England tour of South Africa 09/10

England to lose this from here. Already given away far too much after the great start they had. On the other hand, I really don`t see Smith declaring before a score of 400. England might just have to play out 3 sessions or so for a draw in that case.

Amla really surprises me with his consistency. He looks ever so uncomfortable at the crease but sure knows to churn out runs.

The issue we have with Amla is he has had a lot of really good 40's and not gone on, that said he is a really good player to have in the squad, his place is well warrented.

Ian Botham = idiot. His views on most things are utterly biased, he doesn't stand to reason, and is the most annoying person to argue with.

David Gower, Nasser Hussain and Atherton are good commentators here. Botham on the other hand, is a so and so. Just thought I'd say that :p

I love David Gower owning Ian Botham.

I'm with Botham, the system is flawed.

Geoff Boycott was just saying the exact opposite on the Supersport feed we are getting here in India. He feels its good enough.

Is there anyone else here who finds the SA commentators boring. Also, where are Robin Jackmann and Barry Richards? Don`t he commentate on Supersport? Kepler Wessels` tone sounds too uninteresting and the same with Cullinan. Donald and Pommie are good though.

EDIT: My bad. Just heard Robin Jackman`s voice.

I just don't see how a ball that hawkeye was predicting to flatten the leg stump can be given not out. It defies the point of it's use.

Did`nt they have something like the `Zone of Certainity` within the 3 stumps in Hawkeye to eliminate the errors?

That delivery just gave me a flashback to my Saturday afternoons in the summer.

yeh, it's 2.5mm, that's a fair amount smaller than a stump! by the cricinfo commentary, broad is once again wasting the new ball! FFS!

Great batting by Amla, got out to an unplayable ball. FOr a moment I thought we were in series trouble but AB and Amla did the hard yards to get to an extremely hard total to chase. Morkel really bowled nicely to the lefties at the end of the day, and Strausses wicket was the cherry on the top.

at the end of the day, with the review system, players are going to moan, moan, moan, every time it goes against them, but really, who's to blame?

the stupid players who've been doing everything to put the umpire off and get their own way over the last 10 years.

I'd rather a system that players complain about the time taken to take a review than a system that lets players cheat the umpire.

that was strauss' fault. batsmen had reached their landmarks, were looking for quick runs, and so strauss takes a nice new ball that will come on to the bat and leave it harder if they connect.:doh

From what I was reading he was pitching it far too short, which surely can't be Strauss' fault?

@TumTum

Yeah not sure...my guess is hes giving himself a bit more cover since Kallis cant bowl and De Wet is in his first game He might have declared about 5-10 overs earlier had Kallis been fit and Steyn in the side.

And as we've seen throughout the game, both teams manage to up their rate the longer the day goes on and the track seems to flatten out toward the latter stages of the days' play. If England do manage to hold on during the morning without too many setbacks, chasing the extra 30odd runs will probably prove vital if the pitch again gets flatter with the old ball.

Also I think it was a psychological thing, making England chase more in the 2nd innings than in the first because generally teams dont do that.

Just my take on it...could be any of those I guess lol England does have a stronger line-up than us in this game....and Swann batted like a freak the other day so hopefully Morkel can keep hitting some good lengths and get a few to crawl through as well. Hope the cracks are nice and wide tomorrow....
