FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

haha, so you bought Eden Hazard, did you? Or is that Thorgan Hazard?

How come you haven't played Hernandez at all, or has he just not scored any goals?

And I beat Arsenal in the Champions League semi final and I'm playing Real Madrid in the final after they beat Barcelona in the semis. I've already won the league, and had done with 7 matches remaining. Won every PL game this season except for the 1-1 draw with Birmingham at home and a 0-0 draw with Liverpool away from home.

Its Eden. Bought him to replace Giggs in the longer-term. And Aguero was too good to let Hernandez in. He later got injured for 4 months. And when I played him, he was horrible. He scored only one goal.

Bought Montolivo to replace Scholes. And Stekelenburg to replace Van der Sar. And also Bale. Really nice players.

Route to CL: Beat Benfica narrowly in the Last 16, then gave AS Roma a treat, met Barca in the semis and won over them on away-goals. Then beat Arsenal 3-2.

Aguero won the Striker of the Year award, Rooney came second in the European golden shoe award for the CL highest-goal scorer, scoring 10 goals, on equal with Vucinic but Vucinic won it on the virtue of fewer matches.

How much did you pay for them? Stekelenburg is a good signing, much the same as De Gea except De Gea is 20 years old and has 4 star potential, compared to Stekelenburg's 3. So I'd be saying you'd want to pay 10-12M pounds for Stekelenburg.

I tried to sign Bale at the start of the season, but I didn't pay him enough, but Nani has been awesome at left wing, I play him as an inside forward so it is much more efficient to play him on the left side, and Valencia and Bebe have been rotating on the right hand side, so I'm happy I didn't waste my money on Bale.

And why would Montolivo be a replacement for Scholes? They're two completely different players. Scholes is an attacking midfielder, Montolivo is more defensive minded. Or are you planning to completely swap roles around but then again, Fletcher is much better than Scholes.

Try having a look at Miralem Pjanic from Lyon if you're looking for a playmaker or attacking midfielder. :)

And the Champions League title is ours, thanks to a double from Jonny Evans, one from a free kick and one from a corner. So we won the Champions Cup, FA Cup and the English Premier League.

We were undefeated in the league, only drawing 2 games. Nani was the Footballer of the Year with 14 goals and 18 assists with an AR of 7.66, Hernandez came runner up with 33 goals and 12 assists with an AR of 7.80. Jonny Evans came runner up in the Young Player of the Year. He had an average rating of 7.60 in 26 matches. Rafael managed to take the Young Player of the Month award on 5 occassions and had an average rating of 7.41 over the course of the season in 35 matches, after missing the last 3 games through injury and came on as a substitute in the CL final.

Daniele De Rossi had a superb season, starting in every league match, scored 6 goals (most of them stunning goals) and made 11 assists, 3 MOTM awards, Pass ratio of 89% and an average rating of 7.39. But we had 8 players in the starting XI Team of the Year. Here was the team of the year. (Bolded players are mine)

Pos: Name - Apps - Gls - Av Rat

GK: David De Gea - 38 - 0 - 7.20

DL: Patrice Evra - 38 - 0 - 7.34
DC: Nemanja Vidic - 37 - 6 - 7.57
DC: Jonny Evans - 25 - 6 - 7.60
DR: Rafael - 35 - 1 - 7.41

ML: Andrey Arshavin - 33 - 7 - 7.36
MC: Daniele De Rossi - 38 - 6 - 7.39
MC: Rafael van der Vaart - 30 - 10 - 7.19
MR: Nani - 36 - 14 - 7.66

ST: Javier Hernandez - 37 - 33 - 7.80
ST: Robin Van Persie - 26 - 21 - 7.45

And Antonio Valencia was on the bench with 28 appearances, 4 goals, 15 assists and an average rating of 7.33.

 This guy's going to be a superstar. Only problem is that he seems to be injury prone :/ Determined personality, like Rooney so I'll get him to tutor him.

How should I go about making him a superstar? Is it worth signing him on a 5 year contract straight away, and then loan him out when he turns 17? Training? Individual focus? Thing is that his finishing is already great and he has decent pace so he could do well straight away for Man Utd :p

Also recruited some 15 year old right back. 3 star potential, potential leading Premier Division defender.

I'm thinking of managing a Championship team, and recruiting the entire Australian team. What do you think?

I'd give him an individual training focus on positioning, personally.

Montolivo isn't defensive. He's well rounded but primarily a creative player. And Scholes played as a deep-lying playmaker in the last few years of his career so that would be the role that needs replacing.

You're telling me this guy isn't a creative, attacking midfielder?

Lulz - ignore his wages :D

It's only the Community Shield but got my revenge over Arsenal for the 1-0 defeat in the Champions League in the season before by crushing them 3-0!

By the way, Miralem Pjanic is an invaluable and irreplaceable gem in the game! :lol

hmm, I must have been looking at a different player. I'm sure the guy I was looking at was some great defensive midfielder with great defensive attributes. Nevermind.

And ok, I'll do a bit of positioning training but is it really that important for an advanced forward?

And why are you paying him so much. My highest payed player is Rooney with 180,000 pounds p/w.

And at the start of the new season, I have signed Marek Hamsik for 24M pounds so now my central midfield is very strong with De Rossi and Hamsik with Fletcher as my first choice backup. Also signed a couple of young newgens, Christian Pagliuca for 1.4M, an attacking left-midfielder with 3.5 star potential, better than Nani. My other signing was a 16 yo striker, Alberto Tenconi for 1.7M who has 3.5 star potential. He'd probably make a very good deep lying forward so I'll try and train him to be like that. He just doesn't have the creativity though. Is creativity easy to train up? Also need to get his strength up as well. Phillipe Mexes of course, signed on a free transfer and I got rid of a few players, VDS signed as a goalkeeping coach, Scholes in particular left the club, Kuszczak went to Barca for 2M, Tunnicliffe to Villa for 750k and Hargreaves to Villa for 3.5M. My last signing is going to be a 17 yo central defender, Patryk Broz with 3.5 star potential, for 1.5M.

----------

Just won the Community Shield on penalties after a 0-0 draw. Lampard took the first penalty and converted from the spot. Hamsik on debut was asked to take the first penalty for us and he managed to find the back of the net. The keepers were great though as Torres, Rooney, Drogba and Nani's shots were saved and it was 1-1 going into the 4th shot. Srna then blasted it over the top of the bar. De Rossi managed to put it home though to give us the lead. Malouda converted from the spot though and the other debutant, Mexes who had come off the bench and picked up a yellow card, would take the 5th and hopefully final spot kick. And he belted it into the top corner, and we took the Community Shield. Some nervous moments though. Andy Murray made his debut, coming off the bench but didn't really do much, made 2/2 passes and 1 key pass, drew one foul, called offside once, missed 4 headers and didn't make a single shot. He will learn from the experience though.

And signed Broz. He is actually 4 star potential as well :p He's very slow though so that's where I will focus.

We're really pushing our luck this season. 3 cup games and 3 penalty wins already. First the Community Shield penalty win over Chelsea, then we won the EURO Super Cup on penalties against Man City and thon in our first league cup game against Newcastle, we win on penalties despite dominating the game. John O'Shea also missed the last penalty for Newcastle but we were 3-1 up anyway :p Hamsik is the only person to have taken 3 penalties and converted all of them :)

What role should I give to Montolivo? He has been good enough, but I know that he has not performed upto the extent he should've.
