England Team Discussion

Monty would probably do a similar job to Tredwell in terms of keeping an end tight, but there's the crap fielding, crap batting and madness to put up with if they go for him.

I'd imagine the starting eleven for the first test will be

Cook
Trott
Ballance
Bell
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Rashid
Jordan
Broad
Anderson

I'd be quite happy to see Wood or Plunkett in ahead of Broad, but that won't happen. Think he needs a rocket up his arse.

that's why they should pick Monty; he'd make the games so much more interesting!

e: also his very good and useful number 11 batting has saved two tests for England!!!!

Gotta feel lucky to average 57 with the ball one season and 41 the next in the cc then get a test call up for it :D.

Yeah fair enough. I just think he's the kind if guy that you'd want to take on tour with you knowing there's not much chance of getting a game. Think he'd be a good bloke and good tourist.

Rashid will be given first go. I really hope he does well, because with his batting and fielding ability, he has the potential to be such a good player.

I hope he does well because leg spin is cool and good and we need more of it.

I hope he does well just because

England.

That ton from Lyth couldn't be better timed. He might just have grabbed the number 2 spot off of Trott. Think I'm still edging towards Trott though.

I just heard on Sky Sports that Paul Downton has been axed as the MD of English cricket. Stage set for another KP comeback?

well Andrew Strauss is in the frame for the new Director of England Cricket role so not necessarily.

Personally I think the ECB should offer Nasser Hussain a King's ransom and get him in - i'd be sad to lose him from the commentary box but he is one of the best thinkers about cricket around in England. Strauss on the other hand I would be delighted to lose from the commentary box but he is just another bland, corporate, stats-obsessed conformist of the type that got English cricket into this mess in the first place.

Whitaker will be next. Downton going today makes me think we'll see Kevin Pietersen back in an England shirt by the end of this year. Whether you think that's a good thing or not is up to you.

With Saker gone and now Downton, things are looking up. Whittaker has to go asap, as should Moores.

I think whoever gets in as the new Director will affect the KP thing - if it is Strauss then it wouldn't look good for KP

Michael Vaughan is interested - he's already made it public that he would like the job. As pretty much the only England cricket captain to have ever successfully handled KP, if he does get it then that would be good news for him. If it's Strauss, though, you're right, it won't be very hopeful.

Isn't Andy Flower hanging around looking for a job.... :rolleyes? Sounds about right.
Flower has got a lovely job, in charge of all the coaches[DOUBLEPOST=1428528137][/DOUBLEPOST]

In an ideal world I'd prefer Hussain, but Vaughan would not be far behind at all.

We know what Strauss thinks of KP...
Hard to feel much sympathy for Downton here but I still reckon that a fish rots from the head and the head has been Giles Clarke for a long time. Downton may have been the button-man on KP but he was just following orders.

Make sure you read George Dobell on cricinfo. I kind of agree with him on the question of is the role actually necessary? Or the new replacement DoEC one?
