Story England Vs Australia - Ashes Tour - Australia

End of 1st Days Play:

Western Australia: 27 All Out

England: 91 All Out

England Lead by 64 runs going into the Second Innings

The pitch has stayed the same overnight but the temperature has dropped a bit, still no chance of rain though as Western Australia chase 64 Runs. After only making 27 in their first innings Micheal Vaughan has decided that he needs to give his team a challenge and has elected not to use Ashley Giles as much in the second Innings.

Western Australia: 2ns Innings

Hoggard gets hit for two singles on his first ball but the batsman wishes he never made the second one as he gets caught by Thorpe in the slips, a full ball by hoggard, pitch on the off stump and cut away. Hussey goes for 2.

Western Australia: 2/1

Hoggard gets another wicket a few balls laster as Gilchrist goes for a duck, Hoggard bowls a rare bouncer and it clips the Australian Captains bat and carrys to the safe gloves of Geraint Jones.

Western Australia: 2/2

Flintoff gets in on the action with the wicket of Muleman who edges to Strauss at third slip, a hard catch but the diving Strauss handles it brilliantly and keeps it safe. He goes for 1.

Western Australia: 5/3

Giles bowls a flipper and it goes straight throgh Norths Defences and onto his middle stump, the bails come of and Geraint Jones jumps for joy behind the stumps as North also goes for 1.

Western Australia: 5/4

Harmison misfields a ball out at the sqaure leg boundary but recovers only to mis-throw and give away four runs.

England are starting to find it hard to take wickets and Western Autralia are finding it hard to get runs as the match draggs on.

Harmison comes into the attack and is swatted away for a square leg boundary.

Campbell has a good innings as he reaches 47 before being caught on a dodgy LBW descision by Caddick. The ball pitched in line but looked as though it was bouncing wide and above leg stump but the umpires finger went up nonetheless.

Western Australia: 82/5

Giles is brought back into the attack to immeadeate effect, dismissing Hogg for a first ball duck, caught by the ever present Strauss.

Western Australia: 82/6

Giles is going to be a match winner against the Aussies in the upcomming test series against the Aussies, they just dont seem to know how to deal with him as he takes another wicket on his next ball as Casson goes for a first ball duck.

Western Australia: 82/7

Williams faces the hatrick ball for the second time in two innings and once again he edges to Jones who runs to Giles and hugs him. The whole team celebrate Giles' double hatrick.

Western Australia: 82/8

Angle is dropped by Strauss first ball but Rodgers is bowled by Caddick on 28. Caddick up roots the middle stump with a medium paced ball which beats the bat.

Western Australia: 88/9

Angle smashes Giles for six before getting caught LBW next ball, Giles picks up his 13th Wicket of the match and ends Western Australias Innings.

Western Australia: All out for 94
Clarke didnt Face.

Ashley Giles:

2 Innings
9 Maidens
13 Wickets
9 Runs
2 Hatricks

England need to make 31 runs to win and 30 to draw.

So, England come out to bat needing a very comfortable 31 runs to win, Vaughan and Trescothick should bat out the Innings with ease.

England: Second Innings:

Vaughan gets hit full on in the visor first ball which may unnerve him a little but the next two ball go for 4 byes so England look ahead with high hopes.

Vaughan and Trescothick are playing it seadily and taking there time at the crease, they are in to hurry.

Trescothick smashes Angel for six which probrably caused the evil bouncer next ball.

A four from Vaughan and a six from Trescothick wrap up a 10 wicket England win.

England Finish on: 33/0

England win by: 10 Wickets

Vaughan (5*)
Trescothick (19*)

Extras: 9

W-Aus: 27
Eng: 91
W-Aus: 94
Eng: 33

England carry on their success rate to 5%

After Rob Clarkes dissapointing display against the Western Aussies he will be replaced by McGrath for the next Test, then Vikram Solanki will get a chance and one will be picked to play aginst the Aussies.

I dont understand the success rating system of cricket 2004. You've played 2 games and won both, so mathematically your success rate is 100%, so that if you lose the next game, it drops down to 66.67%.

It just adds on a percentage for every game that you win- the only thing it matters for is trophies anyway

Im finding it really wasy to take wickets and am bowling teams ou for under 150 almost all the time.

im thinking about trading the PS2 one in and getting the PC version but i wont be able to play as much then. ill see when i finish the tour.

The Cricket Show opens up by showing all of Ashley Giles' dismissals from the last match and a few of his shots too, they then show the man himself bowling in the nets, he comes out for a rest and TCS question him about his time here in Australia:

TCS: So, Ash, the big day approaches as the England team go head to head with the Aussies at Brisabane, if you bowl like you did a few days ago it will be over in a flash, do you feel confident enough in yourself to believe you can do it again?

Giles: Well, it wasnt easy, i can say that, but i think luck had something to do with it, but i think my ability as a spin bowler shone through and getting those wickets has really helped me allong in my game, especialy with the backing of the skipper and the squad and i fel that i am the best spinner in England at the moment so yes i can do it agin given the chance.

TCS: Your batting ability isnt what it could off or has been, do you think this area of your game needs to improve for you to progress?

Giles: No, not neccesarily, im batting at number 8 at the minute and number 8 batsmen arent expected to score high so if i do, i do, if i dont then i dont, its no big deal, im concentrating more on my bowling but i will be practicing some batting before we take on the Aussies for real.

TCS: How have you been prepping for such a big game?

Giles: Ive been working on my action a lot, you know, trying to keep the same action whilst releasing different balls from it, this can really decieve a batsmen and can help me get the vital wickets.

TCS: Finally before you go back into the nets, what do you rate Englands chances of bringing home the trophey?

Giles: I think its a bit too early to think about that yet but we all have it in the back of our minds so at the minute id day 50 - 50.

TCS: Thanks.
