Anichebe out too for 5 million.

if fellaini and anichebe go that's 30 million at least

mccarty for 13, barry lukaku probably about 3, so that's about 14 mil profit for the day.

Wages probably about the same i'd guess seeing as fellaini was on a lot.

hmmmmmmmm

It's a tough one, Baines is easily my favourite player (it was fellaini until the wigan fa cup debacle) but he's a little older.

So while I do agree with you if I try to think more long-term and less emotionally we're probably wrong.

I always wanted Anichebe to do well. Local lad (despite being a nigerian international) and I feel he never got a fair chance from our fans, he did have attitude problems at times, but i felt part of that was down to how nobody really warmed to him straight away. Everything was about Vaughn.

He looked like he was coming good last year, don't see much point in bringing in the older Kone and getting rid of him for less money, assuming Lukaku is our main man for this year, either.

Oh and another reason i don't think he got a fair shout from our fans is race related. Which is a shame.

Finally Marouane Fellaini has signed for MANCHESTER UNITED

I doubt whether the fans forced this, they were chanting for him to stay during Bale's presentation.

Ozil's got to be the signing of the season if he joins Arsenal.

That's Real Madrid fans for you, they want everyone and everything.

They forced the Bale move through, they made it such that no-one else could be signed. Had say Cavani or Suarez come in they would've probably been disappointed. Madrid don't have limitless money and everyone can't be happy, they had to sell someone, and it had to be Ozil.

United are done. They'll struggle to finish in CL places this season. The squad continues to age, this reminds me of the team that won the title six years ago minus Ronaldo and plus RVP, mainly because it's got a lot of the same players who are all past it. Basically RVP is their only top quality player. They have absolute turd on the wings, and their other two great players, Rooney and Kagawa have to play the same position. In any case there are still question marks as to whether either can perform, whether Rooney will still be happy to play for Man Utd and whether Kagawa will settle if he gets to play at all as he clearly didn't settle last season. Fellaini is a poor signing IMO, he is a donkey plain and simple and like Moyes I'm sure he won't do it for a big club. Carrick is good if he can perform as he did last season. The defence is the same old from six years ago with Rafael, and while De Gea has improved, he is not the best keeper in the league and still needs to improve further. He still has a really poor defensive line in front of him anyway.

Then you get to the manager who is lost. A great manager who can't seem to understand how to manage a big club.

From a financial point of view, Fellaini for ?28m is a really ordinary signing, but he'll definitely improve their starting xi though, considering he's much better than Cleverley.

United apparently also failed in their loan bid to bring Coentr?o to Old Trafford.

Only one group fans can properly complain after that window. Us poor buggers who follow Newcastle. Seriously, why was Joe Kinnear hired? "Judge me on my signings" he said. Well what a c*** you are Joe! We get Remy on loan and that is it! Rumour has it that Ashley could be looking to sell up again though which is why he didn't spend anything, so there could be a positive end to all this.....I hope

.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get Baines as well - I am sure Everton would've done business at ?40m for the two players.

That depends on who is in overall charge of deciding who to go after - if it is indeed Moyes, then I have to agree with you and would be concerned about his appointment; if Moyes is in charge, then he appears to be completely out of depth in this level of the transfer market - whoever is in charge is out of his depth, that's for sure. If however, the new 'suit' in charge is to blame, then Moyes has to be given a chance (and the new suit dispensed with ASAP).

However, having said all that, I am very concerned that Moyes said the Liverpool performance was the best we've played this season - that's exactly the sort of tripe Capello used to come out with after yet another awful England display. We were, as I said the other day, awful in defence, overrun in midfield, and lacked spark up front. Felliani will help no end with the midfield bit, that's for sure. And maybe Kagawa should now be entrusted with the creative midfielder role? So glad we kept Rooney as well - the Liverpool game shows what a gaping hole he'd leave in our team, and how much he would've strengthened Chelsea - we may as well have just handed them the title.

Something is telling me that Kagawa isn't part of Moyes' plans...

Some strange things going on last night. So, a bunch of imposters turned up at Atletico Bilbao? What happened? Were any real Utd representatives ever actually in Spain?? Have you guys ever heard anything like that before, because I sure as hell haven't.

Wish we'd gone for Ozil as well. Ozil/Felliani would be one hell of a midfield. I don't understand why we didn't even bid for Ozil. Still, happy we got Felliani and I can see the Herrara thing being looked at again in January, as it was clear we were willing to pay the release clause. I just don't get what happened there at all!

One other thing - I think it's time the transfer market closed before the major European leagues get underway - all it does is unsettle players who should be concentrating on their football for whatever team they're currently playing for.

Kagawa is so good yet Danny Welbeck will be played ahead of him for the rest of the season.

The Herrera deal is the biggest missed opportunity and quite an odd saga:

?What a mess?. Those were the words quickly doing the rounds on Twitter last night when news trickled through that the deal for Ander Herrera was called off. Newly appointed Manchester United CEO Edward Woodward was blamed thousands of times for multiple things, but one word came up more than once: ?incompetent?. It's hard not to agree with the accusations, but a question everyone wants answered is ?what actually happened??.

First of all, it's worth nothing that the ?three wise men? spotted walking in and out of the LFP (Liga de F?tbol Profesional) headquarters were not impostors, but a group of Bilbao lawyers who had dealt with Athletic Bilbao (especially in the Javi Martinez transfer) before.

Other than talks of the deal breaking down over the release clause, it appears there was an obstacle that even Bayern Munich struggled to overcome when they attempted to sign Javi Martinez.

Lartaun de Arizmendi, a journalist for Cadena COPE (the radio station who first broke the news that Manchester United were interested in Ander Herrera), has revealed in a post on his personal blog that, irregardless of the reported clause, the Herrera deal was near impossible to complete and that Bayern Munich needed external help to force through the Javi Martinez transfer.

He says that after much reflection on the Javi Martinez case, Athletic Bilbao came to realise that the player depositing the cheque on Bayern Munich's behalf (even if Athletic were against the move) wasn't enough to make the deal 100% go through. Once they had discovered this detail, Athletic used it to their advantage and told Bayern Munich that for a unilateral deal like this one to go through, the club has to agree to receive the fee in their bank account.

If Bilbao refuse to receive the money, and there was no obligation for them to do so, the will of the paying club (Bayern Munich) and the player (Javi Martinez) counted for nothing. In order to force the deal to go through, Munich contacted the Financial Council in Bilbao to tell them that this offer was being refused. The Financial Council, who would benefit from this deal going through, pressured Athletic Bilbao in accepting the money by telling them that if they did not do so, they would be required to immediately pay all the debts they owed the Financial Council and would not receive anymore help from them in the future.
It is only after this happened that Athletic Bilbao accepted the offer for Javi Martinez and have the money placed in their bank account.

Returning to the Herrera deal, it appears that there was never any panic on Athletic Bilbao's side and it was reported many times that they were confident the deal would not go through. If what Lartaun de Arizmendi has written is true, Bilbao knew that Manchester United would never have the time to get the Financial Council on their side in time for a similar process to happen.
If Bilbao refused to accept the money in their bank account, this would explain why the three Laffer lawyers were turned away at the LFP headquarters yesterday evening.

Edward Woodward (or whoever was in charge of the deal) was not aware of the loophole exploited by Bayern Munich and why would they be? Athletic Bilbao will have clearly done their best to keep it a secret in order to hold on to their best players.

As we all know, Juventus had to wait an extra year to get Fernando Llorente on a free because they hit a stumbling block similar to the one Manchester United crashed into late last night. Again, if what Lartaun writes is correct (and logically, it seems to be), Juventus would not have known of the Javi Martinez loophole and Bilbao stubbornly refused to accept the money.

Lartaun writes at the bottom of his post: ?This is what I have managed to find on the Ander Herrera/MUFC deal. Now, it is up to you to draw your own conclusions as appropriate?.

We will, Lartaun, we will. If what you say is true, perhaps Manchester United are not the only ones to blame for this deal falling through.

I see don is still being as arrogant and clueless as ever. :facepalm Ozil is an excellent signing but not enough to finish above last season's top three.

Fellaini is a good signing, United so obviously need a Keane type of player, and Fellaini is one of the best you could get for that position within the current market. The fee is a bit high, but he'll be good, considering that Moyes knows him already and United don't have anybody like him (Cleverley's the closest to him).

Herrera's case is indeed interesting, seems like Bilbao have a lot of power over transfers indeed.
