ESPN's Legends of Cricket?

So? Of course you're going to hit over 10,000 runs if you play so many matches. He was just simply pulling his weight. I'm sure there are about 4 or 5 players in the current Sri Lankan side who'll go down more accomplished. Jayasuriya really isn't in the same class as Botham. His not exactly consistant with his batting and his nothing more then a meer part-timer.

who cares about the average He Scored over 10,000 runs and he has hit more sixes then Ian botham

So? Has Jayasuriya ever rescued his team from certain defeat with one of the all time great counter-attacking innings? Has he also bowled and batted Australia out of an entire series? Didn't think so.

i dont know how someone can compare Jayasuriyas ODI records with Bothams Test records its stupid to even try and do that. and I also dont know how someone can compare Jayasuriya to botham, they are 2 diferent players.

now that is the funniest comparison i have ever seen on my time on the internet,

while we are at it why not compare bopara to sobers?
bopara taking england close to winning match vs lanka is greater than anything sobers ever did........

didnt think so

well unlike botham jayasuriya plans to go out in a blaze of glory!
i can still remember what pakistan did to him all those years ago

nearly reduced him to a mental wreck

Where the hell do you get Bopara from?

Probably from his mastermind friend above.

Jayasuriya and Botham are very different cricketers from different eras. Jayasuriya is a hard hitting opening batsman who can bowl a bit off left-arm spin whereas as Botham is a true all-rounder with the ability to win games with bat and ball. Very hard to compare.

I just find it strange that Jaya is being compared with Botham. The latter is one of the best all-rounders in the game (to clarify; not THE best just so gambino doesn't go off on one) and Jayasuriya is a fine batsmen but his bowling is very much part-time.

As a test player, Jayasuriya is merely decent. As an ODI player, I'd go to the extent to say he's a legend. His average may be low, but he did initially start very low down the order and it wasn't until 1996 that he opened. From 1990 to 1996, he averaged 20, since then he's averaged 37, which is quite good for his strike rate which is more than 90. As a bowler I feel he's better than part timers like Sehwag, Vaughan or Bopara. He's not a full fledged bowler but he is better than a part timer.

Jayasuriya is a legend in ODIs without a doubt and if this list was done all over again i would think that he would be in it. also i would consider Jayasuriya a full time ODI bowler its rare to find a ODI in which he didnt bowl 5+ overs.

But He should be in the top 20

not even. who do you take out of the top 20 to give Jayasuriya a spot.

1st of all Murali would be in the top 20 than Lara would probably be moved up to the top 20 so i dont think that Jayasuriya deserves to be in the top 20. in the top 50 both yes and maybe.

Trust you to turn a comparison of Botham and Jayasuriya (two hard hitting batsmen) to a comparison of Bopara, who has played, what, 5 or 6 games for England? and arguably the greatest all-rounder of all time! I mean, where do you come up with these things.

And, by the way, Botham looks to recovered nicely from being a 'mental wreck'.

the thing is alot of players from today would have to be aded to that list and the list would have to be expanded.

players like Inzi,Dravid,Ponting,Kallis,Murali,Vaas, Kumble and maybe a few that i have forgoten would be in the list. i also think that the top 10 in this list are done in a sort off best player of all time order but than after that its just players that people consider good and maybe ahead of their time. is Tendulkar really that much better than Lara that he has to be 30+ spots ahead of him? its no point in arguing in which order players are in only the top 3 i feel are correct.
