Pieterson and Vaughan score hundreds as England post a huge total

England (1st Innings) 385-4 85 Overs
M. Vaughan 131*(192) Tapash Baisya 1-58
P. Collingwood 9*(25) Mohammad Rafique 1-72
K. Pieterson 113(145)

David Gower: So England are right on top of this test match scoring almost 400 runs in the first day itself. They also have six wickets in their hand, which means they can still up the already flowing run rate.

Geoff Boycott: Yes and the two men responsible for putting England in this dominant position are none other than Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pieterson. Well this Pieterson lad surely is turning into a true champion. After impressing in South Africa, he has shown a lot of promise in the more tougher Test version of the game as well. Things are looking very bright for English cricket with this sudden availability of highly talented youngsters from county cricket.

David Gower: Yes indeed Geoffery, both Cook and Pieterson have impressed in this match. Pieterson has scored his maiden test century in his very first game, and dint he do in some style.
But one must not forget Michael Vaughan, who is still unbeaten on 131, at the end of the first days play.

Geoff Boycott: He has played very well, playing some elegant shots. Both their hundreds have put England in this very good position in such an early stage of this test match. Bangladesh are already feeling the heat. But they deserve it, as their bowling has been pretty poor. Just a few good balls here and there, but otherwise very very ordinary.

David Gower: Lets have a look at the England scorecard. Two centuries today from Pieterson and Vaughan, the latter staying unbeaten on 131 at stumps. Alastair Cook also impressed in his debut, scoring 44. Marcus Trescothick made 43 from 49 balls before falling to a superb caught and bowled effort by Rajin Saleh.

The Bangladesh bowling overall was disappointing.

England take control at Lords

ENGLAND TAKE CONTROL AT LORDS

Hundreds from Kevin Pieterson and Michael Vaughan have put England right on top in the first test match against Bangladesh at Lords.

Kevin Pieterson tastes instant success in Test cricket

Having won the toss, Michael Vaughan opted to bat first on what looked likea very good wicket for test cricket. Marcus Trescothick and debutant Alastair Cook then started proceedings for the home side, with the former going after the Bangladeshi bowlers. Cook, despite being a bit uncomfortable in the beginning, played some really nice shots.

The first wicket to fall was that of Trescothick, and it needed a miracle caught and bowled effort from Rajin Saleh to get this breakthrough for his team. Ian Bell, who joined Cook in the middle, scored 10 before falling to a superb delivery from Tapash Baisya. The very next over saw Mohammad Rafique dismiss Alastair Cook, leg before wicket for 44. England were suddenly in a spot of bother at 111-3.

But thanks to a 247 run partnership between another debutant, Kevin Pieterson and Michael Vaughan, England took full control of the game. Kevin really made life hell for the Bangladeshi bowlers, smashing two sixes and fourteen fours in his innings of 113. He was finally out LBW to Mashrafe.

England captain, Michael Vaughan remained unbeaten on 131 at stumps

England finished the day at 385-4, with Vaughan unbeaten on 131, and Collingwood playing on 9.

The Bangladeshi bowling was pretty disappointing to say the least. Rafique was the best performer for Habibul Bashar's team, picking up the wicket of Alastair Cook. Tapash Baisya, Rajin Saleh and Mashrafe also picked up one wicket each, but were pretty expensive. Despite this Rajin Saleh bowled a total of 30 overs, conceding 127 runs, and picked up the wicket of Marcus Trescothick.

I'd be very surprised if even one person votes for Bangladesh

There you go Gold, be surprised, i voted for Bangladesh. And good luck m_vaughan

Somebody had to vote for a draw...so I did! Maybe the rain will make this happen. Otherwise I see no hope for Bangladesh.

Vaughan scores 200 as England cross 500

England (1st Innings) 511-4 112 Overs
M. Vaughan 200*(283) Mohammad Rafique 1-73
P. Collingwood 58*(100) Tapash Baisya 1-96

Ian Botham: Things are going from bad to worst for Bangladesh, as England scored a total of 126 runs from just 27 overs in this morning session. No major chance in the bowling, though I must admit the fielding and the ingeneral effort level has definately shown signs of improvement, which is a good sign. But as it stands now, England are in total control of this game, having scored 511 for the loss of four wickets.

Michael Holding: Yes indeed Ian. England can now definately not lose this match, and even drawing the game might be very difficult for the Bangladeshi side. England can really step up the run rate even more now, and probably declare by tea today after having posted a total as high as 650. I am sure Bangladesh wouldnt want that to happen and will try and get a breakthrough from somewhere in the 2nd session.

Ian Botham: True Michael, and having said your name, another person with the same name scored his first double hundred in test cricket. Yes, England captain Michael Vaughan who has been dismissed in the 190s a couple of times before, finally managed to get to 200. Infact he got to that milestone with a single off the last ball before Lunch. Well done Michael Vaughan, and he has been well supported by Paul Collingwood who is unbeaten on 58. This partnership is now of a 153 runs.

For Bangladesh, it was pretty much the same story as it was yesterday.
