England tour of South Africa 09/10

But we were getting it in far too short to Harris, we should have been getting it a lot further up. Hauritz likes to be able to take it deep into the crease and we were prepared to let him have it like that.

Just got up and looked at the score: well done Swanny! This is once again another cracking match and proof that test cricket is absolutely fascinating and a joy to watch. Long live test cricket!

Okay, in non sexual references, We bowled far too short at Harris and this time it was Onions that was guilty of it not Broad.

Pathetic bowling at the end by our fast bowlers especially. Harris did nicely to once again show that he is better than most people give him credit for. Nicely played by Swaan, he really to the attack to our bowlers. We will need to try bat above 3 runs an over to set 350 or so for England to chanse on day five. It won't be easy to chase on a 5th day pitch if the low bounce continues.

I think that 350 is the minimum, can't help but think that we should have contained them and taken a 130 or so lead minimum into day 4. We have had this problem against a nothing to lose competent tailend of a line up before, for 2 and a half sessions we were brilliant on a enigma of a wicket.

The trend is that the afternoon session is the flattest so you obviously need to go on a slog if you have wickets and a substantial lead, herein lies the problem with a 60 instead of 130 lead, I think we have to bat most or all of tomorrow now to get a rather safe 350.

Could have been so much better. Really need to figure out a way to get rid of swan. He did this to aussies as well.

Still in a good position. Now a solid batting performance and hopefully get a good lead and then push on for a win. Will be hard but it is doable.

I have, and still do, blame Smith for our inability to take lower order wickets; he doesn't have a clue of how to set a field, other than what the textbook has taught him.

I don't see us winning this test. We need to bowl much better than we did in the first innings with Swann being key. Then we need to hope the grubbers are few and far between in the England second innings. SA are still very much favourites.

RoboRocks added 1 Minutes and 59 Seconds later...

We can't keep selecting Bell. He just doesn't have the temperament for test cricket. We need to bring Wright or Rashid in the next game, or maybe Sidebottom.

Please no, good god no and possibly. If he's gonna bat like he did, then probably any bowler would be a better option (apart from Rashid, who needs to fly home now). Tredders as a second spinner would be far better (even if he got no wickets and went for loads).

I'd say draw, followed by England victory tbh.
Batting third with 2 days left means you have all the problems of when to declare. Too early or get bowled out, easy target; too late, almost certain draw.

England won't be able to chase 450-500 on this pitch unless it settles down or gets considerably slower. If SA declare mid-way through the evening session, then that will give them time to bowl England out.

We will need to bowl brilliantly to keep them to a manageable total.
