You've got to feel for some of the First class Australian Players out there who just happen to be playing in arguebly the greatest era of Australian Cricket.

This is a list of Aussie International Fringe/First-class players who would probably be very successful cricketers in any other country.

Stuart McGill ( the most obvious and talked about)

Both Hussey brothers (both ave over 50 firstclass cricket+ completely dominate in Eng county cricket)

Brett Lee (would have played around 60 tests by now for any other test team)

Simon Katich (its been talked about a lot)

Darren Leymann (At 34 has only played 27 tests- averages 56 in firstclass cricket..

Andrew Symonds (Would be a handy test player for most countries)

Martin Love -(6 tests only ave 47 + 1 century - ave over 50 in first class cricket)

And so on and so on....

I suppose the list is endless...

Have I missed any obvious ones?

Jimmy Maher
Andy Bichel
Matthew Elliott
Greg Blewitt
Ian Harvey
Brad Hodge
Dominic Thornley
Phil Jaques
Brad Williams
Nathan Bracken
Michael Bevan
Joe Dawes

Basically all of our Test and ODI rejects except Nathan Hauritz (he really sucks and besides, Daniel Cullen will be Australia's prefered Offie if he goes the way he has been) plus a few who hold together the state sides. Not sure about Brad Haddin, obviously no Gilchrist, but he probably stacks up better against other keepers.

It's about time the selectors start to bring in younger players. Yeah, Clarke's in, but thats cos hes amasing!!!!But the others are are mostly getting on a bit.

Brad Hodge and Mike Hussey seem to be breaking through the ranks getting into the test squad, Shane Watson has played a test, but didnt play in NZ due to injury. Shaun Tait seems to excel at State Cricket, and it wont be long till he breaks into the squad. David Hussey has had a pretty lean season for the Vics, so he needs to regather some of the form he's shown over the past few years if he wants to be considered. Brad Haddin is an awesome keeper, but he needs to work on his batting, he had an average of 50+ this season for NSW, so he will be Gilly's replacement when he leaves. And of course, Cameron White, much hype around him, needs to work on his bowling though, seems to turning into a player like Shahid Afridi, a batting all-rounder who can bowl.

I think this will be the Aussie Test team, after the 2007 World Cup when a good portion of the players will retire:
(Players who have already played for Australia in test matches are in bold)

Top Order
Marcus North (WA)
Phil Jaques (NSW)
Ricky Ponting (TAS, Captain)
Brad Hodge (VIC)
Middle Order
Michael Clarke (NSW)
Simon Katich (NSW)

Dominic Thornely (NSW)
Mike Hussey (WA)
Lower Order
Shane Watson (QLD)
Cameron White (VIC)
Brad Haddin (NSW, WK)
James Hopes (QLD)
Tail Order
Dan Cullen (SA)
Shaun Tait (SA)
Brett Lee (NSW)
Nathan Bracken (NSW)

Mitchell Johnson (QLD)
Michael Lewis (VIC)

As you can see, there are plenty of players who will have to fill the boots of people like:
Justin Langer
Matthew Hayden
Damien Martyn
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Jason Gillespie
Michael Kasprowicz
Glenn McGrath

I dont believe that what Australia will experience in a few years time is anything like what happened to the West Indies, as there are so many good players who arent even on the contract list, but it definitely wont be all easy going for them.

i dont think its all just about the talent not on the contact list that will keep australia from a west indies style colapse. its the set up in the cricket academy and system that will ensure new stars come through... examples - clarke, watson and tait

i personally cant wait to see tait and brett lee bowling from either end in a test match. cameron white will be the spinning option i hope. i cant see australia going for an offspinner after years of great performances by warne and mcgill. i reckon xavier doeherty (tas) is a good prospect. as for people taht have missed out. the most obvious man to never get an opportunity... jamie cox. he was stuck in a waugh, taylor, slater and even boon era.

I was under the impression Jamie Siddons was considered the unluckiest. Jamie Cox was very unlucky as well.

David Hussey would be in any other team, and would have been for a very long time now. Same with Hodge.

Rogers, Klinger, Marsh, Ronchi, Bollinger, Bracken, Nanness, Noffke etc would all play in any other international team, depending on open positions.

Indeed, I believe Dirk Nannes would be welcome in pretty much any Test or ODI team. It is a shame that he has come into such outstanding form (both in England and Australia) at the age of 32. He is decidedly very quick, awkward to face and the numbers all stack up to a talented cricketer who simply hasn't played enough for whatever reason...
First Class: 79 wickets at 24.54 with strike rate of 44.6
List A: 27 wickets at 26.70 with economy rate of 4.83
T20: 26 wickets at 15.15 with economy rate of 6.91

Yea real shame about Nannes if he was under 30 he'd probably have played.
Another is Steve Magoffin, hes been ripping up in FC for a few seasons and hes the only one from last season to continue his form into this season.

Brett Dorey, a FC average of 25 at the WACA so pretty impressive. At 2.03m he would be a handful at the next level.

Looking more at the batsmen, the 3 Victorians in Hodge, D Hussey and Rogers probably would do well.

1) Phil Jaques
2) Phillip Hughes (just becuase there is so much hype about him )
3) Brad Hodge
4) Dave Hussey
5) Shane Watson
6) Luke Ronchi
7) Ashely Noffke
8) Nathan Bracken
9) Steve Magoffin
10)Doug Bollinger
11)Shaun Tait

Thats a fair team. I reckon that team will seriously test few Int. teams going around.

I had no idea I bumped this thread. Honestly. I somehow clicked from thread to thread like Tarzan swinging from vine to vine and ended up on this thread and felt like adding a little. Sorry everyone, my mistake.
