I'm surprised he hasn't bought any of his Fulham squad along with him. I mean they may not be world class standard but Hodgson knows them in and out. Zamora might be a good partner to Torress and someone like Brede Hangeland would provide good cover for the defence.

Very good signing but does this mean Masch is leaving?

Yeah and reports suggest that a deal has been worked out for him at barcelona that sees liverpool getting 12.5 mil + Aliaksandr Hleb :)
Amazingly profitable move to me :)

Masch saga

There's no point paying ?30m for Ozil when the squad is pretty much perfect right now. Ozil is a fantastic player, but if he's not needed then there's no point signing him.

You can argue that Ozil can play a part in this team. But, that would I guess effectively negate one of the other attacking midfielders in the line-up.

Ozil isn't going to cost 30 million. 15 million is what's going around - and I guess that's more than reasonable for Ozil. But, I know where you're coming from. I wouldn't mind if Bremen kept him for another season, seeing as I support them in Bundesliga, but the money would definitely be beneficial, rather than nothing at all.

Kolarov, Silva, Boateng, Yaya Toure and Milner and Balotelli to follow. Just ridiculous.

I wouldn't say our squad is 'perfect', not by a long way, but we do seem to be in decent enough form right now. I would still like to see at least one major signing.

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of hearing about Man City? Every day, it's Man City are signing this player, Man City are signing that player! Even at our height, we didn't ever sign this amount of players in a single transfer window and not at this scale of spending either, even taking into account today's inflated transfer fees. In fact, the most new 'signings' we made during a single window was when we bought through Becks, Scholes, the Nevilles, Butt and so on. We were linked with everyone under the sun, but very few of the signings actually came off. With City, the majority of people they're being linked with are turning up!!

City are rapidly becoming more of a plastic club than Chelsea and that's saying something.

Edit: Stephen Ireland, milk every single penny you can out of those idiots - he's a good player and deserves more than being used as a makeweight!

According to the Guardian, we're going to miss out on Ozil and if it comes from the Guardian/Times/Telegraph or any other 'serious' paper, then there's often a grain of truth in it.

Yeah, we definitely are missing out on Ozil. Logically, SAF wouldn't have bought Bebe if he was going to buy Ozil too.

Cry it off darling, scared that your beloved Manchester United going to face some pressure this season?

If I was a Liverpool fan, I'd prefer money straight up. Hleb is a top quality player though who I really rate. But Hodgson works the transfer market well. He identifies places that need strengthening and brings in solid, reliable players to do the jobs. However, Hleb would add a lot of flair and creativity to the side and you can still get some players in with ?20m. I guess either way you'd be happy.

Yeah, either would be good. If we are only getting ?12.5m and Hleb then it's a different story. My first hope is that he actually stays. Then we could play that 4-4-2 I suggested ages ago with Mascherano sitting deeper. Kuyt is very good at tracking back so he'll play a little deeper on his wings, and Jovanovic would sit just behind Torres like Kuyt used to do in a 4-4-2.

---------------Reina
Johnson Agger Skrtel Aurellio/Wilson
---------------Mascherano
Kuyt---Gerrard
--------------Jovanovic-----Cole
----------Torres

That's what I predict it would eventually be when we are defending. But your points you made a while ago on the 4-4-2 are very good and I see what you're saying. If we play a 4-4-2 then I'd hope the formation would be something like I just posted

That's a good formation considering the way we play. But most probably Cole would be the guy who plays the man behind Torres, while Jovanovic stays in the left wing. Also I would prefer Agger over Wilson if Aurelio isnt playing.Agger has played some games for us as left back.Wilson,I'm very impressed with his calm and composure he showed in that friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach, but I would like him to stay as backup for Agger,Skrtel or Carra for now.I definitely see us improving our position in the table from last season.

That's one weird looking formation.

lols, it would be a 4-4-2 but would look like that when in defence.

I'm not sure if Wilson is EPL-winning/top 4 quality but I think a rotation with him and Aurellio may be the way to go. Johnson-Carra-Skrtel-Agger is certainly an option but I'm not too sure on Carragher lately. If we start him I think he'll need Agger next to him.

Hmmm, I'm not too sure about that formation. With Johnson being his attacking self, Gerrard and Cole being given effectively free roles, you can't rely on that shape to happen all the time. Johnson, Gerrard and Cole could so easily be caught out leaving Mascherano to cover for them all.

Personally I'd like to see Hodgo try something like this:
Code:
                  Reina
            Carragher Agger Insua
Johnson
                 Lucas Mascherano
         Cole Gerrard Jovanovic
                        Torres
In attack you would have Johnson attacking down the wing and becoming the right winger, whilst Cole drifts inwards and creates a 4v3 in the centre of midfield, offering another attacker in a crucial area. Jovanovic would be the left winger in attack whilst still being able to make darting runs into the box. Therefore Insua wouldn't be needed to bomb forward on the other side, creating a 3 man defence + Mascherano, which keeps wary of the counter attack. Lucas would be a disciplined box-to-box player. And Gerrard would have a free role to attack how he pleases, and keep his ego assured.

Hleb is a shadow of his former self. He was ridiculously bad at Stuttgart last season.
That's a real shame. I remember him at Arsenal and he was a quality player who I was disappointed to see leave the premiership.

No, not especially, "darling". :sarcasm See, the thing about Man Utd is, we know how to win things - regardless of who we're facing, regardless of how much money they have - otherwise, we never would've won three in a row with Chelsea in the same league. As for pressure, we're used to that - if you reckon we haven't faced lots of pressure in the league in recent years, then you've been living under a rock. We faced pressure, and three years in a row, we came out on top - with the fourth being lost by a matter of one point.

No, it's simply a case of being tired of hearing about this club who could never win a damn thing - they needed a major buyout to be even considered contenders. At least Chelsea were knocking loudly on the door when they were taken over - City are like a tramp who has just won the Lottery and is desperately trying to fit in with the upper crust of society - and failing. City were where exactly, before this takeover. Remind me. Oh and did you see City's game today? Were it not for an inspired Joe Hart, they would've lost four or five nil.

34 years and counting...

Edit: I hope to God Milner doesn't go to City, as it will turn him from a first team player at Villa into a squad player at City - and that will hurt England. As for the other signing, Balotelli, he's already said he would've preferred to stay in Italy - sounds like he's really looking forwards to playing for City... :laugh

If Chelsea get Ozil we may as well give them the title now. Their midfield would be ridiculously good.

That's what I thought when Chelsea bought in Sheva et all - didn't quite work out that way, did it?
