Football Transfers Thread

Was hoping West Ham would sign Joe Cole but Liverpool now have 3 WORLD CLASS players.

In which case they should get a like-for-like replacement with what money they make from him.

Masch is basically out the door from what I understand. But yes, we need to use as much of the money as possible for getting a good replacement, and then the rest on a left back unless we play Agger there. I still think Hodgson will get the best out of Lucas so I think he's a good back up.

Hodgson favours a 442 formation so something like this might be expected:

-------------------Reina-----------------

Johnson---Carragher---Kyrgiakos---Agger

Kuyt---Gerrard---Masch/Lucas---Cole

------------Torres-- -Jovanovic---------

Johnson and Kuyt would continue to make a deadly team. The flashy and fast fullback matched with the hard-worker who likes to cut inside. Then the less flashy fullback Agger has Cole to help him out. That said, Agger played left back a few times last season and was quite impressive. I think with Insua gone, Hodgson might be planning to play Agger there unless of course he's going to buy a replacement. But I'd prefer the money is focused for a quality replacement for Mascherano

Carragher is getting old and had a horrid start to the season last year. But his experience is vital. Maybe Skrtel will start, seems Kyrgiakos lacks a bit of pace much like Carragher. He's a tough man prone to fouling - much like Carragher. If we find a new left back I expect Agger to play over Carragher.

I've put Masch/Lucas but I expect a totally new player to be there. If we can use the funds from the Mascherano and Insua transfers to get a quality defensive midfielder that would be an awesome team. Kuyt, Gerrard, awesome midfielder and Cole. Not a bad midfield eh? Then the pace of Torres and Jovanovic leading the forward line.

A supposed top team can't play 4-4-2, at least not as an offensive formation. Surely the World Cup has shown us that the 4-4-2 is dead at the top level? There are just too many weaknesses to the 4-5-1 and its variants. First and foremost there's a numerical advantage in midfield and therefore you're likely to be totally outpassed. With the advantage, there's going to be a free man. This could either be an advanced player playing in between the lines (i.e. Ozil at the world cup) or a deeper player who can dictate the whole game (Scholes did this last season).

:)

You got Pedro Leon, be happy.

I can't believe it. We are searching for LBs in England and Italy when there was one tailored made for our requirements in Deportivo. A former Castilla player. I know he had that bad injury but he was still the best LB in La Liga last season. He looks like a carbon copy of Roberto Carlos, and is actually better in defending.

And at 12M euro, he would have been completely affordable. Although I am sure Depor would price him at 30M euro for us.

Yea 4-4-2 these days can only work if you have two defense-midfielder to break up opposition attacks. The two wingers that are pacy & can supply you goals. Plus two very good goal-scoring strikers.

Something like this:

--------------------------------------------TORRES-----------------DROGBA-------------------------------------------------------

ROBBEN-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RONALDO

------------------------------------------ESSEIN------------------MASCHERANO---------------------------------------------------

So City have signed Kolarov, and with Atletico having bought Filipe Luis earlier, it looks like its going to be Ashley Cole or nothing for us.

Or maybe, just maybe Jose Mourinho (unlike me) is convinced Arbeloa can do the job permanently.

Capdevila maybe? Oh wait he's Catalan and has played for the mattress makers as well.:noway

Kolarov signing for City is actually great news for Liverpool as they are willing to make a deal for unsettled fellow Wayne Bridge :)
He is not that good a left back though :facepalm

I would love to get Riise back to Anfield :sarcasm

What?. Nah dont diss Bridge he is very solid LB. He had a average season @ City for sure. But i reckon under a good English coach like Hodgson he would work well.

Really hope Cole goes to Madrid for real.

the future of football is 4-6-0.

Another possible left back choice would be Fabio Contrao. He's quite young and he had a very impressive World Cup. It's amazing how quickly and easily he adapted to playing left back.

I remember Roma playing a similar style a few years ago when Totti was the most forward player, who would drop deep.
