[FFX]: West Coast Eagles: Kings Of The Big Game (Tight Game in Sydney)

Half Time
WCE 5.12.42 v Collingwood 5.9.39

PS1.jpg

It's half time and the Eagles have hit the front over the Magpies, currently by three points. The Eagle's resurgence came soon after quarter time with Naitanui setting Subiaco Oval alight with a sparkling 60m goal on the run. Josh Kennedy then converted to bring West Coast within 8 points. After a few minutes of more scrappy football, the West Coast coach Jesse McLure threw young defender Matt Spangher into the forward pocket to spice things up, and it worked like a charm, with Spanghar snapping a beautiful goal from the left pocket. Collingwood soon responded through Shannon Cox, but the Eagles wouldn't relent, as more behinds gushed their way before Mitchell Brown converted from a set shot on the 50.

Eagles Goals: Cox, Brown, Naitanui, Kennedy, Spangher

You're playing a pretty inexperienced side so it hasn't been a bad start.

Haha yeah, I think I went a bit overboard actually.

Not Spangher, he's the worst player ever. At least Nic-Nat's going well:D

Great presentation mate, YESS! Collywobbly is proving their crappiness. *Goldsack (0), Reid (0), Nathan Brown (0)*...disgrace. Beau Waters is having a beauty so far, credit to him.

Cant wait for the 2nd half, Jesse.

Three Quarter Time
WCE 9.17.71 v Collingwood 9.9.63

Lecras.jpg

Mark Lecras got the third quarter rolling with what would have been a goal of the year contender had it been the premiership season, picking up the ball ont he wing, ducking and weaving through several defenders before slotting a goal from the boundary just inside the 50. From then on however, it looked like the Pies were going to steal the game, with Clarke and Cox putting them in front by two points. The Eagles hit back through Masten, before Davis restored the Magpie lead. Ben McKinley had something to say about that however, and slotted a goal from 40 out, before Naitanui extended the lead to 8 points from a similar angle. The Pies seem to be struggling without Josh Fraser, whose injury is still unconfirmed.

Goals (WCE): Naitanui (2), Cox, Spangher, Masten, McKinley, Kennedy, Brown, Lecras

Goals(COLL): Medhurst (2), Cloke (2), Davis (2), Rocca, Clarke, Cox

Top 3 Disposals (WCE): Waters (25), Cox (18), Ebert (17)

Top 3 Disposals (COLL): Didak (26), S. Cox (23), Davis (21)

Gone Cold (WCE): Swift (2)

Gone Cold (COLL): Leigh Brown (2), Goldsack (1), Reid (1), Nathan Brown (1)

ROUND ONE

Brisbane Lions VS West Coast Eagles, GABBA

Match Preview: The Eagles will look to continue their miraculous record in round 1 matches, never having lost one under John Worsfold's reign. They went winless away from Subiaco Oval last season, and will hope to break the drought tonight. The Lions will undoubtedly come out hard, and will want to start their season off with a heavy win against a weak West Coast lineup.

Here are the teams.

Odds: Brisbane $2.10, West Coast $1.60

Quarter time at the GABBA and the Brisbane Lions hold an eight point lead over the West Coast Eagles. The Eagles got the better of the opening minutes, at kicking the first two goals of the match through Josh Kennedy and Beau Waters, but Albert Proud and Joel Macdonald hit back for the Lions, before Mitchell Clark and Johnathon Brown put them in front. Andrew Embley is on fire for West Coast, with 10 disposals for the quarter, while Daniel Merret also has 10 for the home team.

Soon after quarter time at the GABBA and the game turned completely into the Mitchell Clark show, with Clark booting three consecutive goals. West Coast soon responded with 2 from Naitanui and then one from Staker, but Brisbane found a way to counter that with goals from Sherman and Troy Selwood (pictured). West Coast full back has been sidelined with an injury and it is believed he will take no further part in the game. The Lions lead West Coast by 25 points at the main break.

Goals (BRIS): Clark (4), Selwood, Sherman, Proud, J.Brown, Macdonald
Top 3 Disposals (BRIS): Macdonald (16), Clark (13), Sherman (13)

The Brisbane Lions dominated the third quarter against the struggling West Coast Eagles outfit, kicking 4.1 to 0.6 in the term. Johnstone got them off to a flier booting two in a row in as many minutes, before Notting and Rischitelli backed him up with two more. The Eagles could only kick behinds in reply, and at the final change they hold the biggest lead of the game in 44 points. Interestingly enough Dean Cox is dominating the hit outs 27 to Jamie Charman's 8. The Eagles have had 41 more disposals, but are also leading the clanger count 29-37. Can the Eagles stage a record comeback? Find out shortly?

Goals (BRIS): Clark (4), Johnstone (2), Selwood, Sherman, Proud, J.Brown, Macdonald, Rischitelli, Notting
