ENGLAND MAINTAIN UPPER HAND AGAINST BANGLADESH

Vaughan hit 265 as England continued their dominance over Bangladesh in the 1st npower Test Match at Lords, after scoring a mammoth 661-5 in their first innings, and then reducing the visitors to 80-2 at stumps on day 2.

Resuming their overnight score of 385-4, England dint lose any wicket in the morning session, and crossed the 500 mark. Both Vaughan and Collingwood were scoring runs freely, and Bangladesh's bowling worries continued.

In the afternoon session, England lost the first wicket, that of Vaughan for 265 after the England captain was out stumped by Khaled Mashud off Mohammad Rafique. However after this Collingwood and Jones stepped up the run rate and by Tea had taken England's score to 661-5. Collingwood became the third centurion of the innings, finishing unbeaten on 129. England made their declaration at tea, and put Bangladesh into bad, needing 462 to avoid follow on.

And Bangladesh got off to a good start with both openers Javed Omar and Nafees Iqbal looking pretty good. The England bowling was disappointing, especially that of the opening bowlers, James Anderson and Martin Saggers, who were very inconsistent with their line and length.

Javed Omar and Nafees Iqbal had put up 67 on the board before Gareth Batty had Omar out LBW for 24 and Simon Jones beat Nafees Iqbal to have him out bowled for 35.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 80-2 from 25 overs, needing another 382 runs to avoid follow-on.

80-2 isn't a bad total,by Bangladeshi standards atleast

Yes thats right. 80-2 is not a bad score, but they were at one stage 67-0, and were looking good. Also the fact that they need 462 just to avoid a follow-on, makes matters even more difficult.

David Gower: Well, Bangladesh are going well at the moment with the score at 138-2, and both Ashraful and Bashar look settled in the middle. England however continue to keep an attacking field, something they can afford with the huge score they have.

Nasser Hussain: Yes very much David. The Bangladesh captain especially has impressed me. Good shot selection, running between the wickets and has pretty much led from the front. Bangladesh have had a good start this morning, but still have a lot to do.

Bangladesh are currently 138-2

Habibul Bashar has been impressive this morning

Wow 138/2 is quite good,I must say.

Impressive stuff by Bangladesh!

They'll be happy if they make a score of around 300.

Nah England have won the match virtually...

Bangladesh should still try their best to manage a respectable total.

Simon Jones and Gareth Batty destroy Bangladesh

1st npower Test Match: England vs Bangladesh
Day 3
Lunch

Bangladesh (1st Innings) 180-8 52 Overs
Khaled Mashud 8*(20) S. Jones 4-49
Tapash Baisya 17*(12) G. Batty 4-56
Habibul Bashar 51(70)

England (1st Innings) 661-5 declared 140 Overs

Bangladesh trail by 481 runs, need 282 runs to avoid follow on.

Michael Holding: After a good start in the morning, Bangladesh suffered a massive collapse, losing six wickets for just 12 runs. Simon Jones and Gareth Batty did the damage for England, both ending up with four wickets each.

Geoff Boycott: Ha, at one stage it seemed as if Bangladesh were going make England earn a victory in this test match. Brilliant batting from Bashar and Ashraful in the morning, but with the fall of one wicket, the confidence went down, and wickets started to fall quickly.

Michael Holding: So Bangladesh now find themselves in deep deep trouble and England can think about wrapping this game up early.
