Football Transfers Thread

So Liverpool apparently paid Konoplyanka's buy out clause, who got his medical done and personal terms were all agreed, but Dnipro's owner wouldn't sign off the necessary paperwork for the deal to go through.

Anyone else find this story fishy? Surely if we had paid his buy-out clause as the fairly reliable James Pearce says, there was nothing whatsoever their owner could do to prevent him from joining us?

The more I think of it, the more I get the feeling this's merely a smokescreen cover story planted by our owners for not paying the necessary money Dnipro's owner commanded? Which again makes me think - are our owners really that cheap to unnecessarily publicly pin the blame on their owner?? fearsome tweak, nothing makes sense in this saga..

How does what actually happened matter? End result is the same.

How does it NOT matter? If we actually triggered his buy out clause as the reports suggest, then surely what their owner did was illegal and Konoplyanka should have been allowed to join Liverpool? It's glaringly obvious something isn't right about this transfer saga, and I'm merely curious about the same.

The only question that matters is whether he is a Liverpool player or not. More important people will answer that other question for us.

Obviously he's not.
Apparently, Liverpool wanted to stagger the payments, like a percentage when he completes 50 games, 3 Mn when we qualify for the CL, and rest upfront. That was unacceptable to the selling club, and they refused.
*Apparently*.

On a purely value for money basis, excluding free transfers, Atletico now boast both the signing of the summer (Villa for 2.5ME) as well as the signing of the winter (Diego 1.5ME). Take a bow, Diego Simeone.

Indeed, plus the loan coup of Argentine Sosa is another excellent addition. Seeing Barca loose to Valencia yesterday, Athletico could very well come the end of the season do a Valencia 2004 on Barca/Real this season.

Vickery: Ever Banega is Europe's loss, Argentina's gain by Tim Vickery - ESPN FC

But the mystery remains. Manchester United made an ambitious sounding-out of Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas a few months ago. Subsequent events have confirmed the view that the Old Trafford club need strengthening in that central midfield area.

Fabregas is happy where he is. Banega was not, and has some of the same skills to offer. The next few months look like being Newell's Old Boys' gain. Only time will tell if not getting Ever Banega on board might look like Manchester United?s loss.

Hmm...

I'm still in shock as to why we went for Kallstrom instead of him. He is a top quality player, I hope he goes to a top European club after this loan. Maybe he just needs some time at home.

Juve are better off without him and his huge wages. They have the much better (on current form) Tevez and Llorente starting upfront anyway.

Chelsea, yep, would be ideal for both parties, but can't see Man Utd selling him to a rival club (yes yes, I know Chelsea just sold Mata to a not-title-contending Man Utd side, but I'm going to put that away as a one off).

Monaco would suit him and his financial demands nicely as well.

Not entirely sure that is great news for Man Utd fans though.

Its great news because van persie is a c*nt of the highest order. Plays like crap and then whines about others not being good enough.
Plus it looks like his injuries have come back and also don't be blinded by his goals scored this season(which arent a lot btw), most of them were penalties/tap ins. He is nowhere near as good as he was last season, he isn't getting any younger, he is on HUGE wages, which will need to be freed for other players in the summer. Also it gives Mata a chance to play as a no.10, with Rooney moving upfront.

Loads of reasons to get rid of him lol.
