to win, they will have drawn against/lost to a better team.

Whatever happens, it is worth remembering that we are all cricket fans and ought to endure victory and defeat with the same level of dignity.
