FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

@ P Squared, I think they mayor will laugh that off :p

And Bevab, I already have (look back a page or two :p). I probably haven't utilized Rooney as much before he fits more the Advanced Striker role but Hernandez suits that role perfectly due to his great pace and good finishing so whoever I have there will likely score more goals, and Rooney despite being a reasonable Deep Lying Forward just hasn't made an impact. And by 12 goals in 2 seasons, it's more 12 goals in 1 and 3/4 of a season since I've played like 26 games this season.

Just won the League Cup with a 3-2 extra time win over Chelsea. Mexes was brought into the side and scored as we came from behind twice and finally took the game in extra time through Daniele De Rossi.

went back to my stoke game. was in CL places for most of season and tailed off last 1/3 to finish not even in a europa spot.

next season I was drifting along in 9th after 21 games and thought i'd have to get a bit of a run together to get into europe.

baow i did it 17 games unbeaten till the end of the season no problem to finish 6th.

finances are dire though, already had one takeover = loan repayments and now i have a balance of around 2 million. board say i can spend 27 million, which would obviously screw me over.

lol Typical United isn't it? Flinging Chelsea from the back to win 3-2. Nice game, mate. ;)

Coincidentally, I also played United in the League Cup final but instead of suffering a defeat, I beat them 2-0. :p

Well we beat Real Madrid last season in the Champions League final. This time we did it against Barcelona to secure all trophies this season, but it was a nervous 120 minutes. We had enough chances to score early, given 3 clear cut chances in the first 15 minutes before Lionel Messi scored a beauty after 25 minutes as our spell of dominance didn't have anything to show on the scoreboard. Evans headed home a Nani free kick though minutes later to tie things up though but after that, nobody could score. Macheda was brought on for Rooney at the change but things continued to stay at 1-1, despite a huge number of chances from either team and the game was forced into extra time. A mistake from a Barcelona defender though towards the end of the first period of extra time, proved costly though as Hernandez went on an attacking run before deciding to lay it off for Macheda who finished the move off and give us a 2-1 lead which we managed to hold onto. Hernandez had received a yellow card after scoring a goal earlier but he was ruled to have made foul contact with the defender and received a booking as a result.

We had won the FA Cup the previous week, defeating Liverpool 3-1 in the final while we finished top of the League Table by 25 points. Hernandez finished with 38 goals taking the English Player of the Season. Valencia and Nani were the runners up for that award. I was the Manager of the Year by a long way again. De Rossi was the Players' Player of the Year after he managed 6 goals and 15 assists with an average rating of 7.4, playing in all 38 matches, which only De Gea, De Rossi and Evans managed to do (Hernandez and Hamsik played 37, Nani and Evra played 37 and Rafael played 34). We had 8 players in the Best Eleven of the Year (De Gea, Evra, Vidic, Evans, Nani, De Rossi, Valencia, Hernandez) as well as Rafael on the bench who should have got in over Srna anyway.

Ok, annoying period of transfers for me. Two days before the first league match against West Brom, I finally secure the services of Marko Marin for 19M over 48 months. Guiseppe Rossi is still considering a contract offer from both our team and Chelsea, the bid 12.5M over 48 months + 7M once reaching 40 league goals (I just copied Chelsea's bid cause it was accepted :p). My other signings were Salvatore Sirigu on a free transfer from Palermo as a reserve goalie, Luca Napoli for 70k, a 19 year old Italian centre half. Also signed a 15 year old Italian centre back, Graziano Amoroso for 1.8M who has a heap of potential (Vidic level).

Also after one week in the France role, Italy offered me a job as their national manager and because I have so many young Italians in my team (6 of my 11 transfers made in my career have been Italians and if Rossi signs, it will be 7 from 12), I accepted the offer. Thinking of calling that 15 year old up to the NAT squad now and see how awesome he turns out when he's about 28/29 :p

----------

Ok, Rossi signed for Chelsea. fearsome tweak him.

God I hate these Olympics. Anders Lindegaard, Nemanja Vidic, Rafael, Fabio, Anderson and Wayne Rooney are all playing there and Cleverley and Hamsik are out with injury (despite the fact I never play Cleverley anyway :p)

So then my squad for the first match.

GK: De Gea

DL: Evra
DC: Evans
DC: Mexes
DR: Smalling (Cause I have not one single player who can play right back as Rafael and Fabio are both on INT duty - Smalling can't play right back either)

MC: Fletcher
MC: De Rossi

AML: Marin
AMR: Nani

ST: Berbatov
ST: Hernandez

And my subs:

Sirigu, McGinty (yes, I have no other defenders apart from Ferdinand), Ferdinand, Ravel Morrison (Cause I have no backup centre mids), Valencia, Murray, Macheda.

----------

Still managed to pull off a 1-0 win over West Brom even with Hernandez disallowed a clear goal for offside when he was actually like 5 metres onside. Phillipe Mexes scored the only goal though off a corner. Smalling had a good game at right back though :p

United have won the first leg of this tie 4-1 at Old Trafford and I thought it was pretty much over since Liverpool are pretty average in my save. Then come after the second leg, I just randomly went to check the result and my jaw dropped!

Also, went all the way to the Champions League final and up against Mourinho's Madrid. But unfortunately for him, I ruined his final! :p

By the way, meet my Bosnian gem. :D

Geez, started a new Chelsea save and bought Juan Mata (28 mil) and Lukaku (15.25 mil) in the summer. And boy what a revelation Mata has been.

Currently in November and Torres and Drogba have both gone down within a month with calf injuries and are gone for 4-5 months. Got Lukaku and Anelka ripping up upfront with Mata/Malouda on the left wing and Benayoun on the right. In the first 10 or so games Mata hits 4 goals with 9 assists. Now that Lukaku has gone down for 2 weeks Mata's versatility allows him to play as a striker. Dude, its been 4 games and hes struck 11 goals with 4 assists (inc. a hat-trick against Stoke). Best. Signing. Ever.

I'm starting to hate my FC Halifax squad. Both my left wingers are out with injury, Knott finally came back from injury and was a relief but then Saric injures him in training the next day. Either Saric hasn't learnt his lesson or he doesn't like playing striker cause I'm having to play Petrucci as a left winger and Saric as an attacking mid so if he wants to play striker, he needs either Knott or O'Brien to be fit. I've had a number of minor injuries so I've barely had a full strength lineup named this season. Still in 2nd in League 1 though, having won 6, drew 6 and our only loss has come away to Coventry. Steve Edwards has started to find form and scored 7 goals in his last 6 games after scoring only 4 in his first 11. Sean McGinty has surpassed Will Packwood's number of league appearances for Halifax after the latter has spent a fair bit of time out with injury.

Injuries are a bitch hey, especially with mine. 3 strikers from the first team squad gone. Really tests your depth though.
