Football Transfers Thread

While I admit the English Premier League (the top four especially) is the strongest, to say that a player can be only be considered great if he has played there is not true. Take Messi for example. He is the best player in the world, and is not playing in England.

Phil, I agree that we need to sign defenders. Trouble is Perez does not seem to be to bothered about that. We are linked with Raul Albiol which would be a nice signing, Garay has already been signed, and we have Pepe returning after four games. We still need one more to have enough depth and it seems around 36million euros is being offered for Vidic? Ofcourse Manure will not sell.

Like I have said before, we have never had really good defences even in the period when we won the league and Champions League. Almost all Spanish teams from all decades have never been known for their defences.

Someone like Ronaldo of Brazil who was Fifa world player of the year 1996, 1997, 2002 but wasn?t a great because he didn?t play in the premiership and someone like Messi, Ronaldinho.. etc

That?s a joke of a comment
Look at someone like Shevchenko. Considered one of the best in the world and would have been a great. Then he tried his hand in England. Failed. He cannot be a great.

There is not the slightest shadow of a doubt that the Premier League is the best league in the world.

I could say Henry has never succeeded as well as he did at Arsenal at Barcelona. He was almost thrown out at the start of the season when Pep took over.

Schevchenko was 30 when he joined Chelsea. Past his prime.

Paying 12-16m for Arshavin doesn't seem like a bad deal all of a sudden :D

That?s just one player. Just because one has failed you cant say they all will. Look at Owen he was scoring goals for Liverpool when he went to Madrid he had a hard time and now look where he is now!

I?m sure if you where Spanish you would be saying La Liga is the best in the world!!

No I wouldn't. The Premier League is easily the best. You don't get billions of people watching La Liga.

And what about Forlan? Rubbish at Utd in the Premier League, but scoring goals for fun in Spain. The Premiership is better than La Liga; end of.

Yes you do. Barcelona V Real Madrid would get much bigger TV audiences then Man Utd/Chelsea V Liverpool/Arsenal

But anyway the question wasn’t which league is the best. It was about your comment saying you can't be a great if you don’t play in the premiership. Which is a joke of a comment

Truly great players can excel anywhere. I am sure if Messi ever came to the Premiership he'd be a success.

Which is a comment I stick to in this day and age. I might make allowances for certain factors, such as Messi owes his life to Barcelona for paying for his medical treatment so I won't mind if he stays there for the rest of his career.

The English league is the best but not by far. Well financially it is but then the Bundesliga got more revenue than La Lifa last year, in terms of quality it isn't that far ahead.

I would rather Kaka went to Madrid, they way they do things might be wrong but at least they have a history.

Now United I'll post on because i'm bored. If Ronaldo goes I won't mind. I believe that we are in another Van Nistlerooy situation, where we will actually played better without him because the whole team is based around him and we have other players who we can get the best out of. If he goes it will be for a lot of money and the main thing we'll struggle to replace is goals. We'd probably have to sign a striker. Especially if Tevez left. Benzema would be very nice but unlikely. Don't mind but we need someone who will get goals.

Then there's the midfield. Everyone had a go at me last year when I said we needed a midfielder. I was right, they were wrong. Scholes and Giggs are aging. Hargreaves is knackered. Fletcher and Anderson still have some improving to do but at least Fletcher is making improvement. So we need a midfielder. Maybe De Rossi. Fergie likes him.

So your saying everyone playing in the premiership is great because they are in the premiership?

So does that make someone like Luke Chadwick better than Zidane, Figo, Raul and Ronaldo because he plays or played in the premiership?

You carry on thinking joke comments. When you age you might get a little wiser

No, of course not everyone who has played in the Premiership is great. Those who have proved themselves are. Chadwick never made it in the Premiership, that's why he ended up at Norwich City.

And I'm 16, old enough to know what I'm saying, it's patronising for your opinions to be criticised based on age.

No, I'm fairly sure what lee is saying is that people who do well in the Premiership! Luke Chadwick hasn't actually done well in the Premiership meaning he clearly can't be a great.
