England in New Zealand

I fully expect this final test to be close,if the pitch is anything like the first test then england will have there work cut out trying for the win.

I think the kiwis should play two slow bowlers, that seemed to give england real problems in the first test.

i think they should go with southee and martin as the new bowl bowlers, with oram as the back up....vettori and patel will do there job in the spin department....let's just hope england can man up and start hitting these slow bowlers.

That's quite desperate if you are taking someone like Matthew Bell as back-up for the openers.

We honestly have no one else. No one else scores runs except Cumming and Papps at the top. Neither of them have showed they could make the step up. We have a few under 19's and some guys in their very early twenties who have just started opening in domestic, but they need more time to develop.

He has scored quite a lot of runs this season for Wellington, hasn't he? 722 in 8 innings at 103.14. Not sure how given his frankly awful form, Sidebottom makes him look like a No8/9 rather than opener.

New Zealand Domestic: Most Runs

What can you tell us about Neal Parlane, Hay (Averages over 50!) and Todd?

Greg Hay looks like a good prospect from his avearge, and he's only 23

suprised the selectors havent giving this kid a chance.

To be fair on the batsmen, New Zealand domestic scene doesn't translate to international duty. Southee is an exception because he's a bit like how Vettori got his selection, freakish.

I've heard Hay's name brandied around, it won't be long before he gets his chance. Ross Taylor is only 23 and he's the most accomplished of the top order in the Black Caps at the moment.

There's a kid from Canterbury by the name of Corey Anderson. He is a devastating batsman and he's only 17! Top scored for the U19s at the world cup and while Southee is carrying the side with his bowling, Anderson was doing the same with batting. Genuine all rounder.

They all bat around 3 or 4. Once Fleming retires and Sinclair is dropped we could probably bring a few of them into the squad. Todd is a left hander whilst the others are right handers. None of them really do any bowling so they're specialist batsmen. I'd love to have a crack at an England tour squad, but i'll see how the 3rd test goes. Myburgh is another one of the top run scorers. e just came here from SA. I think he needs to play a few more seasons or something before he can play for us.

More South Africans. Maybe that's the way to solve our batting woes. South African young white cricketers are flocking out of their country thanks to that quota crap they got.

We'll have them with open arms. England got a great deal with Pieterson.

By the way, MILLS IS OUT! ARGH!!!!!!!! PANIC!!!!!!!

Not only do we lose our top strike bowler, we lose swing, we lose a lower order batsman, and Southee is his replacement. Dear god are we handing this series to England now.

Taken from http://stuff.co.nz/4447292a1823.html

New Zealand pace bowler Kyle Mills is out of the third cricket test against England.

Mills failed to get through a fitness test on his injured knee at training in Napier today.

His enforced absence is a critical blow to the Black Caps in the deciding test at McLean Park starting on Saturday.

However, it will almost certainly also herald the opening chapter of a new star.

Mills will probably be replaced by teenager Tim Southee who will make his test debut.

There is considerable hype around Southee's potential, especially after he took 17 wickets at 6.64 at the Under 19 World Cup in Malaysia last month.

He went on to be named player of the tournament.

Well at last all NZ wanted is Mills getting injured..Although He was not in best of his forms..

Good god, are we just about to field our WORST ever opening seamers in the history of New Zealand test cricket...

Look at what we have left....

Revised BLACKCAPS squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Matthew Bell, Grant Elliot, Stephen Fleming, Mark Gillespie, Jamie How, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Mathew Sinclair, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

Tim Southee (debut)
Chris Martin
Gillespie
Patel
Vettori
Elliot (medium pace)
Oram

The possible combinations:

1. opening with C. Martin and Oram + 2 spinners + Gillespie = downside- Gillespie's Martin-esque batting technique, his liability in the field, his bowling stride that isn't conducive to swing. Upside, Gillespie has xp.

2. opening with C. Martin and Oram + 2 spinners (Patel and vettori) + Southee = downside- Southee's DEBUT. Upside- Southee bats better than Gillespie, swings the ball both ways, enthusiastic in the field like Broad.

3. opening with C. Martin and Oram + 1 spinner vettori + Gillespie + Southee = downside- we lose Patel. Leak runs. Upside- more options in seaming, but lack variety.

I think NZ will go with 3rd Combination.I think Southee definitely will play..
Don't know about Gillespie but Playing with 2 spinners doesn't make sense..Pus Patel is not that High rated who can do something in unfavorable spin conditions..

flemings last match coming up,he ll be sorely missed by the kiwis and i think he is retiring at the wrong time because NZC needs him.

I think theyll open up with martin and southee and have the two spinners, i also think grant elliot should play

my nz 11

1. How
2. Sinclair or Bell
3. Fleming
4. Taylor
5. Elliot
6. Oram
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. Southee
10. Patel
11. Martin

Great team there nz0003.

I hope they don't pick Gillespie. If they do, it's between Southee or Patel. And I want both of those guys in.

Yea even though i used to play at Gillespie's club i dont think hes up to test cricket.

Neither is Cumming or Papps we need some new openers bad!
