Who will win the Premiership?

Barley I would say is right where Wilshere was in 10-11, minus the CL appearances ofc.

On the topic of the English media over hyping English players, 1 guy I thought really did deserve it and it was Rooney, and it's disappointing he didn't end up being that great, a couple of more seasons with Everton would've probably helped in hindsight.

The media overrates them of course, as well as fans to a lesser extent. Then of course you have the inflated prices for Englishmen.

Diaby, at 27, is still just a prospect. He has things Wilshere doesn't though, like his strength. Diaby is a pretty complete B2B midfielder, he has an eye for a pass, a good shot, good positioning and he can surge forward on his own with his dribbling. It's a shame he can never play. I rate Diaby higher than post-injury Wilshere.

Diaby was ruined by injuries, but had it not been for that tackle that effectively ended his career, he'd be one of the top midfielders in the league if not Europe. It's a shame he's 99% missing out on the World Cup, he's France's best midfielder.

But he will never be a huge player for us due to his injuries.

Pogba?

Pogba?

Pogba has been a bit-off form in the last month except for that one goal

People were hailing barkey in the england squad and as world class when he had one good game and scored one good goal against norwich.

If a young english player shows promise the hyper is absurd.

To be fair that is a bloody impressive achievement.

To give you an idea, this is what Diaby is capable of, and he's not even close to his best here. His last international appearance where he was MOTM of course.

Diaby gets no credit at all from anyone, even Arsenal fans dismiss him as deadwood.

Read somewhere he was injured again? Honestly couldn't figure out whether or not that was a joke...

Of course he hasn't progressed well. He's been injured for such a long time. 10/11 Wilshere showed frightening ability for his age.[/quote]

Who overrates them ? The English Media. Wilshere was hailed good enough to play for Barca at their peak. But I feel he has not progressed as much as they expected him to.

What the English media says, doesn't represent the views on the average English fan that is very cynical towards English players in the league, the national team. The ENG media is its own boys club, echo chamber when it comes to football matters.

Inflated prices is not the ENG players fault either. Andy Carroll didn't ask Liverpool to pay Newcastle more/slightly the same price as Barca payed Valencia for David Villa during his peak days, for his services.

The lesser league clubs or championship teams know the elite clubs have money & charge too much for the better english players. That's a big problem for a while now that needs to stop.

As Don said, 10/11 Wilshere he was showing serious ability for his age, doing great things vs Barca & having a top foreign coach like Capello in awe. Saying he is overrated now that he is getting all these injuries is very retrospective criticism.

I don't know if Wilshere will ever get back to his 10/11 stage, but i'd be surprised once his injuries settle down in the coming years that he is recognized as a very good mid-fielder to some degree.

On Barkley, same thing goes there - the important people around him have not overhyped him. Coach Martinez was the one who compared him to a combo of Gazza/Ballack - but yet has not overplayed him in games this season, rests him from time to time & doesn't give him exaggerated praise at press conference, even when he scores goals like his solo effort vs Newcastle recently.

Hell i've heard fans on the road/pubs say he is over-rated because his spanish team mate Delufeu (spell check) is of a similar level - but obviously isn't close to being picked for Spain.

Yeah that's the reason that I think perhaps the overrated tag is wrong for Wilshere. He's simply not at his best, well off form. At the very least though, his final ball and shooting have improved since 10/11.

I'm guessing based on your comments that you rate a fit Diaby over Blaise Matuidi then?

Nope, different positions. Diaby can't play as a DM.

Diaby should be starting over Cabaye, and he could give Pogba a run for his money.

I totally forgot about Matuidi, yeah, Don, I don't think there's a place in any realm for Diaby to be starting, and if you start all 3 of them, there wouldn't be a place for an out-and-out creative player.

Cabaye starts for France? Even so, I don't think that'll be the case this summer given the limited playing time he's getting since he moved to PSG.

The ENG media & the public expect too much from Rooney man. There is always talk about what Rooney should be doing/should have accomplished - instead of just appreciating what has already done.

Sure he has lost some of the blistering pace of his youth that made us all jump in EURO 2004 & his disappointing record in tournaments (although he has a very good record in tournament qualifiers which is ignored), that once saw him & a young Ronaldo on the same level. But people just can't accept maybe that Ronaldo was just destined to be the great player of his generation & Rooney was just going to be one of the very good ones.

Rooney just scored one of the great premier league goals vs West Ham this season & during ENGs stuttering qualifies - Rooney was the leading scorer in key games. I just hope he has a good world cup & maybe EURO 16 - since the ghost of his EURO 04 efforts wont go ever go away.
