England Team Discussion

Tempted to stay up for this one seeing as it's such a big game.

1. Ali
2. Bell
3. Taylor
4. Root
5. Morgan
6. Bopara
7. Buttler
8. Woakes
9. Broad
10. Finn
11. Anderson

^Need to push Taylor back up to 3 (should never have been moved) and replace Ballance for Bopara.

I'd be tempted to swap Bell for Hales but I think we'll need the experience of Bell in this match and with Hales not playing much cricket of late it's a bit of a risk.

Chris Jordan's power play and death bowling has been very impressive. Finally might have found someone to do that job in the future.

I can't see Afghanistan beating England, but I'm pretty sure Bangladesh will. Can see them getting a big score against our bowling and then their spinners causing havoc.

Step 1 Completed :thumbs

I hope England lose.......sorry to say it but we just dont deserve it and hopefully a real disaster will shake things up: we need a complete and utterly new approach to cricket in this country.....we are years behind....

Wouldn't it be nice to win though? Seeing as this is the World Cup which only come around every 4 years! I'm no fan of Moores (same approach as Flowers, just nowhere near as good at it!) but I never want England to lose, as I do support them. Hopefully the incoming ECB Chief, Colin Graves, will see the deficiencies and look to shake things up. Seems unlikely though. I think it will take an Ashes hammering for Moores to be asked to leave.

There must be loads of County Cricketers looking at Jordan and wondering "why am I not in this team"! Such a poor bowler. No consistency.[DOUBLEPOST=1425891836][/DOUBLEPOST]

It was his first set that was the problem! His inconsistency drives me nuts!

"Eoin Morgan becomes the second player to make five ducks in an 11 innings sequence for England batting in the top six, joining Mike Brearley who managed it in 1979-80"

Captain Marvel!

This all happens when you just dont score quickly enough....builds pressure.....we are so soft......

It's not a huge score, considering the short boundary

Mission accomplished :clap

Well Played tigers .

His form has been a worry and I won't exactly call him a cunning captain, but, he's someone that as an opposition fan is an impact player and England will be poorer without him, specially considering he's experienced and groomed now.

Problems for England, are not Morgan or individuals. It's how your players are managed. It's also how we Indians treat test cricket. There simply isn't enough importance given to limited overs.

My solution is, that you make Joe Root the captain and Jos Buttler the vice captain. Get rid of Ian Bell, James Anderson and Stuart Broad from this format. They offer a very 'test' skill set. England is not short of talent, it's just run by a bunch of GOONS. Your best limited over player is often tweeting, on vacations or playing leagues in foreign conditions. Not saying he's the solution, but, a world cup comes ONCE in four years and you need to have the best players playing big tournaments.

Alert for England fans in the UK - The Verdict is on at 2pm. I wonder what Bob Willis will have to say about that. It's going to be quite entertaining...

I have been saying for an age, its the Eton boys in suits running the ECB that is the problem. Why oh why did they re-hire Moores? Because he's Downtons mate, that's why.

I agree with almost all of your points, but Morgan is a huge concern. He was making no runs before he was skipper, now he's making no runs as skipper and is obviously not inspiring the team.

Joe Root should have been made captain when Cook was dropped. Also, Taylor was smashing runs at 3, then dropped to 5 for Ballance who is not a good limited overs batter.

I think that I, and many others, rate the Ashes over the World Cup, and this is maybe why limted overs gets slightly put on the back burner. You had Moores saying that they didn't have a settled team to work. Well, you've had since last August to prepare a team, you did, then changed it!

Ian Bell won't be around for the next WC, neither will Jimmy. Broad has lost it. The team, from now until the next WC, should stay be settled with players who will play in 4 years time. At the moment, my team would be:-

Ali, Hales, Taylor, Butler, Root (c), NOT SURE!, Stokes, Woakes, Jordan, Plunkett, Tredwell

If Morgan can get back to scoring runs, he could be no.6, but someone like Bairstow, who is a big hitter, would be great. Plunkett would be an un-popular choice, but if he's given the freedom to bowl, rather than just be an enforcer, he could be great.

I think it's too early to name an XI. I think, there's a method to the madness in limited overs. Ali, seems to know of the madness, I doubt his methods, specially against quicks. I think, he's one of the better players of spin. I seem to recall a young kid who opens for one of the county teams, I think his name was Roy. If you had a talent like that in India, he would have gone through trial and error by now and been opening in this world cup. Same for Hales. I get the priority tests get over ODI's, but I don't think India or any other test nation gets humiliated at marquee events like England does. Netherlands, Bangladesh, Ireland, you name it. The scary thing is that it's been happening consistently in limited overs now. Perhaps, it's a good thing that the associates don't play the big teams so often. I wouldn't rule out an Ireland or Netherlands beating them in a bilateral.

Yeah Jason Roy,very good potential. I think by naming and XI now, you allow time or trial and error.

I'm not totally convinced we'll beat Afghanistan at the moment!

When ENG got knockout of the footy world cup last year I took some solace post tournament in the fact that although we lost, Hodgson pretty much took the best team of players who are up to the pace with modern trends - but the coaches tactics let us down.

With the cricket team not only did we not pick our best players, but the tactics and style of play has been horribly wrong. ENG were on the right track when they won champions trophy, but failed to make tough decisions to get rid of outdated players for modern ODI cricket like Cook, Bell, Anderson, Tredwell sooner and introduce guys like Hales, Roy, Vince, Taylor, Rashid.

Picking Ballance to bad @ 3 in this world cup out of nowhere and not backing a player like Bopara optimizes the teams stupid thinking for ODIs.

But of course ENG are forever paying for leaving out KP.
