England vs Sri Lanka - First Test :: Sponsored by Marcus Trescothick's Cricket Coach

Making Plunkett an AR based on his ODI fifty (just one) is nothing less than ridiculous. Dilshan has an average of 36 but not enough wickets, Samarweera has 14 wickets but at an average of almost 48. Maybe there is a reason they're not given the ball that much, its because they suck with the ball!! I've made Vaas an AR since he has 9 test fifties next to his name.

Remember, this is a fantasy cricket comp based on real test stats.

BTW, if you thought I didn't notice their figures, perhaps you should've PM'd me first.

They don't really suck with the ball. They're just aren't giving opportunities, since they're called in as batsmen in the squad.

And in case you didn't notice. I've been making Fantasy Cricket Games since the beginning like this. I looked at all the figures, not just the Tests.

And I am writing this here so everybody can read this and give their opinion about it.

Murali wasn't really injured, he went home for a family bereavement. He is back for the 1st test though.

Yeah, you're right. I think already posted that in the chat forum. And yes, he was supposed to come back at time.

It's up to the Fantasy Cricket maker to put what he considers all rounders. If Nightprowler wanted to making it challenging thats his call.

I guess it does mean we have to be creative and extract the best we can from the choices available. Whether a player gets wickets or not, Samaraweera is listed in the allrounder spot along with maharoof for Sri Lanka. But i can see that there is only 4 genuine all rounders, so i think Nightprowler probably has it about right.

i guess we all want the players in the team who can both score runs and have a chance to pick up wickets :)

thanks for putting the prizes up sponsors and PC Staff :D appreciated!

the first time ive put real thought into my team for some time (probably wont help)

oh btw i see Aussie is climbing towards my virtual bookie records :D go matey!!!

First-class 35 54 13 800 74* 19.51 1968 40.65 0 2

Plunketts first class batting.

He's not an out and out all rounder, but then probably only Freddie, and maybe Pollock, although whether as batsman alone he is good enough I'm not 100% convinced.

Plunkett has potential as an all rounder.

well....whats the debate about....you can pick the other players as batsmen/bowlers...wouldn't make a hell of a difference, since there is only one all rounder

Thanks Octavius :) Once you've got the cash it's usually up, up and up :)

until you have 150,000 and on day 4 evening realise that you can still bet on SRL to bowl pakistan out on a turning wicket and get 2-1, then Pakistan bats all day against Muralitharan on a turning wicket.

:help

lol! oh well like they say easy come easy go, except i havent won any more money

maybe ill win this contest, get some gambling money and win a trescothick cricket coach!

:hpraise

lol! fat chance :)

thats true, however, if all of the listed all rounders are in your team, who do you list as your reserve all rounder (you must enter a reserve who isnt in your team)

very hard to leave out Flintoff, Maharoof, Vaas or Collingwood!

I am tossing up whether to have Flintoff as Captain (many will) and hope he doesnt perform and maybe stick in Maharoof.

I have bitten the bullet and left out Vaas, something i thought i would never do, but Maharoof is so good with the bat, and i think England will knock the top order off and leave the middle order to score the runs.

It's going to be a challenge but thats fantasy cricket for you. I'll most likely leave out Collingwood. Vass will be lethal in England imo, Flintoff and Maharoof have done more than enough.

Well that's like saying a bowler who scores centuries in First Class cricket should be able to do it in Test cricket as well. Rana Naved has 2 centuries and 7 fifties in county cricket yet his highest score in international cricket is 42. Nobody in their right mind would call him an AR, because he can bat against mediocre bowlers in county cricket but is nothing more than a tail ender on the international scene.

Of course, you can make your FC comps however you want, but there's no need to dictate how others should make theirs.

I dropped Vaas as well. He has a terrible record in England.

Refer to my response to Zahid.

Interesting hearing that the pitch is likely to be a batting pitch. Makes it tricky picking the right batsmen. And of course will Vass be affective in this type of pitch. Hardest thing was picking the SL batsmen.

I think i have selected a very good batting lineup covering the majority of the wicket takers, the players who will upset my plans are Vaas and Plunkett. I decided to reinstate Murali, because i know he'll be thrown the ball at any stage, and he is so dominating when he gets in the mood.

If i could make one change i would have Vaas instead of Murali...so its not a bad swap :D

Octavius, you lost all your vCash or have it bet on some game?

i bet 150,000 on SRL to beat Pakistan when the match was end of day 4;

Sri Lanka 448/5d, Pakistan 89/2...

Shoab Malik made 148, mostly on day 5 , and Murali bowled 42 overs!!!

it was paying 2-1, i guess the odds guys got it right and i didnt :D

so yes peaked at 150K and now i have just enough for a pizza and a six pack, so im happy. :happy

can anyone tell the english bowlers going to bowl along with hoggard as harmison is not there..........Also is murali sure to play???

Yes as was mentioned above Murali is sure to play!

The English bowlers are likely to be Mahmood, Hoggard, Flintoff, then two out of Plunkett, Lewis and Panesar.

More than likely Plunkett and Panesar will play ahead of Lewis, although it is not 100% until an hour or so before the game starts. Adds an element of doubt to the Sri Lankan batsmans minds considering Lewis took 9 wickets against them in the England "A" game.
