Yeh, realised that after i posted it. He made his name in Twenty20 though and is most well known for his twenty20 exploits, so he is somewhat a specialist.

Paul Collingwood (c)
Ravinder Bopara
Stuart Broad
Andrew Flintoff
James Kirtley
Darren Maddy
Kevin Pietersen
Matt Prior
Chris Schofield
Owais Shah
Ryan Sidebottom
Jeremy Snape
Vikram Solanki
Chris Tremlett
Luke Wright

I'm happy with that. Shame Nixon isn't in the squad though.

Why? Because he can play the reverse sweep. Remind you of Mal Loye per chance? ;) (who has a sweep shot as his main weapon)

Prior is the England keeper, we don't need/want/shouldn't have two keepers.

Good to see Kirtley in, he should be in our ODI squad too, but that's another story.

It does look pretty strong.

Alastair Cook is England's opener yet where is he in the squad? Just because Prior is England's keeper doesn't make him a shoe in for selection for the T20s. Nixon has done well in Twenty20 for Leicestershire and top scored with 36 against the Aussies in his only T20 international. So Nixon should be in the squad as a back up at the very least.

Prior is a very good attacking batsman. Why replace him with a 36 year old?

Prior is a better batsman than Nixon. I think his 3-4 months as England keeper has proved that.

This is a specialist twenty20 squad with specialist Twenty20 players. Prior isn't a T20 specialist, Nixon is. I don't disapprove of the Prior selection, but not taking Nixon along with him is a bad idea.

He bowled dreadfully in the T20 Cup Semi-Final? Got slapped around in his first over and didnt bowl again.

Good to see England are naming T20 specialists. Exactly what was needed. Although Mal Loye would have been someone I would choose

Personally, with that squad, I don't think we stand a cat in hells chance.

No kent players in the squad if im right? Rob Key and Denly Should of been there and some of the older players who are expirienced at test or ODI level eg Ramprakash, Butcher and players like that.

Neither does anybody else.
We all knoe Australia will win anyway.
Its not too bad as we have got rid of the nothing cricketers such as Mascerhas and Yardy.

It's not a specialist T20 squad, it's got some T20 specialists. But the likes of Colly, KP, Flintoff have played very little T20 cricket.

Btw, Prior has higher average and higher S/R, plus he can open.

I think Nixon as back up keeper would be ideal, if Prior falls over we haven't got a back up keeper (not even Strauss, etc) But he in no way would be picked over Prior.

The problem with these Twenty/20 'specialists' is how they will adapt. I don't mean Kirtley as he has performed in Internationals before, but is Wright's attacking batting and Snape's slow delivery going to unsettle any players in world cricket? I'm not so sure, but I agree that it is worth a go. Hopefully they won't all sink like Loye did.

Somehow I think "Twenty20 Specialist" is a euphemism for "Cant hack it at ODIs but we still like him" in England's case

eveyone would have been moaning if england had just picked the same squad as they did in the 2020s v west indies, and now theyve put alot of 2020 specialists people are saying england dont have a chance....
