Spinners - Kuldeep in the playing 11 with Ashwin alongside maybe Shahbaz Nadeem or Axar Patel gets a go.

Pacers - Thakur definitely will get a go with Siraj and Saini if Bumrah is Rested.

Ishant Sharma likely to play Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament so if fit can be drafted in the squad.

The one name that should be called up first is Jalaj Saxena. Any other country would count their blessings to have such a versatile all-rounder but he is nothing more than a domestic name in ours. Neither of those two options have been regular names in the longer formats while Saxena has been a regular to the point of forcing himself back into the A Team again.

I do agree. He does have a good record. I think the only thing that will go against him is the age factor. Do we invest in someone who is 35 or do we invest in young blood?

Jadeja is unlikely to ever miss games to this extent so Saxena could be a handy veteran backup to have while we further develop our next generation of spinners.

I just feel for Nadeem that he has missed out on selection. He last played against South Africa back in 2019 at Ranchi and post that he hasn't been given an opportunity. He deserves to play a few more games for India.

Good to see that our workhorse Ishant is back. It was also good to see that Ashwin and Bumrah have regained fitness. KL Rahul is rather unlucky to be injured. This was probably the best opportunity for him to be back in the side.

I guess India are likelier to play this side

1. Rohit ( In all honesty I am done with him but with the team backing he makes this side and also it is a home series so he is likely to perform)
2. Gill (Had a brilliant debut in Australia and is in a very good form off late so he plays ahead of Agarwal who seems to be struggling with something)
3. Pujara (Obviously we can't keep him out)
4. Kohli (He is back as our Captain, would hope he doesn't disappoint us as he usually does. As a batsman I would hope this is finally his series)
5. Rahane (Just like Pujara we can't keep him out. He needs a little more runs under his belt)
6. Pant (He has proved it in Australia that how important he is to this side)
7. Sundar (Definitely deserves a match after a very good debut in Australia)
8. Ashwin (So our best spinner is back and he would probably make it to 400 wickets in this series)
9. Ishant (He can hold on end up and can also get some important wickets)
10. Siraj (Let this guy get one more match. He deserves it)
11. Bumrah (I just hope he finally gets one home game and doesn't get injured)

Unfortunate to miss out :-
Mayank (He scored his career best score in the last home series but he needs to solve the problems that he has developed off late)
Shardul (He does move the ball around a bit and can contribute with the bat, but considering it's a home series his batting isn't required to the extent. Bowling wise Siraj looks better)
Kuldeep Yadav (probably out due to the fact we can't trust him with the bat, also we can't keep Ashwin out)
Axar (I know he has done well in First-Class but he should wait a little more)
KL Rahul (his injuries are doing him no good, hope he gets a chance soon enough)

Deservingly out:-

Saha (I know he is our best keeper but with age not on his side and him struggling with the bat he can't make the team)
Hardik (not too sure whether we need to play a 4th seamer in India, as a specialist Test batsman he can't make the team, also I doubt his skills for this format as a batsman)
