Kagawa should be worth double what he is, atleast a 25-30 m player right there. Modric is great, and near irreplaceable for Spurs, a repeat of the Xabi Alonso at Liverpool saga, but I still don't think he's worth over 40 m. Even 40 m is pushing it. 35 m max IMO.

And actually, since Porto rejected 75 m from Anzhi last summer, actually Hulk would cost more than Kagawa and Modric combined.

Let's not forget though, having the best attack in England can't alone make you unstoppable. City know this, they were lucky that United messed up so bad that they won the title. Getting those signings is juicy on paper, but I bet Hulk will take some time to get used to the Prem coming from Portugal, even though he is a Brazilian regular and both fast and strong. Same with Hazard, though he isn't that strong.

Besides, we have a chance at the best midfield in England too, with M'Vila, Wilshere and Kagawa and with the likes of a rejuvenated Rosicky, Song and Arteta available too. Maybe the season after once they settle.

I wouldn't say Chelsea winning is the worst thing that could happen to Arsenal, it'll just mean more competition. In the end a lot will depend on how well our youth develops and whether Chelsea's manager situation is solved.

However, Chelsea winning is the worst thing that could happen to Spurs, and pretty bad for football that 10 men behind the ball are kings of Europe. Still, as long as Liverpool don't sign anyone good, and continue with English players and players from smaller leagues, Spurs will finish ahead of them and Newcastle. And Everton too, as you do show that you want to spend on the market, and spend well, so the quality will come in and soon enough you'll have new heroes.

Spurs aren't going to finish lower than 5th or 6th IMO. It's not good in any sense, but not the worst thing that could happen.

The issue is attracting players will be hard. It was already hard? Look at our first team, how many of them are players that would have been bought by a top 4 club? RDV is injury prone and difficult because you don't know how many minutes a game he can play before being done. There's Bale who we paid over the odds for and got lucky that we had no left-winger for a while so Harry stuck him there after seemingly having enough of him and not playing him. Walker was a cheap signing from Sheff Utd, Defoe is really only top 6 level as a main striker, Modric was a bit of a punt coming in from Croatia. Lennon was cheap from Leeds when he was young and the likes of Dawson, Kaboul, Benni all bought in under the radar. When you take out the players that made the difference between us being 4th, we could be looking at anywhere really, especially with the fact this has been a settled side for a while and any signings will have to come in and adjust.

I forsaw this disaster if we didn't get top 4, unfortunately I didn't envisage it happening this way.

I don't think it was already that hard. You were being linked to every single player we were, and still are, and seemed genuinely interested. Liverpool did it, albeit with turd players, but I reckon you can come back, as you still have money and Redknapp isn't the worst at bringing in youth. Even a new manager would be fine, to allow players like Sandro and Dos Santos to shine and be given a better chance under a new manager.

You're almost certain to get Vertonghen. I hear he chose Arsenal, and wanted to be with his best friend TV5 (plus he probably saw how poor he was and knew he could displace him from the first team). He then agreed a fee and personal terms, but before confirmation Wenger decided to try and reduce his wages, so he got offended and vowed to sign for Spurs:lol.

The fact is, top quality Hazard-esque talent wasn't going to go to Spurs in the first place, so I don't see what there is to be worried about. Vertonghen is one, Remy isn't exactly the best finisher or smartest player, but his pace can terrorise defences, and who knows, he could turn out the next Henry like some people are suggesting. He's almost certain for Spurs too. Then add the slight possibility of Adebayor permanently (the sales of Bale and Modric can free up some money for his wages), a great keeper, with the likes of Hugo Lloris being thrown about (If he wants England, Spurs is the best place he can go, none of the other top clubs want/need a good keeper), and things aren't looking too bad. If I were you, I wouldn't be too unhappy with this. Better than Liverpool I'd still say.

I know that's not Spurs' formation, but that's a possiblity.

Still, bit of a tragedy to see a team like Spurs playing attractive football lose something they deserved when the boring crossing merchants and 10-men behind the ballers can be more successful.

North London - The home of attractive football.

No way Adebayor is taking a 100,000 a week wage cut to come to Spurs... also the amount of chances we created for him, he should have had 25 goals this year and that's without being clinical.

I'm not sure us getting linked to people has much meaning dude :p Every year since I was about 5 (almost 25 years ago now) we've been linked to people from Romario, to Batistuta, to Hazard. We're Spurs, we get linked to everyone and sign none of them :p

Also, if Dawson gets back and fit, him and Kaboul is a very solid back two. We still have a decent side, I'm just worried that mentally we're going to be shot. Seeing the big players leave, knowing how close they were... it has the potential to just all go wrong. I haven't suggested we would have bought big name players just because we came 4th, but by getting into the Champs League, there was the chance of getting in again the next year. With 2 consecutive seasons that's now a massively increased revenue and also increased exposure and another step in terms of signings as well as keeping players.

Of course things could still go well this coming season, but you only have to look at how we did when Harry started messing with us tactically to have a rough idea as to what could happen when he can't just stick his obviously best XI out in the most obvious possible setup to play them in.

There's a possibility that Bale stays for one more year as well. Levy is shrewd enough to not accept anything less than top money for him considering the recently signed contract, and it wouldn't be in Bale's best interests to force a move. He may end up in a position that Modric was last summer, wherein he has to commit to another season but can leave in the summer if we don't get champions league football. Depends who has what to spend, and where they intend to spend it. I would suggest if he is going anywhere, it's probably Spain.

Exactly what I'm saying, but getting linked to people like Remy and Vertonghen... You are getting them.

Fair point about Adebayor. I'd suggest you get to that release clause on Demba Ba's contract fast.

I can see Ba really struggling this year, as I think Newcastle might. He's apparently a walking injury waiting to happen, and it's the reason no one wanted to sign him after his initial impressive spell at West Ham. Can't remember what it is, might be his knee or something, but it's apparently buggered.

Yeah we might get Remy or Vertonghen, but these are the players I refer to as being like Modric and Pavlychenko. They could settle in and be awesome, but there's a reason they haven't made moves to United or Chelsea already, and that's the fact that they could also flop badly.

----------

I'm also a bit worried about Liverpool, seeing as they will have a manager who knows what he's doing this year :p

I'm not at all worried about Liverpool this season. Maybe next season.

Vertonghen should be fine, Remy is the one I'm not sure about.

Remy could settle in well with the swift counters of the Spurs.

And I think Berbatov could be called as the Cantona of the wrong era.

----------

@thedon5: Don't forget that Chelsea already have bought Marin.

----------

And a offer for Asamoah from United has been rejected. Transfer activity for the Manchester club seems to have started.

I gasp at Berba's season, really. He did absolutely nothing wrong to be benched out like he was, even with Welbeck he should've been used more. I really really hope he stays on, no matter how unlikely. He's a class with the feet, a rare one.

Btw about Ba, that may be the case when we're talking about an average PL striker, like he was at the start of last season, but he has proven his quality. Similar age to RVP, but at a third or quarter of the price, and almost as many goals. He is quality, injuries can't hide this.

The same can be said for a lot of players, Robben and Pato being the big ones, but they are still rated highly. Ledley is another one. All can contribute a lot to a game. Definitely worth the small fee, when an unproven striker from a lower placed Bundesliga side can cost 10 m (never mind how well he's turned out).

Why not? It's real easy to forget him, he did not leave Bremen because he was an incredibly hot property, he left because he was stagnating at Bremen and was barely advancing as a player, let alone meeting his potential.

At this stage, you have to think Marin will be average at best, he is not a starting winger, he is a Kalou replacement. I still rate him higher than Kalou though. I hope to god we don't get Kalou.

He is young though, maybe in a few seasons we can start worrying about him, that is if he even survives a few seasons at Chelsea.

How was he poor at the start of last season? He came in on loan for a team that went down and scored something like 10 in 10 and nearly kept them up.

When I say he has a problem, I mean I heard it's a ticking time bomb. Stoke pulled out of signing him because they said at some point in the next few years he'll be buggered. Like not manage him and play him buggered, but never play football again buggered. It's why no big clubs went for him in January and why he was available for a free despite the goals for West Ham. Ticking time bomb was I believe the description.

Here's a little article about it - LFC_Stats, Liverpool FC Independent Website: The Truth about Demba Ba's knee problem....

Didn't know about the buggered part. I never said he was poor, he was good, but only for a short period, and not at all like this season where he was one of the driving forces behind Newcastle's stellar season.

I believe it was 7 in 12 at West Ham. Very nice, but no-one would've considered him as good then as he is now.

I did. I suggested to a mate we should sign him as he looked quality and scored goals in a crap team. He then informed me that the guy's knee was fecked :p

Interesting that Adebayor has said on twitter that he loved it at Spurs and is already working with the chairman to make it permanent. I would imagine City just want him off their wage books, so the fee could be good, whilst if he's prepared to live off 40,000 a week if he wants to continue giving half his wages to his homeland charities then maybe he will. He may just want to play football, so fair play to if he does. He's a bit older, wiser, and maturer these days after all. Might also be trying to engineer a move abroad though.

rumours of cahill to a Saudi team for 10million.

as much as i like him that would be a phenomenal bit of business for us.
