Football Transfers Thread

I'm gonna hate Fifa 10. Everyone online is just gonna be Real Madrid. I'll be sure to stick to the right side to get past that joke right back though. Might be their only weak leak. Well, along with the rest of their defense.

Heinze: Wow, that was a lucky escape.
Metzelder: Shh, shut up.
Pepe: What?
Ramos: Well, Perez has spent all this money on attacking talent. It's almost as if he doesn't realise we're completely useless.
Metzelder: Seriously, shut the hell up!

Please not Owen, please not.:(

I don't know, Phil. Sir Alex knows how to get the best out of players and if we could get him fit, he could be a great accquisition alongside Rooney (they played quite well for England). Plus, he's a free transfer, so why not? Obviously, I want to see others coming in, but if Owen's free, we should snap him up.

Anyway, not sure if I misheard, but SSN just said he's odds on to sign for Utd. I'd love to see him in a Utd shirt personally.

That's true I suppose, but I'll still be Man Utd (you won't want to draw Madrid in any tournaments though!) If the PC version lives up to its early promise of course. And you're right about Real's last line: they haven't got any new defenders at all and that's the area they really need to sign. It'll be so funny if they just fall on their faces...

I would love Owen to play for United as well, MB.

He's hardly played a game in the last half a decade! The injury concerns are one problem, but even then he's lost the quality that made him a good striker, pace. He couldn't even get into the Newcastle side when they needed a win to stay up on the last day of the season. Added to that, that he's a horrible little scouse twat, and I actually can't believe that it could happen.:(

Also, I have no time for people who are only interested in joining the club to boost their chances for a World Cup 12 months down the line.

He's having a medical today. If he gets through that I reckon it could be a good signing. Class is permanent, form is temporary as they say, and I definitely think Michael can get back to somewhere near his best. He's only 29 and should have a good few years left in him. Sure his main weapon is his pace, but he's not completely lost that, he's not suddenly turned into Marouane Fellaini, and he's an excellent finisher. You don't score 40 goals in 89 England appearances on pace alone. I'd like him at Everton actually, if he's fit anyway.

Chelsea have signed Goalkeeper Ross Turnbull from Boro on a free transfer. Cech still is no.1, but Turnbull could replace Hilario as his first deputy.

Exactly. And remember when Andy Cole came to Man Utd? His main weapon was pace, but we turned him into a far more rounded footballer. We can do the same with Michael Owen. Also, remember he isn't going to cost a damn thing, so it's a win-win situation. Plus he'll be teaming up again with Wayne Rooney - a situation that may benefit England in the future (yes I know you hate England, Phil).

I'm not saying we should stop at signing Owen, but one way or another, he'll be a good squad player: I don't envisage him starting up front every game. As I've said before, the one player type I want to see bought in is a tough tackling midfield leader, something we currently lack.

The rumours are he'll only be on ?20k a week as well, with bonuses coming from performing well which could take his pay upto ?110k a week. So really I can't see what could possibly go wrong. If he turns out to be rubbish and constantly injured you've paid nothing for him and very little on his wages and you can bin him. If he performs well then you've got yourself a bargain and an excellent goal scorer. Win-win really.

joke.

absolute ****in joke. We need a midfielder, winger and class striker. We get Michael shitbag Owen

Many top ex players are saying that this move will rejuvenate Owen's career, such as Ian Rush. Also, Owen has been there, done that and got the T-Shirt - that can only help our young kids like Welbeck and Macheda. As you've said, there is no risk, it is a win-win situation. I think he'll be great personally - Rooney working hard as usual to make the room and pull defenders everywhere, while Owen finds the gaps and scores the goals.

Well done, Michael, it took you a long time, but it finally looks as though you're going to play for a big club (R. Madrid don't count - they're a joke club, and as for Liverpool...)

(Can't wait for M Vaughan's comeback to that one).

Relax, there is still time and Sir Alex has not spent a penny of the ?80m. I'm sure we'll see other players come in. Will you still be saying that if he starts banging the goals in? So what if he used to play for Liverpool - it'll be all the sweeter when he scores the winner at Anfield...

I guess you don't think much of the Valencia signing, going by what you've said? The problem is, who else is available out there? The best one has gone to Real (along with most other top players in Europe), Ribery is having poison dripped into his ear by ZZ Top, so what can you do? Remember the problems Valencia gave us whenever we played Wigan? He'll do ok, I reckon.

He needs a very good season to be in the England World Cup squad. If he had moved to Wolves or Hull or somewhere like that he would not have had a chance. This is an ideal move for Man United - he wants to play well to get his bonuses AND he wants to play well to get into the national squad.
