General Cricket Discussion

to me the sachin 200 felt special there was something of a breakthrough barrier there, but then the ones followed by rohit sehwag gayle guptil today have felt somewhat repetitive and exploitative of the bowlers. The two newball rule and field restriction are the culprits, im pretty fine with the old first 15 over fielding rule those were the days. when you could see openers giving it a go to make use of the hardness of new ball despite it doing a bit, instead of stead fast seeing it off the first 30 overs drabness of present games and it gave battles ,once it was old there was spin and reverse swing. there was even contest all the time, when someone hit a six of the last few overs against spin you new it was special unlike today were everything is getting systematized.

What we have gained with this new system is
dew is less of a factor, dont have to change ball after 35 overs.
boundary dhamaka in last 15 overs [not really a good thing]

what we have lost
spinners
reverse swing
exciting batting in the first 30 overs
even battle between bat and ball at all times
power hitters who can take on the field, rather than field exploiters flourishing due to highly restricted fields for most part of the game.
The value of a boundary
less power to bowlers in terms of how much they can dictate or play a batsman's mind with field settings especially spinners . Right now you can see the field and literally say what line and length will be bowled mostly because there is no margin for error or change of lien and length to put a batsman in double mind.

So because theyre voicing their opinions agaisnt the injustice meeted out they are wrong in doing so? I mean because of this cricket will die in Bangladesh? Care to explain exactly how, please, cuz the only way I can see cricket failing in Bangladesh is if in retaliation the BCCI/ICC decides to ostracise them from the game for raising their voices and standing up for the right thing!
I can't always stay serious. I just said it because the way Bangladeshis doing it including those representing the higher levels have been showing the disbelief in referees, just for a no-ball that shouldn't have been called and they don't really care about the stuffs those have gone in their favor(originally which shouldn't have been). The people refusing the truth that they lost and then they shouting at game's governing thing, complains, makes no sense at all. After all it is clear they're hurt and not the prey of injustice; I''ll take a laugh at such dumbish people who bother not to stop speaking rubbish over the incident.

So their behavior mainly lacks the spirit that it has been against the game; quit playing and supporting it.

I can understand your stance mate but we need to put ourselves in their shoes had it happened to us we may have been acting the same way or even worse. Corruption aside at the end of it all I hope we learn from this unfortunate situation and move on, putting things in place so that it doesnt repeat. Get the third umpire involve in a no ball decision even if the batsman is given not out by the on field umpire.

Really ridiculous and un-called comments from the 'ICC-President'. Even if he made the statements in personal capacity, he ought to respect the office that he holds. Any which way, Mustafa Kamal pleaded desperately to be made the ICC President. IMO, he doesn't deserve the post.

And back to the 'no-ball', why on earth did the Bangladeshi captain not review the decision ?

Additionally, it wasn't as if that Bangladesh lost by 10 runs. They lost by a whopping margin and nowhere during the game did it seem that Banlgadesh could have overhauled India's total.

I have just read that Richie Benaud has died. Absolutely devastated. He was the voice of cricket for me growing up in the 90's. It was his voice I used spend my summer holidays listening to before the days of Sky changing commentators every two overs. Legend of the game and I'll never forget him that's for sure.

Asia Cup to be played in T20 format next year. The tournament is expected to have alternative formats (T20 & ODI) in the alternate editions from the following year. This is actually an exciting move and a good one for the Associate teams (Nepal , UAE & Afghanistan) since they too can compete in the T20 tourney. :)

^^This is good news indeed if Nepal, UAE, etc get to play the Test teams even in a T20 tournament that's not the World Cup T20.

Would be even better if some of the games were hosted in these countries, although it might not be a good option financially for the tournament
