Third Man's Chat​

David Gower : Hello and Welcome to The Third Man's Chat for the pre-match session of the match .Today we are here for the 1st One Day International match of the Natwest Series between England and Sri Lanka at The Lords, London .We are just a few hours away from the start of the match.With me in the studio are David Lloyd,Michael Holding, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton.Lets hear from this cricketing experts about their views and opinions about todays match.Well Naseer what do u think about the match today.

N. Hussain : Good Morning Everyone.Well England won the close Twenty20 match by two runs by some good bowling by G.Chapple .They will have their confidence high . SriLanka also performed well but the bowlers just got 2 wickets and also Murali was smashed with some great batting by Trescothick and Pieterson .England also have weak bowling lineup with their main bowlers Harmison and Plunkett struggled with their line and length. Both the teams are batting side but they should do well with the bowling.
England and Srilanka are practising in the nets before the match.

M. Holding :This one is the most important one of the seires.The team who will get the lead will have good chance to win the series.Both the capatins are inexperienced and also their bowling but SriLankan team looks lot experienced than the inecperienced England side. Lords is Murali favourite ground he has got many wickets on this ground and he will be the dangerman.England should play well here and not allow him to settle. Also England should get in a spinner in the side .

David Gower: Ian Botham is getting ready for the pitch report down there.

D.Llyod quick word on what tactics should the teams play with.

David Lloyd: England batsmen should attack from the start as their bowling is weak and also as M.Holding said they should get in a spinner. For SriLanka they have a good batting lineup but bowling should be good also Murali is the key man in this match.

The Pitch Report​

David Gower: Thank You gentlemen. Iam Botham is ready for the pitch report .Hello Ian any surprises from the pitch.

I.Botham :Thank You David .Not much surprises from the pitch .This looks to be a good batting track no cracks and its a good flat surface.There's help for the swing bowlers and we have bit of moisture on top of the surface but it will last for first hour and half of the game but then it will be a good batting paradise.
There are few rough patches on the pitch .We can see here a rough patch on the offstump line of the left hander .The surface is a bit loose and if the ball pitches here then we might see some uneven bounce. This should help left handed bowlers a lot.
Rough Patch1

Again if we go near the stump region we can see another rough patch which is very close to the batsman and is just outside offstump line.If the ball piches here then its definately going to turn a big deal .This are ominous signs for England as Murali has the accuracy to pitch the bowl in this region again and again.
Rough Patch2

Overall a good batting track but the pitch will be on the slower side in the end and chasing will be difficult. Team winning the toss will decide to bat first . 270-280 is a good total batting first as batting 2nd will be difficult.Back to u David.

Hmmmmm.... Again dificult task for England!!! If they bat first, Vaas is going to be targetting that rough patch!!! if they bats second, its not easy to chase!!! Anyways to England.

Thats a great pitch report, obviously win the toss and bat first, if Sri Lanka bat first I think they will win because of the Murali factor, also facing Vaas could be difficult.

Very nice pitch report. Yeah the rough patches are visible, but I dont think they actually play a part in-game in ODIs.
