And the Telegraph...

Angel Di Maria set to move to Manchester United in potential £60 million transfer from Real Madrid - Telegraph

SS: "So advanced, in fact, are the negotiations that it has already been agreed that Di Maria will wear the number seven shirt, worn in the past by no lesser players than David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best and Bryan Robson

I thought he would. :)

Probably gonna change to a 4-3-3 then.[DOUBLEPOST=1408853847][/DOUBLEPOST]Unless LVG is dropping one of Rooney or Rvp

Di Maria is a huge signing but not enough. Their attack is the least of their worries, the pressing issues are in midfield and defence. At this stage they'd still need improvement there to be a good bet for the top four.

Di Maria hitting the ground running looks unlikely to me as well. Being South American doesn't help.

Adnan Januzaj Angel Di Maria Juan Mata Wayne Rooney Robin Van Persie

4-3-1-2 :D

That's all good, but can they fight opposition attackers? I mean United's defense is no where near their attack.

4-3-1-2 maybe also..

4312 means Mata will be dropped, which is unlikely. I'm going with a 4231:

------------RvP----------
Rooney---Mata----Di Maria
------Herrera---Carrick---

With Herrera and Carrick both out injured, a 442 at the moment probably:

--------Rooney-----RvP--------
Di Maria--Mata--Fletcher (lol)---Januzaj

That midfield will be decimated by Arteta, Wilshere and Ramsey, and that's saying something. :rolleyes
[DOUBLEPOST=1408955195][/DOUBLEPOST]Di Maria doesn't solve any problems, if anything he creates more problems, the squad is already unbalanced and the gulf in class between defense and attack is laughable, Jones, Evans, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw and Rafael as defensive options and RVP, Rooney, Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj and now Di Maria as attacking options.

It would take at least 4 windows to fix this squad in FIFA.

Strangely I think Man Utd have a lot more money than in FIFA. What happened to spending less than city  .

But Di Maria has his world class season playing behind the striker, not on the wing where he was inconsistent in previous seasons. Now that's yet another player for that spot. I anticipate a big settling in period for him, definitely not expecting big things just yet and this alone isn't getting them top four or close to it.

Well, desperate times call for desperate measures, United were always capable of this sort of spending, it was just debt that was holding them back.

I hardly saw him start behind the striker though, it was a 4-3-3 for the most part under Ancelotti last season and he started as the left sided CM, forced to play there because of the arrival of Bale, ironically enough, that's exactly the same position I saw James play in the UEFA Super Cup.

On the Balotelli transfer, I think it's a good move for Pool, especially at that price, if it fails you can easily cut your losses and call it day (similar to the proposed Remy move that failed through for whatever reason), but I think it's going to work out, just see another Sturridge to Pool situation with him, last chance at a big club and what not.
