"I have always been proud of playing for England and just missed out on coaching them [in the past] because the timing was not right,"

----

So any thoughts?

I'd enjoy having him take over from Fletcher, I think we need some fresh ideas, after 7 years things have gone a bit stale imo.

PS: I would've used quote tags but the page is being an arse and it's not loading properly.

After the WC or during it also [if Pak get kicked out early]
The coaching arena would undergo a drastic change in most test-playing nations.
India,Australia,England and now Pakistan.

Personally i'd like it to happen. Fletcher has done wonders for us in his stint and i'll always be fond of him for that, but we need a change of management after the 5-0 drubbing.

no, bob woolmer should stay with pakistan for ever or atleast until duncan does want to be the england coach any more. duncans done a good job so far, england didnt play rubbish in the ashes batting and bowling wise, just the aussie batsman are very good, if the bowling coach stayed with england instead of moving to the aussie side, it could have gone a better way, not many countries beat australia in australia

Haha! Fletcher is Balls. He's good for ressurecting a team but he can't them further. We need an overhaul behind the scenes. Selectors are Pish, Coach is Pish his Backroom staff are Average. The whole coaching structure is poor.
Get In Tom Moody
Andy Flower + Maynard for Batting Coaches.
Try and Lure Lilley to do some Bowling coaching or the next best bowling coach.
Get Moody to bring Penny with him for Fielding. Imo We need a coach for every aspect, then Moody as head Coach on top of that. And the Selectors need to back Moody and Vaughans Selections, and keep out of it. The team should be picked by the Skipper and The Coach. Not a selection panel who are clearly out of touch.

Which is what happened on this Ashes tour. Hence Panesar not playing, yeah great idea.

Anyways, I'd like to see someone 'young' and fresh given a chance. I think Andy Flower would be good. Just someone who knows the game. We can have backroom staff to look at the players performances, I just feel we need someone who knows International cricket in order to develop gameplans etc.

I was going to comment on Woodys post, but MUFC has said exactly what I was going to say.

It's also widely accepted that Fletcher is actually one of the best coaches around. Whether he has the man management, and nous on top of that to actually be head coach is obviously the debateable part (although not in my mind as I think results speak for themselves) but his coaching credentials are almost certainly not debateable, and anyone who has actually witnessed them first hand rates him as one of the best.

I've been a huge fan of Fletcher; he along with Nasser and then Vaughan have turned round our Test team from the joke of the 90's that our one day team have now become.
However, after witnessing this winter's debacle, I think it's time for a change - someone with some fresh ideas. Maybe Fletch has done as much as he can?

It seems Moody is more interested in coaching England than Australia. Moody appears to be the Aussies first choice coach so I suspect England would be more than happy to steal him away from CA.
THOUGH senior Australian officials are confident that Tom Moody will be announced as coach John Buchanan's successor, perhaps at Cricket Australia's February 5 board meeting, those in Sri Lanka, where Moody is now coaching, believe he is more likely to link with England after the World Cup.

Sources close to the Sri Lankan team are adamant that Moody favours England over Australia on several counts; none of them financial. His wife and family are based near Worcester, the picturesque city in which he forged a strong reputation as coach and director of Worcestershire. Moody is also said to view the challenge of guiding England from the doldrums more appealing than that of maintaining Australia's dominance.

Fletcher has done wonders for England and I'm sure most fans will be extremely grateful for that. However, he cannot surely keep his job after being humiliated 5-0. Some of his policies during the Ashes were ridiculous, like making a 3 man selection panel between Strauss, Colly and Geraint Jones (whose threat was under place himself) and playing Gilo instead of Monty.

I don't think Kevin Shine's done a great job so far, the annoying thing is that Cooley would have stayed if we'd offered him a good contract. I doubt we'd have seen a delievery like Harmy's in the 1st ball of the Ashes with him.

There's no way it should just be left to the captain and coach to decide the team like this winter, the selection panel should go on tour with the players. I am pretty sure Monty would have played if Graveney was on tour as he's a big Monty fan.

I'd like to see Woolmer come in.

Actually Harmison first ball was more down to a lack of cricket, he barely plays any cricket for Durham and during our county season he bowled under 200 overs in 2006 apparently.

Shine's done ok imo, not as good as Cooley but how can you replace someone so influential?

Fletchers been fantastic, but 7 (nearly 8 iirc) is a very long time in charge of a team and I think we need fresh ideas.

Moody or Woolmer, I'd probably prefer Woolmer though I wouldn't be disappointed with Moody.
