England tour of South Africa 09/10

Tell that to Nasser Hussain, lil 19yr old witch-hunting bugger. :)

Oh btw, if you don't care, why do you reply? Stop trolling will you :)

:facepalm

It sums you up. One giant face-palm.

So yeah to use your famous saying, let's get back on topic, stop trolling, and butt kiss anyone with any sense of authority :)

I put my life savings on Bell making a century :spy

Lost that other ?2.50 as well then ;)

Read a good post on CW regarding the ball tampering issue. Sums it up pretty nicely I think:

A storm in a teacup.

Is Anderson really going to stand accused of ball tampering on the strength of that evidence? Come off it. If you think that's ball tampering, have a look at the old footage of Aaqib Javed with his thumbnail dug into the ball; think about John Lever with his vaseline, or Chris Pringle or Imran Khan with their bottle tops. What Anderson did was in a different league to that. Stupid, yes, because he opens himself up to supurious allegations, but ball tampering? Come off it.

Broad's gives me marginally more concern because what he did might actually change the condition of the ball, but please let's be realistic about this: if you're going to tamper with the ball you would at least do it in a way that allowed you to know which side you're damaging, rather than putting a foot (very gently) on a rolling ball.

RDF in trying to stir ████ shocker, I thought with you not posting in cricket discussion for the last week you were finally gone.

That's like defending a murderer on the grounds that there have been plenty of worse ways in which somebody else has killed a human being when comparing it to this said person. Ball tampering is ball tampering, whether you're using bottle tops or scratching the ball with your fingers.

I'm gone nowhere. Shared an article I thought worth sharing, adding a new perspective and dimension to whole discussion. And the cherry on the cake- it comes from someone as experienced as Nasser Hussain :)

Agreed. There was something about Marcus Trescothick in the past which was reported a bit in the media. He had written in his book about some sweets or something that they used to swing the ball early during Ashes 05

Seems england will again save this game. It was unfortuanate that collingwood faced most of that spell from steyn, bell would have nicked one of those.

That's a horrific analogy and completely wrong too. There are various differing levels of ball tampering.

What about when fielders deliberately throw the ball in to the ground on a throw in to the keeper/bowler? That'll damage the ball far more than what Jimmy did.

As for Nasser's article, it's Nasser, I like the guy, excellent captain for England, but he never makes sense and there are far more knowledgeable and down to the earth cricket commentators than Nas.

Nasser's saying that it wasn't ball tampering, but that Indians etc. would be accused a lot more often than an English player, or a South African. Which may or may not be the case.

Looks to me like Anderson was just cleaning mud out of the seam with his thumb though. It's the best method to do that. I spent a couple of years Umpiring and doing it at every fall of wicket. ;)

50 for Ian Bell. Keep going lad, shut the doubters up even more. 2nd innings in the series where he's made runs when we've needed them most. Come on Belly! Get a few more and make yourself England's leading run scorer in the series so far.

^ Hope he does as you expect him to. So much talent he's got and hope he does justice to it

Gonna say that I feel I under-estimated Bell, but he does look like he has begun to sort his head out. His technique was never his problem, but this innings is exactly what he needed to do to prove everyone wrong. Good on the lad

Yep, lets hope he can bat till the end and score a bit more. Good stuff so far.
