Football Transfers Thread

He can create too and pop up with goals out of nothing, both things Man Utd need. I'm starting to think he would be perfect as he seems quite likely to move very soon.

Also a player like Cabaye is great to watch, a player like him can brighten up the fans to some extent.

Wouldn't be surprised! He left Arsenal for trophies, he won't be getting one for the rest of his career if he stays at Man Utd. The difference is now that Arsenal, Juventus and Man City don't want him:lol!

United's problem is simply the mid-field. The more you look back at their august transfer shambles - that really is the root of their problem.

If they had got a solid mid-fielder or two to support Carrick & bought a top class winger & got rid of dead weight like Anderson/Nani - i'd wager they would be fine now. Because all Rooney/RVP need consistently is a good supply from mid-field given their individual brilliance.

Don't know however who they can realistically buy in January though - top players won't be attracted to United right now i reckon.

to me, it's too many of the team just don't buy into moyes as their gaffer and perhaps more worrying moyes hasn't really bought into to being their manager.

it's rare a unanimously popular manager leaves a club and is replaced by one with lesser credentials. totally unsuprising that rooney has been their best player this year, he's the only one that was glad to see the back of ferguson.

most of these man u players have won it all too, ferguson was known for motivating but that's a two way street, you need to have the players loyalty to motivate them.

that doesn't mean it will all be rosey eventually, moyes is going to need back himself to get players that trust him and let go of some pretty influential players. in a way, moyes' reign in short term will be defined by selling the right players, not buying them. the worst thing to do now would be to splash out hoping to make the CL, get in some promising players, and get ready to move some guys out in summer, less big european matches means they need a smaller squadn 2014/15 they can start re-preparing for CL football and trying to mount a league challenge after that. but he needs to get a lot right in the next two years.

and of course they can get top players. liverpool can buy pretty much anyone in europe bar that top strata at elite clubs and that's carrying on from success in 1980s. man u pay massive and only madrid and barca compete in terms of most widely supported club in the world.

You have to wonder if they even have that money any more. They are in huge debt, and surely they were relying on CL money to get their purchases done. They buy big, but they have no sugardaddy and rely on their own income to spend. Other than the top players who want to go there, I can't see many wanting to go to Man Utd. I was laughing when there were mentions of Reus going to Man Utd for example, why would he go there of all places to play dinosaur football with David Moyes? That's the calibre of player they need for the title, and they won't get it.

Also, expect the number of Man Utd fans to nosedive as the majority go and support Arsenal and Liverpool and the likes. This isn't a joke, this will actually happen, especially overseas where it's hard to find people who aren't Man Utd fans.

It's also time to move on from Carrick. He will be 33 next season, you can't build your team around someone that old. Expect the injuries to really stack up, and I think a loss in physical ability can really affect a box-to-box midfielder.

Carrick ain't a box to box Don.;)

Second strikers have usually flourished under Moyes over the past few seasons, so could that be a reason for Rooney's massive revival?

carrick gets a nosebleed when he's 10 feet away from the centre circle, he's definitely not box to box.

I think that's way over the top. I mean, you have juventus in italy, who got relegated, that's an actual crisis, not a "we need a new manager" crisis. they've just won back to back titles, they also actually built their team round a 33 year old no problems at all.

I mean, I don't really see man u plummeting that much, if moyes is this bad they just hire another manager. they are at the end of the day, just another one of the big teams. all that's happened is a long standing manager has retired, I wouldn't expect arsenal to fall off the planet when arsene goes in the next 4-5 years.

That's because other managers would actually leave a decent squad for the next manager.

So now we have three problems: A) we no longer have the pulling power of Sir Alex; B) we have had a dreadful season so far; who is going to want to come to a midtable (!!!) club in January? And C) we haven't got the ability to throw huge amounts of money around like City and Chelsea do, whether it's to get a player in the first place, or to pay their exorbitant wages.

Oh, and D) we're rapidly beginning to become like the old Everton team instead of the freely attacking force we were before. Personally, I cannot see Moyes lasting past the end of the season; this isn't just a bad start, it's almost catastrophic - to be midtable approaching Christmas!

You might have a point there.

I don't know about you, but I'm beginning to think that a lot of the players' hearts are just not in it. RvP for example came here to win trophies; he might not have said anything, but he must have been thinking 'WTF' when Sir Alex' retirement was announced.

Oh well; if we don't win anything for a bit, the next one will taste all the sweeter.

No way he'll leave so soon. Roma are unbeaten and second, and he has been one of the vital cogs in their season. Man Utd on the other hand aren't quite unbeaten or second...

Moyes still has at least till March to get the results flowing again. He has been around for a while though, he certainly won't be changing his methods I don't think.

Btw am I also the only one who thinks that buying Baines at his age maybe isn't the best idea, especially when you consider the sort of football Man Utd would play with him?

RVP is a supreme idiot is all I can say. Look at what he is missing out on at Arsenal, he is missing supply from the likes of Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere and Ramsey to play with Cleverley, Young and Valencia. We would have already won the title by now if we had him, and it's only December... He will never win another trophy with Man Utd, good message to disloyal players the world over.

:lol Alright calmndown lets not jump the gun here. When RVP left your team, it was because Arsenal were had similar problems. Wenger was seemingly looking delusional talking about 4th place being a trophy, the club wasn't spending (due to the cost of building the emirates mainly) & fans were clearly being frustrated after years of not winning anything.

So RVP after his top season (after years of injury woes) probably thought at his age, he wanted a chance to win something. And he went for the best club in ENG at the time - your boss too was crazy enough to sell him. He didn't make a hard fight vs Fergie to keep like how United made it clear they weren't going to sell Rooney or how Liverpool held firm over Suarez.

Nobody including RVP knew that SAF was going to retire last season also & for things the play off, the way it has this season so far either.

Thus its a bit of disingenuous hindsight to blast RVP like that - but ha it is indeed funny how things have changed.

Of course it is merely hindsight, but it is definitely a sign to players across Europe that things can change in a flash, the grass isn't always greener.

Anyway, he will categorically not win another trophy there, he will be gone by the end of next season anyway, by his own hand even maybe.

I guess he deserves it, you don't celebrate against your old club of eight years.
