Football Transfers Thread

Don't get me wrong, I love Sir Alex to death and he has done absolute wonders for the club in his time, but I am starting to think he is a bit past it. Signings like Tosic and Berbaflop, aren't doing him much good. He doesn't really seem to know who to sign and in this case keeps picking up the wrong people. I mean he has had some very good signings recently such as Vidic and a few that should do well in the future (Nani, Valencia) but why sign Berbaflop?

He is a very naturally gifted player, but he is so lazy. He doesn't seem to work very hard on the pitch, whilst all the others around him do. Now he isn't signing anyone, when he has the money to do it. Balotelli, supposedly isn't coming and people like Scholes and Giggs aren't getting any younger. Hargreaves and Carrick are usually injured and the leaves us with a midfield looking like.

-------------Anderson

Obertan------------------------Nani/Valencia

---------------Fletcher.

But Sir Alex, just doesn't look like he wants to play Anderson where he is supposed to be played.

I don't see what the problem is with Fergie not signing anyone. We don't need anyone. Man City have a great bunch of players, but it doesn't mean they have a great team - and it'll take a super genius to get an XI of those talented players in one cohesive set of tactics. Utd finished 2nd last season, taking it to the last day even though we had a whole bunch of injuries and half the team were woefully out of form. Let's not forget that Carrick played as sweeper at one stage of the season!

Fergie is definitely not past it! If anything, he's better than ever. Since Mourinho he's got so much better it's unbelievable. The ridiculous unbeaten record in the Champions League and two consecutive finals is proof of this. Berbatov will be a crucial part of the team this season. If the whole team pull their weight and not just a few players, then Utd should win the title.

He may not be past it tactically, but when it comes to things like the transfer market, he isn't the wheeler-dealer he once was.

Well not every player is going to be a Ronaldo. And what Fergie did with him is astonishing. Buy an unknown Portuguese kid for 15 odd million and turn him into the best player in the world and sell him as the most expensive. Last season Fergie signed Valencia, Owen, Obertan and Diouf. Valencia has already become an integral part of the team and was one of the few very impressive performers last season. Owen played a small part in the season but that was expected due to injuries and the fact he only signed on a free. Obertan and Diouf and still learning and were put in the reserves but played some League cup games.

The season before Fergie signed Berbatov, Tosic and De Laet. De Laet is still a reserve player. Berbatov hasn't lived up to his price tag yet but he's obviously a quality player. I think this season, playing in a free role he can cause havoc in the season. Fair enough Tosic was a flop, but you can't expect each transfer to be a success.

And then the season before that Utd signed Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani, Kuszczak, Manucho and Possebon. Manucho was a failure but we didn't play an excessive amount for him anyway. Possebon is still learning. Kuszczak has been a good back up keeper. Nani has really stepped up last season and become a good player. He's becoming more mature and intelligent making his whole game better. Anderson is a talented player but he hasn't found his most favoured role yet. Hargreaves was a great player but unfortunately the injuries ruined him.

Over the past few years the transfers have been quite successful on a whole. Obviously there have been a few flops but that's expected.

When Ferguson bought him, Ronaldo wasn't completely unknown, he was still an upcoming prospect but people knew he was, he was on radar's. Hence the fact he cost 15 million.

I still think Owen is a good signing and do agree with these, I don't think Obertan will set the world alight, he has shown promise, but he needs to bulk up a bit.

None of those 3 have done anything, Wasn't Tosic re-sold and we signed up someone else with him in a double-deal. Yeah I just checked it out, was Adam Ljajic, neither have done anything of note yet.

Anderson could have been fantastic, but there must be something that Ferguson sees wrong that the fans don't. Everyone else can see that Anderson should be played as an AM, yet he still isn't. Which is why he hasn't played particularly well yet.

Nani, is certainly coming to fore in recent times after Ronaldo left, but Hargreaves has been injured for most of the time he has been at United.

Added in my thoughts in bold. Whilst Fergie still has something, he hasn't signed any players in recent times that have set the world a light. We just need one more signing, there must be a great player out there we can get to help us back.

Fair points. I personally don't think we need to find another "gem". We have a great collective squad of promising youth and experienced club legends. Last season only a few players had good seasons. So many players were out of form, including club icons like Giggs. Tactically I think United are superior to all other teams, we just didn't implement it well enough because not everyone gave 100%. A lot of luck came into it as well. In the Champions League you can say we got unlucky with the red card to Rafael. United were set to get through but that red changed the whole game (Rafael was also supposed to be marking the near post when Robben scored). If the squad gives 100% then we should definitely win the league.

So, according to Mr Gill, Sir Alex has money to spend. I don't believe a word of it - if we have money, then sodding well sign someone, Sir Alex! Manamecca City don't seem to be having trouble finding people to sign. Also, according to rumours, Balotelli will turn down Man Utd (and a bigger paypacket) to join City. Idiot. City is an experiment - Man Utd are the real deal. :sarcasm

Who needs a player who is going keep fighting with the manager?? He knows with Javier Hernandez coming in and Berba firing all guns during the pre-season he going have very tough competition to become Wayne Rooney partner. Instead he will go to City where he will be a regular starter there and if they dont win titles they he can have some arguments with the manager. At United, if he does that he would be kicked out of the club.

I hope United do sign a world class playmaker this transfer window. We really need one if Hargo and Anderson arent going to be fit till new year. Ozil, Defour or Sneijder any one from this, I would prefer Ozil as he would be cheaper than Sneijder but not Defour who has been injured for the last 6-7 months..

If we sign Ozil or Sneijder, I will out 50 quid on Man Utd to win the league. Both and I'll double it :p.

No, Sir Alex isn't past it, but we definitely need at least two signings.

Edit: That's why I called Balotelli an idiot for turning down Utd to join City - he'll be joining a team of egos.

Ozil for sure - he's a great player and he's very young! He will make our midfield explode!

Edit: Obertan looks like being a very good player for Utd, as does Nani - finally.

Ozil will be the player United needs. Some one who can score goals from midfield. Juts looked at his stats last season for Bremen. He scored 11 goals and 33 assist. Wow!! thats just great.

Anderson should be sold AFAIC. Has been useless since 07/08 season.

- Not sure what he bought Obetran for. Ferguson has consistently maintain (somewhat correctly) that the transfer market is broken & he rather invest in young talent - plus trusting his instinct in judging quality signing. But Obetran & Diouf where woeful buys.

I still maintain Ferguson missed a trick when he sold Ronaldo to Madrid in not getting one of Sneijder or Robben in return.

Very soon also United need to buy another strong defense mid-fielder with Hagrevaes problems & Scholes basically @ the end of his career. The potential starting mid-field of Carrick/Fletcher looks very soft & lame.

Anderson should not be sold, he should be played in the correct position, as I have said before, it is only SAF that doesn't see he should be playing just behind the strikers in that gap between the midfield and the attackers.

Obertan and Diouf were both buys for the future, Diouf will take love to develop but he doesn't seem like a rubbish player, they're certainly better players than Tosic and Ljajic.

Ljajic was supposed to be good though. The next Kaka, or something like that. But, yeah, I don't remember why that deal fell through at the end to bring him to Man Utd. I think he's still highly rated.

I just hope Welbeck and Macheda get more chances this season. While I believe Macheda is the better finisher, and his minor, but important, role in our 08/09 season made me love him, Welbeck looks more talented. But, let's see.

I think he's still around, I know Tosic got sold.

Anderson may be better suited to that role but we can't just change the entire system to fit Anderson in there. I see a lot in Gibson and think he could do a great job for us so I'm not convinced we need to open the chequebook for a defensive midfielder.

I don't believe in Welbeck that much if I'm honest. He's got pace and strength which has got him this far but I think he'll just be average and move onto another club. Macheda has a lot of potential and could easily become a quality target man in future.
