Football Transfers Thread

They can't keep relying on Carrick forever. The guy is 32, they need to start thinking about a long term replacement.

Cabella is great but lightweight and as you say an AM. He is pretty much the last of the Montpellier gems. He could do well in the PL but would take a while to settle. He can play as a winger too which is where his main value to Man Utd would lie, they certainly need a couple of new wingers.

the bloke I like in centre midfield was that Xhaka or summit that plays for that unspellable german team (that I can really spell but this post is trying to be light-hearted and breezy)

dunno if carrick is that much of a worry yet, scholes and giggs make 32 seem like a youngster. they have a season or two to worry about him. plus it all depends how they wanna do this, if they want instant success in the wake of ferguson then it's going to mean going out and buying whoever is really good right now, which doesn't take rocket science but it does take money. if they are honestly prepared to let moyes build then no player is a priority, but should be carefully identified over the next season or two then allowed time to develop.

I just don't see where pricey kinda alrightish players fit into their strategy right now. it's either mega-bucks players (because they have big gaps) or long term investments, squad depth isn't a problem.

Yes I feel they need long-term replacements as opposed to expensive square pegs in round holes like Fellaini. They certainly need to get a replacement for Carrick who can grow into the role and not Tom tweaking Cleverley. Xhaka is one example of many, there isn't a shortage of quality young B2B midfielders. We've seen the problem with seeking a replacement only once the player actually needs to be replaced. Rio and Vidic couldn't be replaced adequately and have been affecting Man Utd with their poor defending, Scholes had to come out of retirement as they didn't have any proper CMs, Giggs is still playing, Evra is getting worse and worse and no-one's playing ahead of him... It also costs a lot to replace someone just as you sell someone else or the player retires, as we saw with van der Sar. I'd bet De Gea would've costed less if van der Sar was still to play another season, Atletico were in a great position to get a tonne of money.

Borussia Dortmund reveal Marco Reus release clause - ESPN FC

Why would they reveal this? Should've left it as just a theory.

Anyway for just ?35 m there is no chance he'll still be at Dortmund in the summer. If we fork out the money I'm confident we'll get him.

There have been rumours of us selling Walcott to Monaco for ?34 m. Would definitely sell him for Reus, offers slightly less end product but he's simply the better player.

my word. Reus is Class. If Dortmund are open to offers, Let teams have a blind guess and Dortmund might actually get more than the clause itself.

Like we did with Fellaini, :facepalm not the right scenario to relate to but Everton enjoyed cashing in more than they had on him.

The Times reckons that Kagawa for Reus could happen. Who knows though, eh? One thing's for sure - for whatever reason, Moyes doesn't like Kagawa, that much is clear.

You would need about ?15-20 as well as Kagawa.

He has a release clause, question is though, does he want to move? Dortmund is his boyhood club and they're playing brilliantly. They need him.

Reus' release clause comes into effect only in 2015, so he'll most certainly renew his current deal by then, with probably a much bigger release clause as well.

Nice to see. He defused many tensions between Mou and the players and he's great at managing top egos. Looking forward to see a lot of loans from Chelsea.

Looking at it from an objective point of view, if I were Reus I'd stay put. Obviously, from a Utd fan's point of view, we'd love to have him. ;)

Oh no, Carrick's out, right when United looked to gain some momentum. Moyes will be pressed to fill his absence (can't plead for another scholesy return). Fellaini is carrying an injury so he can't be fit week in week out.

That leaves Moyes with Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs, Young (was ok as a makeshift mid at aston villa) and Fletch yet to make a come back. Not the midfield he could rely on with a heavy schedule up ahead but this is definitely a chance to step up for Anderson and Cleverley if they get the playing time. Moyes definitely has the toughest top flight job in Europe atm.

Using Januzaj in mid could prove effective but after Fulham he might have to think twice about putting him at risk against the premier league brutes. Recalling Powell seems an distant option too, he's in fine touch at wigan but you never know.

On a positive note, it's only a month before he could make a comeback, but Carrick's vital presence in United's lineup makes him ever so important.

kagawa to move back? I'm sort of sympathising with moyes a bit now in regard to his constant benching of kagawa, he's clearly not offering as much as rooney behind RVP and out wide he does tend to just sort of drift in, it works when evra busts a gut to over lap him but he really should be trying to boss that area himself and trouble the fullback. don't see why he couldn't work in midfield, it's worth a punt, he's not some shrinking violet in the tackle even though that's a typical stereotype people put on asian players.

if it was to work out well it would underline the need a winger even more.

never knew Konoplyanka was down to his last year, I hope man U have been scouting him, purchasing him on the back of a single dazzling international display would be idiotic but there are signs that he is exactly what they are looking for.

Karel Poborsky, anyone?
