England Team Discussion

Joe Root should have been made captain when Cook was dropped. Also, Taylor was smashing runs at 3, then dropped to 5 for Ballance who is not a good limited overs batter.

Ballance is a fine one day player. The stupidity of England's change/selection is that he is a 5/6. They moved Taylor who was batting well at 3 and put him where Ballance should have batted.

Be in no doubt, an in-form Ballance should be in our 11, but as a number 5/6 "finisher", not a 3. The guy has a list A average over 50 and plays that down the order aggressive finishing role for Yorkshire.

You are right of course. I think wrote off Ballance too quickly in that post. He's had a very poor WC, but as you rightly say, he should be coming in lower down the order.

Well it's understandable because on the WC evidence he doesn't make a pub 11!

It's just so wilfully stupid from England - our current number 3 is doing fine and the guy we're bringing in bats 5 or 6... But he is our test number 3, so we'll put him in there and shove the other guy down the order. What could go wrong ?

Yes very bad decision making. Feel sorry for Tylor mainly, because he'd waited so long for a chance, and then did so well, only to get bumped down.

I think there needs to be an immediate change and we need to put in people like Stokes and Hales and give them chances to make mistakes and learn

THERE IN, lies the problem of England. I don't care what Gary Ballance's stats read in the domestic circuit, he is NOT a limited overs batsman and I'm sorry, I laughed hard when you said he's a finisher. You have the likes of Jos Buttler, MS Dhoni, AB de Villiers, Andre Russell and Glenn Maxwell in that list of 'finishers.' I'll stick my neck out and say that Balance is not a quarter of the player these guys will ever be. He just doesn't have the game for it and I know this because I've seen him bat.

you don't know what you are talking about.

I liked the bit where the ECB thinks they run cricket and were all "ten team World Cup, bitches" and then we're like "yo Ireland, stop trying SO hard ROFL, you be all playin' for us anyways" and then all up in Afghanistan's business n'all like "back to the desert, towel heads, nah JJ but seriously GTFO to Dubai to play qualifiers k thx bye"

....and now they be all "Anyone want a game? LOL. Nah seriously anyone? We gotz some time to kill and that Waitrose supermarket sponsorship is lookin' pretty fragile... Anyone? Hey Zimbabwe, you guys want a Test series? Anyone? Nah, we all fine. YOLO!"

Got them covered:
If they weren't a team full of overpaid show ponies the ECB should take up that Japan challenge, but unfortunately Broad needs to get home to mummy who's been worried sick about her little boy...

...and Morgan needs to switch his passports ASAP.

Reminder that Bangladesh lost to Hong Kong last year

e: also everyone should retweet that Czech tweet, it should have as many as the others and its a crime that it doesn't

One more thing...

That's the coach of ENGLAND tweaking CRICKET bemoaning that his team hasn't been playing enough quality ODI players/opponents. We're through the looking glass, people.

...I can hear Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands and Afghanistan doing spit-takes and throwing laptops around from here.

Hilarious press conference.

No you see England playing a tri-series against two of the top three ODI teams in the World following a seven ODI series against another top level ODI team following home tours by the latter team and the reigning World Cup winners isn't playing enough against top level ODI teams, while Scotland getting one full member ODI a year is good because they learn a lot by losing to Australia by 200 runs every four years

That's why I have a bit of a soft spot for Pakistan: they're the only top level team to actually tour Ireland and Scotland as a standalone thing: it was combined with the Champions Trophy but they could have gone for warmups against full members instead.

Ireland will play against India tomorrow to a Sold Out crowd in Hamilton. I can't get tickets for it...

Afghanistan v NZ was sold out on Sunday.

Scotland v England was well sold and was reported on widely around the world with great interest.

This (BCCI, ECB, ACB) idea that there's no gate-sales and crowds showing up to watch Ireland or Scotland play or even that spectators (Me!) won't show up or enjoy these games is actually ridiculous.

I pre-purchased tickets for UAE v PAK for gods sake and I wasn't sitting alone at the stadium either!

I'm so tired of this ICC concept that more teams = less fun. Quit bullshitting me it's not about the money and you give a toss about the entertainment and growth of the sport.

Schedule the matches at appropriate times, venues and the crowds will show up and have a blast. Nobody that goes along to India v Ireland tomorrow will walk away thinking that it was a waste of money or that Ireland aren't a GREAT team to support and enjoy.

Not sure I agree with you there blocker. I don't think you can have Root, Taylor & Ballance all in the same ODI eleven and expect to score runs at a decent enough rate.
