Atletico Madrid would have been relegated if it wasn't for David De Gea. Thats how good he is, and he will be one of the top GKs in the English league along with Pepe Reina.

We need to make a good decision - after Schmeicel, we went from Barthez to Bosnic - via Taibi (remember him?) That cost us a good few years - our trophy count would've been even higher had we gone straight to Van der Sar. Erratic, you say? Sounds as though it might be a bit of a risk - but as you said, he is young and Man Utd know how to develop young players more than anyone. Speaking of which, the kids won their Cup again, as did the Reserves win their league - I wonder how long it will be before we see some of them in the Utd first team squad? :)

Exactly & because of what happened in those 6 years after the great Schemicel before they got VDS, i think the obvious man to buy is Shay Given.

Hmm interesting that...

What happened to Asenjo? He was touted as the next big thing prior to De Gea's arrival on the scene.

I'm not sure what De Gea's game is, but I don't think we can be left hanging around until the end of the U21s - we need to get this deal sorted ASAP. The goalkeeper deal is the most important deal for us this summer. Shay Given might be a good choice for a few years - maybe five or six - but would City sell him to us? I think Given is a wonderful keeper - too good to be left to rot on City's bench, and he's still in his mid thirties, so he has a good five or six years left.

He was inconsistent and later injured for a long period and when he came back, he could not topple De Gea after his good form and was loaned out to Malaga for the second half of the season.

I still think Neuer should go to United or Given would be good too.
Lloris and Stekelenburg are not required.

Schalke deny Neuer agreement deal

But still if United go for De Gea, Neuer will obviously go to Bayern.

Neuer wants to stay in Germany I believe, so Bayern is the only option for him.

Regarding Asenjo he was fantastic at Valladolid but had an indifferent start at Atletico (defenders more to blame). He also got injured which gave De Gea the break - something he took with both hands. Asenjo couldn't take his place when he came back from injury. Went to Malaga on loan in Jan, but even there he got injured.

Asenjo is good, but De Gea is like Casillas - untouchable.

Yeah, Neuer said that he wanted to stay in Germany, so he will probably go to Bayern.

As good as Casillas - but only 20 yrs old? Maybe we should bide our time with him then.

Hmmm. Good enough player, but is he consistent enough to be a solid Man Utd player? I have my doubts.

Sounds as though Ashley Young might be Old Trafford bound - looks like either us or Liverpool and according to the papers, Utd are favourites. Need to get this goalkeeper situation sorted sooner rather than later though.
